"Tetris. Period."

Introduction to: Tetris DX on Gameboy Color

This is Tetris DX, one of two Tetris games on the Gameboy Color. Every gamer has played some form of Tetris, or at least seen someone play it. The game is practically as old as the term "video games." Anyway, this game was released by Nintendo 1998. It supports up to 2 players.

Gameplay

Ahh, Tetris. It's addicting gameplay continues into this game on the Gameboy Color. If you honestly don't know how it works, blocks of different shapes fall and your job is to line them up so that there is no holes in the structure. Once you fill an entire horizontal row without any holes, the row clears and you get bonus points. Simple, and extremely addictive.

You just use the D-Pad and A and B to rotate the pieces. There is different modes too. In "Marathon" you continue to play until the screen is completely filled, in "Vs." you play against a computer opponent or someone with an account on your game (the computer fills your screen based on different stats), in "40 Lines" you try to fill up 40 horizontal rows as fast you can, and in "Ultra" you have 3 minutes to get the highest score you can. Fun and easy.

Graphics

The graphics are clean and easy to follow. The game is not too bright as to hurt your eyes, so you can play on all day. Definite plus for this game.

Sound

There's only 3 different little tunes that you choose from before each level. They change slightly (in tempo) once your screen starts to fill up with blocks, the music will play faster and faster. This is a good effect, as it makes you scramble to get the pieces into rows so you don't lose. They do however, get rather annoying quickly, so after a while you'll probably consider turning the sound off.

Difficulty

The difficulty is adjustable, and therefore ranges from easy levels to extremely fast and challenging levels. That makes this game great for different ages and skill levels, newer Tetris players or younger children can play on an easier level, while veteran Tetris players looking for more of a challenge can play harder levels. The adjust-ability is a slow curve, so every skill range is hit.

Replayability

This IS Tetris after all, so you will be addicted to it. There is no end to the replayability of this game, the different modes and the need for high scores will push you onward for years.

Overall

Great Tetris game, a classic rebuilt for the Gameboy Color smoothly, a must have for Tetris fans.
