Introduction [INTR] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Work Time Fun has you performing part-time jobs in Hell. Various demons will give you a choice of 4 different jobs to perform. Choose one and when you're done, you may have a completely different set of jobs available. When you first start out, you only have 4 jobs available. To get more variety, you'll have to earn money to spend in the vending machines. The vending machines are where you get new jobs, tools and trinkets. There are 4 types of vending machines, each with it's own cost to use. Each vending machine can give you different items and, as far as I know, each item is specific to one type of vending machine. Some items are even specific to certain vending machines, not just a particular price level. So vary which machines you frequent. This game is primarily about killing time, not about completing objectives. That said, there are awards available and it can be fun to try to collect at least one of every Trinket. You'll have all the Jobs and Tools long before you get all of the Trinkets. Furthermore, you can set objectives for yourself on any given game. Maybe you want to get to 300 pokes on 4 Fingers, or to complete Traffic Counter at least once. Much of the time, you can just strive for the top awards. But if they aren't enough, feel free to set goals of your own. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- II. Jobs, free [JBFR] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In these next sections, I'll list every job available in the game. Each job appears in the section corresponding to the vending machine type where the job can be found. This section is for the four jobs that you start the game with. Each job will have several subsections: Description, Pay scale, Tips/tactics, Awards and Comments. Rules and Controls are readily available in the game itself, so I won't bother repeating them here. Description is just a brief description of what that particular game is about. Pay Scale will detail how your paycheck is calculated for the game. Tips/Tactics, in most cases, will hold suggestions on how to maximize the paycheck. But in some cases will also hold much more detailed information about the game. Check out Buddha's Quest to see what I mean! Awards lists all Titles available in the game. Titles marked with (*1) are Titles which are listed on the d3publisher's website, but which I haven't yet gotten personally to get their exact wording. As far as I know, the list available at www.d3publisher.us/SpoilerSection.asp is complete, though not worded the same as they show up in the game. If you go to that page, scroll to the bottom to find the Title List entry for Work Time Fun. Comments is just a catch all for anything else I wish to add about the game. I will include my personal record(s) in this section. ---------------------------------------- 1) Baseball Superstars [BBSS] ---------------------------------------- A) Description You are trying to catch 1,000 balls hit by a very angry coach. Catch the balls and throw them to first base. If you miss 3 times, Game Over. If you make it to 100 catches, it will clear any misses you had to that point. It clears all misses at each 100. B) Pay Scale $0.02 per ball caught $0.20 bonus for "Nice". (Make 10 "Ok!" throws in a row.) $0.30 bonus for "Good". (Make 20 "Ok!" throws in a row.) $0.50 bonus for "Excellent". (Make 30 "Ok!" throws in a row.) $1.00 bonus for "Oh! Great!". (Make 40 "Ok!" throws in a row.) $2.00 bonus for "Genius!". (Make 50 "Ok!" throws in a row.) $3.00 bonus for "Sexy!". (Make 60 "Ok!" throws in a row.) $4.00 bonus for "Kiss Me!". (Make 70 "Ok!" throws in a row.) $5.00 bonus for "Sweet Honey!". (Make 80 "Ok!" throws in a row.) Each bonus is in addition to the previous ones. C) Tips/Tactics Stand about 1/3 of the way from 2nd base towards 3rd. Stand with the top of your head even with or just below the middle of second base. This gives you the best ability to get to any of the hits from the coach. Remember that you can press X to dive for a ball, but beware of diving too far. If you are nearly to the ball, but can't quite get to it and you dive, the top of your body will likely dive past the ball and the ball will pass through your feet. You can catch the ball with any part of your upper body, but your lower body is incapable of getting the ball. Time your dive so that your upper body intersects the path of the ball. To make a "OK" throw, tap right on the D-pad and press X at the same time or a split second after. Stringing together 10 "OK" throws in a row nets you a bonus of $0.20. The first baseman will say "Nice" on the 10th "OK" throw. If you make 20, 30, 40, etc. "OK" throws in a row, he will have something different to say each time. The sequence of comments for each 10 consecutive "OK" throws is Nice->Good->Excellent->Oh! Great!