Metal Slug: 1st Mission
Review by JF7X
"Metal slug on the go"
This game is the first ever Metal Slug game that is able to go anywhere. This game is something like an introduction to the Metal Slug series (for those that never played Metal Slug 1 on the Saturn). While many of the Metal Slug games are not as hard as the Contra games, this one probably comes the closest in difficulty. This game doesn't really offer much except one extra game more to add to the series since it is on the Neogeo pocket. The story line goes like this: there is a terrorist group terrorizing the city. You as (Marco) must stop them.
The game play is very easy. All you do is go from one end of a level to the other end. There are many weapons to pick up like: rockets, machine gun and etc. Also you have a life bar now unlike the arcades where one hit kills you. The game limits you a lot since you can only be Marco and you only get to ride tanks and planes. No other fancy type of motor vehicles.
Music: The game music has mostly happy tunes to it. There is not one level where the song is gloomy.
graphics: The graphics look like as if it were from the Game Boy Color.
The controls are also very easy. The D-pad is to move. The A button is to select things or shoot (even though you can use the start button to select things). The B button is to jump.
Replay value: The game has replay value due to the fact that it has many secret levels. Also in the plane mission if you lose all your life there is parachute mini game to play in order to determine if you land on solid ground or not.
The game length is about ten or eleven stages. So it would take you about and hour or two to beat it depending if you do the mini games also.
Overall this game isn't that good of Metal Slug game. I think SNK could've done a better job if they added more things to it like more playable people
