Neo-Geo Pocket Color
Review by YOUR BASE
"Don't buy those lottery tickets, save up for a NGPC instead!"
The Neo Geo Pocket Color was released around the same time as the Gameboy Color. It could do much more than the GBC but failed miserably. Several good games were released during the NGPC's lifespan, but it just wasn't enough to compete with Nintendo. Games such as Match of the Millenium: SNK vs Capcom, Sonic Pocket Adventure, Metal Slug 1 & 2, and much more are on the NGPC.
The NGPC had died a few years ago, but some company has bought all of the NGPCs and games that were sitting in SNK's warehouse and started selling them in bundles. You can get NGPCs for real cheap now. For $80 you get a new NGPC and 6 games (Pac Man, Metal Slug 1st Mission, Neo Turf Masters, King of Fighters R-2, Fatal Fury, and Samarai Showdown 2). You can only get those at EB unless you shop online, several sites carry them over the internet. There are also two 4 game expansion sets, one available at EB, but the other you have to get online. You can also get single games off of the Ebay for around $10 a piece.
There's also no region lock-out on the NGPC, so you don't have to worry what format a game is. The NGPC has a great battery life, it can play up to 40 hours on just 2 AA batteries. The screen is much easier to see than the GBA's, so it shouldn't present too much of a problem if you aren't right next to a light, but you can get a Wormlight with a battery pack off of Ebay for less than $10 if you need to. The NGPC is comfortable to hold and it is light, so you don't have to worry about it ripping your arms out of their sockets. The NGPC also has a menu if you start it up without a game, it has the time, settings for the language, daily horoscope, and world time (this allows you to see what time it is in other parts of the world).
I would suggest getting a NGPC due to it’s low prices and great games. Sure, it doesn’t have the variety of any of Nintendo’s Gameboy line, but it is just good. There are plenty of fighting games on the NGPC such as SNK vs Capcom, King of Fighters R-2, Gals’ Fighters, Fatal Fury, and others. I would highly suggest buying a NGPC if you are a hardcore fighting fan. If you aren’t too big on fighting games, there are other games you will enjoy such as Sonic Pocket Adventure, Metal Slug, Bust-A-Move, Faselei, and others. Overall, the NGPC is a cheap console which will provide you with a lot of entertainment. I would suggest getting off of your computer right now and going to your local EB to get one, unless you are busy inventing the internet or something.