->Genius!->Sexy!->Kiss Me!-> Sweet Honey! After that, it starts over again and you'll get $0.20 bonus at 90 because the game considers it to be starting a new string with the 81st throw. Every 50 balls, something comes onto the field to distract you. Up to ball 350, it is soccer players. From 350 onward it is a UFO and aliens. These are visually distracting, but completely harmless to run into. Ignore them completely and focus on catching the ball. Occasionally the distraction will decide not to show up or may stick around longer than normal. Nothing to worry about since they're just distractions anyway. The coach usually gives warning when he's about to hit a particularly difficult ball. Actually he just gets steaming mad and then hits a hard to catch ball. These first show up after ball 22, but they become much more frequent at higher levels. There are a LOT of different "hard" balls that the coach can hit. The first to appear are high hoppers and slow dribblers. The slow dribblers will slowly roll all the way up the screen. You don't need to rush in for them, you can just wait for them to come to you. You'll need to move to catch the hoppers at a point where they bounce on the ground. Next will be pop flies. You must catch these in the air. If they hit the ground, it's a miss. Watch out for short flies that you'll need to rush in further to catch. Those first appear at about ball 97. Past 100, you'll start to get deep flies as well. Also available at higher levels are sky high pop-ups. Just get under them and wait for them to come down. There are also line drives which never hit the ground. You must get under where they will pass, then jump up to catch them. I highly recommend playing this game somewhere relatively quiet. It helps a LOT if you can hear the hits and the sound of the ball when the coach hits a pop fly. Without it, it can be nearly impossible to tell if it is short or deep. At 500 catches, the color of the field changes from orange to more of a red. At 700 catches the field changes to blue. The red isn't a big deal, but the blue can be trouble. The shadow of the ball is a LOT harder to see on the blue background. Most of my misses after 700 are because I thought I was in the right place, but was a little off because I couldn't see the shadow clearly. My best: 994 catches and a paycheck of $117.08. ---------------------------------------- 2) Pendemonium [PEND] ---------------------------------------- A) Description This is the epitome of mindless, boring, work. The game will never end on its own. It will let you keep making pens until you tell it to stop, or the PSP dies of old age. See a pen, put a cap on it, rinse, repeat. Occasionally you will have to flip the pen over before putting the cap on. B) Pay Scale $0.03 per pen with the cap on the tip. $0.00 per pen with no cap or cap on the butt end. Bonuses can be earned for doing good work. Here's 2 examples: 100 pens, 0 mistakes - $3.00 base salary, $0.60 bonus. 3,044 pens, 2 mistakes - $91.26 base salary, $60.50 bonus C) Tips/Tactics Um, this is pretty mindless and simple. If you need help with THIS game, perhaps you should rethink trying to play games at all! If you really want to "cheat", set up something which can alternately press the X and O buttons, then start the game and let it just keep putting caps on pens while you go to work/school/sleep/etc. When you come back later, you can cash out for a large paycheck. You'll probably have $0.00 in bonuses, but you'll still get $0.03 for each pen that was correctly oriented. Overall I'd guess about 80% of the pens are correctly oriented by default. So, doing 1,000 pens this way would net about 800 valid pens at $0.03 each for a paycheck of $24.00. And that's just for 1,000 pens, which can be done in 10 minutes or even less if you have the device set up nicely. If you let that run overnight for 8 hours, you'd get a paycheck of about $1,150 in the morning. Of course, you do need to come up with something that will push the buttons for you without your assistance. The largest of any game in WTF. You just have to have the patience and accuracy to sit through putting the cap onto thousands of pens with little or no mistakes. Doing 5,000 pens an hour is not too hard. You may want to kill yourself after, just for a change of pace. But it's not hard to exceed 5,000 pens per hour if you can stand the monotony. My best: 101,000 total pens 73 defective units $3,027.81 base salary $2,016.00 bonus pay $5,043.81 final paycheck! Addendum: I now have 2 PSPs (and two copies of WTF). I've got