you got yourself in the middle of the asteroid belt, so you're trying to get out of it before one destroys you. You only have two weapons, a laser and hyperspace. When you hit an asteroid with the laser it breaks up into smaller pieces. If you go to hyperspace there is a chance of landing in the middle of an asteroid, or it malfunctioning and you'll destroy yourself.
