Dragon Warrior Monsters
Review by Dark Seraph
"One of the best...."
Dragon Warrior Monsters has got to be one of the best GB games that I've ever played. It pretty much has the same gaming concept as Pokemon, you go out into fields completing tasks and catch monsters on your way. In a lot of ways this game is better then Pokemon but Pokemon has gots its pros too.0_0
Instead of Pokeballs you use meat, you throw meats at the monster to eat like beef jerky, pork chops, and other things. After you beat the monster depending on how nice you were to it determines whether or not the monster joins your party.
The story works out like this, a sister and her brother are left alone for the night, the sister wants to go to bed because their parents said that monsters will kidnap them if they stay up past their bedtime. o_O
The main character (you) gets up in the middle of the night and wanders around, after this happens a monster jumps out of the dresser and kidnaps your sister. After following another monster that offers to help you, you find yourself in another world and find out that your sister can be anywhere.
You then start competing in a tournament that has the reward of making a wish and it being granted, you compete in this to get your sister back. While competing in the tournament you do some services for the king and help out a few of the people you meet.
The constant dungeon areas in this game can get boring, and it can get really hard but it's still fun. Pretty much everything about the game is good. As you play along the game their are a lot of side quests like helping out people or collecting medals and some other things. I also liked the monster breeding feature, it was already ahead of Pokemon in that way. It has a really good learning curve, even if you've never played an RPG before you'll catch on to this one quick. You can trade monsters with people in the game along with your friends outside the game. You can also breed with others and battle with others too. When playing the game in battles and traveling you can only carry 3 monsters and store the rest inside a farm. That kinda sucks but it's still a great game.
-------
Sound - The sound is good. I don't remember if there were any sound FX or not though. The music was the best though, just good music while moving around makes a good RPG.
Graphics - Monsters were done really well, they put a lot of detail in some of them. The scenery was ok, not much detail but I don't care.
Control - It's an RPG, nuff said. Directional buttons to move, and select the moves you want to do. Not hard at all.
Playability - The story line will probably keep you addicted, it's also very long.
Re-playability - I still play it today. There's tons -o- monsters that I haven't caught yet so it's fun to go back and play it some more (of course I kinda rushed through it).
BOTTOM LINE: Last time I checked a used game store it was about ten dollars which is pretty good. Great game, go out and buy it. I give it a....