one PSP doing nothing but running WTF with Pendemonium going. I leave it plugged into the charger and turned on. Whenever I'm doing something like watching TV, I'll mindlessly make pens, ignoring whether they're correct or not. At the time of this update, I'm at about 420K pens. My target is the 1 million mark. I suspect I'm already over the 200 hour mark already and certainly will be well over it by the time I get to 1 million pens. ---------------------------------------- 3) Mushroom Xing [MUSH] ---------------------------------------- A) Description You are apparently a hippie on some strange trip. You're playing in traffic and collecting mushrooms that magically appear in the roadway. Cars are only half real. And for some reason, you're literally dying if you don't cross the road soon. This plays somewhat like Frogger. Somewhat. This is possibly the best way to get money from the initial 4 games. Pendemonium is theoretically limitless, but this is faster for short runs. And let's face it, this is much more fun. Baseball Superstars may be better once you get good at it, but this one is easier to learn quickly. B) Pay Scale $0.50 per roadway crossed. $0.15 per mushroom carried across the roadway. (You get nothing for any Mushroom you gathered on the level you died on.) C) Tips/Tactics Learn how the cars move. The first 16 levels are all unique and do not change from game to game. After level 16, the levels repeat, but in a different order. On some levels, it pays to wait. Don't feel that you must start across right away. If you are having trouble with a particular level, let the cars pass by a couple of times before starting across. On some levels, this will make crossing much easier. It is worth it to gather Mushrooms on the early levels, where the cars are relatively slow. But on later levels, it is often better to simply focus on surviving than trying to get the Mushrooms. It does you no good to get that Mushroom if you don't get it across the street. On the later levels, grab any handy Mushrooms and leave the rest. While it is better to think ahead and avoid certain situations, you CAN hover on the white line between cars and have them pass by. This requires tapping Circle at a quick, steady pace so that you "bounce" on the line without stepping on either side of it. While you're better off planning such that you don't need to do this, it is a great skill to develop. It can make some of the levels much easier if you are proficient at hovering. If you can master the patterns of the first 16 levels, then the only thing that will prevent you from going indefinitely on this game is greed and carelessness. Once you've got them mastered, it should be relatively easy to recognize when one of the tricky levels (like #16) comes up again. D) Awards Enoki Mushroom Hunter -- Title for reaching stage 5 Shimeji Mushroom Hunter -- Title for reaching stage 10 Shiitake Mushroom Hunter -- Title for reaching stage 15 Oyster Mushroom Hunter -- Title for reaching stage 20 Matsutake Mushroom Hunter -- Title for reaching stage 25 Truffle Mushroom Hunter -- Title for reaching stage 29 Mushroom Land's Mushroom Hunter -- Title for gathering more than 70 mushrooms Neighborhood Mushroom Hunter -- Title for working more than 10 times Dead Mushroom Hunter -- Title for getting hit by a car more than 50 times To and Fro Mushroom Hunter -- ~ completing the game without moving left or right Careless Mushroom Hunter -- Title for running out of time more than 20 times Super Mushroom Hunter -- ~ gathering all mushrooms and reaching stage 10 (*1) Legendary Mushroom Hunter -- Title for gathering all mushrooms and reaching stage 20 (*1) E) Comments The Super and Legendary awards only require you to get all mushrooms that actually appear. You do not have to get mushrooms that would appear if you waited for them. If you do that, then you'd have a hard time getting the mushroom that appears when the clock reaches 0! That said, there's so much luck involved in the placement of the mushroom's that I can't even reach level 10 while getting every mushroom. I really can't see ever getting to level 20 while gathering every mushroom along the way. My best: Level 70 passed and a paycheck of $73.25. That's 255 mushrooms over the 70 levels, or 3.64 per level. But 255 is an interesting number in computers and I wonder if maybe it simply stops counting at 255 or if I really did hit that number exactly. ---------------------------------------- 4) Traffic Counter [TRFC] ---------------------------------------- A) Description A bunch of creatures are going to run across the screen at various speeds. Try to count EXACTLY how many "humans" there were. Each level consists of three groups of