Resident Evil Gaiden
Review by AJM Ruler
"The BEST and the FIRST portable Resident Evil!"
This is a review for Resident Evil Gaiden. When I first heard of a portable RE back in 2001, I was excited, even though I was surprised it did not come out on the GBA it actually came out for the GBC, and surprisingly, though others don't agree, this is the best!
Graphics: (10) Pushing the GBC to its limits, you can see it really is detailed for the last of the 8-bit games for the GBC. The characters are well detailed and even the zombies were. You could see shadows which amazed me could be done on the GBC. The battle system showed HIGH detailed zombies and the boss. Overall I am really impressed.
Sound: (10) The sound in RE Gaiden is nice. The standard RE music is in place with a toned down 8-bit sound to it. A creepy feel to some. What made me amazed is they were able to say the immortal words that showcase every Resident Evil, which is RESIDENT EVIL. I couldn't believe my ears.
Game Play: (10) Truly RPG-ish, when a zombie latches out to you or you aim at a zombie, a battle screen appears and you face up to 3 zombies at once. And you have to shoot at the zombies, not how you think but with a bar going back and forth and you have to have precision shooting. What I was disappointed was the fact they only had two different enemies, the zombie and the boss. Oh well, I still loved it.
Storyline (If any): (10) Some say the story SUCKS, thought it was very informative. I got to see what happens to Barry and Leon and what they have done. A lot say since there is no files, the story can't be canon and the ending said a lot of how they think it can't be canon. I loved the story and it gave me a lot of info for Leon before he hits the big console, the Gamecube, late 2004 in Resident Evil 4.
Summary: (10) I don't give many portable games perfect 10s, but I loved this game. The only thing that put it down was it was VERY short, and too few different enemies, but other than that, I found this to be the best of the last for the GBC.
