Revelations: The Demon Slayer
Review by Duke Nukem
"A Pokémon clone that's not as good as DWM"
Revelations is an RPG that is very much like the recently released Dragon Warrior Monsters. Unlike DWM, you have human allies as well as Monsters, and there's no tournament. Your goal is to save the world, not be the best trainer. You can equip armor & weapons to yourself or your friends, but not the monsters. In fact, the monsters don't get any exp. You have to keep talking to new, stronger monsters in order to succeed. What's cool is that you can blend two monsters together to make a new, stronger monster. You must try to work your way through the world, saving it from the evil warlord. You, are of course a Gaia Master, so you get to train these monsters.
One of the major things that dissapointed me was the monsters themselves. Not the way they look or act, but their abilities. Since they can't gain experience, they stick with the same one or two spells with the same HP & MP. Also, it's almost impossible for you or your human allies to get monsters to join. Once you get one to join, let the monster recruit. It's a lot easier, because you don't talk for the monster. I gotta admit, this game is very cool. You choose the attacks for all 6 of your party members, and let the game take over. A number next to the monster indicates how many HP it has x10. SO for instance, say a Slime has a 1 next to it. Then it has 10 HP. There is this neat option that allows you to change your overhead world sprite from you, your friends, or a monster, depending on who leads.
Control is average. It's kinda hard to get lined up with doors, and passageways. As with most GBC games, the graphics are top notch. The game is very vibrant in colors and everything is detailed. The sound is OK, not spectacular, nor any catchy tunes. Some of the monsters are memorable, which is a good thing. However, Dragon Warrior Monsters, in some respects, is a better game. Try both out and see what you think. Although neither can light a candle to Pokémon, this game is worth checking out.