creatures. At the end, if your count is correct you can proceed or quit. If your count is wrong, the game ends and you get nothing, regardless of how far along you were. B) Pay Scale $0.00 - Fail to have the exact correct count at the end of ANY level. $0.50 - Quit after correctly completing level 1. $1.00 - Quit after correctly completing level 2. $2.00 - Quit after correctly completing level 3. $4.00 - Quit after correctly completing level 4. $8.00 - Quit after correctly completing level 5. $16.00 - Quit after correctly completing level 6. $32.00 - Correctly complete level 7. (Game ends at this point.) C) Tips/Tactics Pay careful attention to the creatures the game considers Human. Note that the Tank is considered human. Also note the lady with octopus looking legs is also "human". Watch for babies hiding behind trucks. You may not be able to see them until late in the round. Watch for humans behind other creatures traveling at the same speed. You may never be able to see them clearly, but you should be able to see enough to recognize them. Your count will rarely be too high. So, if you are really uncertain whether you are one short or not, assume you're one short. Adding the extra one will be right more often than not. But only do this when you are really uncertain. D) Awards Fledgling Surveyor -- Title for completing level 4 in Traffic Counter Full-Fledged Surveyor -- Title for completing Traffic Counter Authorized Surveyor -- Title for completing Traffic Counter 10 times (*1) Iron Surveyor -- Title for completing Traffic Counter 100 times (*1) Leading Surveyor -- Title for completing Traffic Counter twice in a row Super-Duper Surveyor -- ~ completing Traffic Counter 5 times in a row (*1) Legendary Surveyor -- Title for completing Traffic Counter 10 times in a row(*1) E) Comments I have completed all 7 levels more than once, though not yet 10 times, and certainly not 10 times in a row! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- III. Jobs, $1.00 [JB01] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is the section for jobs you get from the $1.00 Vending Machines. ---------------------------------------- 1) Lumberjack [LJCK] ---------------------------------------- A) Description A sadistic old woman (man?) wants you to help chop some wood. They throw the wood onto the block and you split it with your axe. The catch? That old fart is sick and twisted. They'll occasionally throw bunny rabbits or other things up onto the block. Then, when you split one, well, it aint pretty. B) Pay Scale You get $0.03 for each block of wood you split before killing something non- wooden or failing to split something wooden. C) Tips/Tactics Watch out for a stuffed bear that appears starting around 50. It's about the same size as the wood and only a little lighter in color. It's easy to mistake it for a block of wood if you aren't expecting it. At around 75 the old fart gets really nasty. They'll throw up a wooden rabbit. This has the shape of the bunny rabbit, but is made of wood. This one usually catches you because you hesitate too long before realizing it's wooden. Expect it and chop it just like any other wood block. D) Awards Lumberjack Butcher -- Title for butchering 100 animals Lumberjack Boy -- Title for splitting 100 logs Lumberjack Guy -- Title for splitting 300 logs (*1) Lumberjack Pro -- Title for splitting 500 logs (*1) Lumberjack Champ -- Title for splitting 700 logs (*1) Lumberjack President -- Title for splitting 900 logs (*1) Lumberjack Legend -- Title for splitting 999 logs (*1) E) Comments My best: 123 logs chopped. If you are having trouble with this game and happen to have a second PSP, try playing Lumberjack Challenge with you controlling both PSPs. Practicing that way got me VERY used to only chopping logs, which finally allowed me to top 100 here in the single player version. Just a suggestion, your mileage may vary. ;) ---------------------------------------- 2) Chick Sorting [SORT] ---------------------------------------- A) Description You apparently work for a chicken distributor who needs to ship out baby chicks to farmers across the country. He needs females for egg laying and males for Chicken McNuggets. Send the poor dead ones to Heaven. B) Pay Scale $0.0075 (3/4 of a cent) for each normal chick correctly sorted, male of female. $0.10 volume bonus for each 100 chicks sorted (correct or not). $0.05 Heaven bonus for each dead chick sent to Heaven. $0.10 rare bonus for each rare chick correctly sorted, male or female. The accuracy bonus is roughly 10 times the volume bonus minus $0.40 to $0.55 per incorrectly sorted chick. This is for accuracies around 99% to 97%. Lower accuracies are liable to have too many missed chicks