Dragon Warrior Monsters

"A True Review From A True Fan"
GRAPHICS: 8/10
At this time of GameBoy Color, this game had good graphics, it would be unfair to compare it to GBA graphics nowadays. The monster pictures are well drawn, and colorful, the backgrounds are also good, but repititive. As in, for a forest maze, all the trees are exactly the same. The spell effects is one of the best parts of the game, they very well done. Your spells get upgraded overtime, and become bigger and stronger which is fun to watch.
SOUND: 8/10
This game has overall good sound. The spells and fighting sounds are nice, but sometimes the fighting music can get boring. You can always play it with no sound, but who wants to do that? But the spell effect sounds are at perfect timing, and all sounds match when they are done.
GAMEPLAY: 10/10
The shining momment of this game that makes it stand out from all of the GBC games out there. You move your character, "Terry" around with the arrow pad. No diagonal movement, this IS a GBC game you know. But, you catch, tame, train, and fight tons of unique monsters. Sound familiar? Pokemon, etc. But this game is BETTER than Pokemon, it shines past Pokemons borders. You can 'Breed' in this game, marrying a boy and girl monster creating new monsters. You spend hours alone breeding away form the game itself!
STORY: 9/10
Let me break it down for you all. Your sister gets kidnapped, and you have to find her and save her. Sound easy? Not exactly. You go to this world where your town is in a giant tree. The king wants you to win the 'Starry Night Tournament' and beat the king of the other giant tree town. The king sais you will be granted a wish if you win the tournament. So your only choice is to win the tournament. But you are in NO shape to be fighting those insanely strong monsters, so you must train, to become a master. You do this by going into portals, at the end of each portal is a boss. There are TONS of portals, in them you must go into holes, which bring you to greater levels. For instance, the first 'hole' is 4. So you start out 1/4, then you find the whole on the map, and go to 2/4. Then 3/4, and on 4/4 is the boss. Once you beat the boss you get him most likely and return to town.
Length/Replay Value: 10/10
Collecting, training, breeding, fighting, and doing all of the side-quests takes you a long time. Even if you are an experianced RPG player, this will take you a while to complete. Very good replay value, and the length is great.
Rent OR Buy?
Definitely a buy. This is one of the best GBC games of all time, and you WILL agree if you play it. It is a must buy for the price of 10-15 dollars now you can buy it at any used gaming store.
OVERALL: 9.5/10
