Dragon Warrior I&II
Review by Pokejedservo
"It's only a duo of mildly improved new versions of two decent RPG games."
Ah yes the first of the ''NES DW game re-makes'' that Enix is releasing for more contemporary consoles. Its a bit of a improvement over the first two NES games but sadly there is a pretty strong emphasis on ''bit of a''. The biggest flaw is that it only feels like a small improvement over the originals. For those who love the originals will most likely be not disappointed in this game everyone should be a wee more cautious (but just a bit). However to be fair I will tell you how it does actually improve on the originals.
First of all, the characters move considerably faster here. So that alone makes the games a bit more easier and funner to play. However don't let that fool you, it does improve the experience but aside from moving a bit quicker the difference isn't that large. But still it is a bit more playable thanks to a little extra bit of speed in their walking. The Graphics are bit more polished and for those who play with the ''Super Game Boy'' for the Super NES its one of those games that have ''Special Backgrounds'' for both DW 1 AND 2 and they all look quite good. And for those who are playing DW2 and have a file on where you got either the Prince or both companions might be intrested on how there is a ''Select button'' trick on how you can re-name the Prince/Princess if you so wish. It may not intrest everyone but its certainly a nice touch IMO.
This thing cannot light a candle compared to DW3 for GBC whether you try to directly compare them or not. But still this is QUITE a competent somewhat above average little RPG game that isn't a total waste of time. So Enix has done much better, but frankly they have done MUCH worse. And frankly this is FAR from their worst. So may say I have risen up my standards (which may seem foolish especially since the first two games weren't exactly my faves) but to be honest I actually was hoping for a bit more. The chances of it being a more substantial improvement was actually not all that far-fetched if you ask me. But sadly as I've well said before its only a mild improvement. But hey its still a good game, a very flawed game but a good one nevertheless.
+ Somewhat modified games
+ Faster speed
+ Easier to play
+ Its backgrounds in the Super Game Boy accessory look good.
+ Nice ''Rename DW2 companions'' option.
- Only mildly improves upon the originals
- Those who didn't already love the originals would most likely be not all that impressed here