to even qualify for an accuracy bonus. It will be closer to $0.40 for 99% accuracy (and above) and around $0.55 as you get closer to 97% accuracy. Roughly $2.30 to $2.40 penalty for sending a live chick to Heaven. The amount varies some. Sending more than one live chick to Heaven can put a serious dent in your paycheck. It can completely erase your Heaven bonus, though it doesn't affect the rest of the paycheck. All fractions are rounded down by the game. C) Tips/Tactics Whatever you do, do NOT send a live chick to Heaven. The penalties are VERY stiff and can end up wiping out a lot of your paycheck. There is no penalty for sending a dead chick to the male or female box. It does affect your accuracy, but there's no extra penalty. Look for a pink bow. If it's got a pink bow, it's female. Even if it's a special that looks male, if it has a pink bow, it's female. If it has no bow, it's male (or dead for the all blue chicks). I haven't played much with partial runs. You can quit before the full 10 minute run is complete and still get paid, but I haven't verified how it affects the bonuses or even if it does. Other than that, there's not a lot to say. The game is pretty obvious. D) Awards Accurate Chick Sorter -- ~ more than 99% accuracy for 1,000 identifications Fledgling Chick Sorter -- Title for working till the end of the job 5 times Machine-Like Chick Sorter -- ~ 1,000th identification without error Legendary Chick Sorter -- Title for 1,400th identification without error Chick-on-a-Stick Sorter -- Title for finishing with more than 20 deaths Rookie Chick Sorter -- Title for working more than 50 times Veteran Chick Sorter -- Title for working more than 200 times (*1) Professional Chick Sorter -- Title for working more than 300 times (*1) Meticulous Chick Sorter -- Title for identifying all types of rare chicks (*1) E) Comments My best: $46.96 paycheck on 1474 total sorted, no mistakes, with an accuracy bonus of $31.98. I have sorted higher totals, but not with perfect accuracy. ---------------------------------------- 3) 3 Count [3CNT] ---------------------------------------- A) Description As a pro wrestler, it's all about style. You have to kick out of a pin 3 times. The closer you kick out to the 3 count, the higher your pay. But if you kick too late, and the referee gets to 3, you lose and get $0.00. B) Pay Scale $0.00 for failing to kick out in time on any of the 3 attempts. This nullifies any other payments you may have earned. $0.00 for kicking out between 0.01 and 2.00. $0.10 for kicking out between 2.01 and 2.50. $0.20 for kicking out between 2.51 and 2.80. $0.30 for kicking out between 2.81 and 2.90. $0.50 for kicking out between 2.91 and 2.98. $2.00 for kicking out at either 2.22 or 2.77. This is instead of the normal payout for their respective ranges. $3.00 for kicking out at exactly 2.99. C) Tips/Tactics You can get an award and bonus money for kicking out exactly at 2.22. Another bonus and award is available for kicking out at exactly 2.77. Otherwise, just try to get the rhythm and kick as near to 2.99 as you can. The closer you are, the more money you get. You can also tell how well you did by the number of photographers that come out. If people are throwing things at you instead, you're not doing too well. Other than trying for the award, you are better off aiming for 2.99 than for either 2.22 or 2.77. If you get 2.22 or 2.77 exactly, you get good pay, but 2.99 pays better. Furthermore, missing and getting 2.96 pays a lot better than missing and getting 2.19. Just don't go over. B) Pay Scale $0.50 for each of the 3 races you win. $3.50 bonus for winning all 3 races. C) Tips/Tactics Watch the trees in the background. Not the colorful plants, but the black trees that flash by. You may start in the middle of the pattern, but the red zone appears after a sequence of 2-1-3-1 trees. You can use that to know when to expect the red zone. The pattern is actually much longer, but there's only one group of exactly 2 trees anywhere in the pattern and only one group of exactly 3 anywhere, so just looking for the 2-1-3-1 pattern should give you plenty of warning that the red zone is coming. Likewise, a crushing defeat is losing all 3 races. ---------------------------------------- 5) Four Fingers [4FGR] ---------------------------------------- A) Description Mumblety-peg. Most of us have played this in one form or another as kids, though usually with a stick or something which, while it hurts to miss, isn't likely to do permanent or even serious damage. B) Pay Scale $0.01 for each poke that doesn't stab your hand. $0.10 for each successful pass across and back over your hand. C) Tips/Tactics First, you MUST stab at least once between each finger and on each end. You can stab more than once, but if you try to skip a gap, you will automatically stab into the finger on the far side of the gap, ending the game. You can earn a few extra cents early on by making multiple stabs per gap, but I don't recommend doing so. Personally, the extra few cents isn't worth losing track of where the game is at. I mean knowing when the game is going to slow down. The game slowly builds up speed, getting faster and faster until you reach gap #100. At that point, it slows down... a lot. If you aren't expecting it, you will very likely stab your hand when the speed suddenly changes. If you took a lot of extra stabs at the start, you won't know for sure when the slow down is coming. The game follows the same basic pattern every 100 gaps. It will build up speed until it gets to the 100th gap, then slow down again. Occasionally, your paycheck will be short $0.10 as if you had completed one less pass than you really did. I don't know what causes this and it doesn't happen all the time. Still, it does happen often enough and always seems to be exactly $0.10 off. There is an Alien hand which will be used on rare occasions. Playing against that hand awards higher paychecks, though I haven't gotten it often enough to work out whether it is a per stab increase or just a flat bonus for that hand. The alien hand only seems to appear when playing multiple times, never as the first hand you get when picking the game. B) Pay Scale $0.00 for any incorrect total. $0.40 for correct totals of the following types: Army Ants, Piranha, Cats $0.80 for: Anacondas, King Cobra, Giraffe, Gazelle, Puma, Kiwi, Zebra $1.20 for: Lions, African Elephant, Tiger, Stag Beetle, Kangaroo $1.60 for: Pandas, Koalas, Wildcats $3.00 for: Bigfoot $3.50 for: El Chupacabra C) Tips/Tactics The game claims extinction for a miss, but the exact same animal that supposedly just went extinct can be the target of the very next game. Pretty impressive comeback for something that was extinct a moment ago! Likewise, the total you get one round, plus the supposed growth is meaningless. The next time you have to count that same type will be a completely random total with no connection to the previous total. You have unlimited time, so if you need to, you can write down the numbers as they give them to you, then total them up afterwards. That's cheating if you ask me, but who's to know besides you? Be careful about numbers like sixteen or sixty. They sound almost exactly the same coming out of the game. Most of the time that I miss is because I guessed wrong about which number they said. It is usually a number in the teens, but not always. If you have to guess, most of the time going with the teens will be the correct number. Consecutive correct answers will lead to higher totals being given. This seems to be a combination of your current overall streak, your current streak with the current animal and a random factor. Occasionally you'll get a ridiculously easy game during a long winning streak. But overall, the longer your winning streak is, the larger the numbers they will throw at you. If you have the headphones for the PSP, use them. Each level is 4 rounds. $1.00 additional bonus for completing all 8 levels. C) Tips/Tactics If you suck at this type of game, you can always cheat by writing the sequence down on paper as you go. Use whatever method you want, just add a symbol or letter for each new part of the pattern. That method works, but you'll be better served in the long run by playing the game honestly. Your memory will improve with practice. You will lose if you pause more than 2 seconds while entering the pattern. You earn the Jawbreaker award for earning $100.00 and I assume that Legend is for $500.00. The really odd thing is that the email you get from wtfnet also lists the Title incorrectly, though the Award does show correctly in the Titles list. The first time I ever played this, I completed it. Granted, I don't complete it every time. But I did it fully the first time I ever tried, without resorting to paper or any other tricks. I've fully completed it many times since. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IV. Jobs, $5.00 [JB05] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is the section for jobs you get from the $5.00 Vending Machines. ---------------------------------------- 1) Private Number [PNUM] ---------------------------------------- A) Description This is similar to the game Mastermind. You try to guess the last 4 digits of the girl's phone number. She tells you how many numbers you got right and how many of them are also in the correct spot. B) Pay Scale The chart below lists your paycheck according to who the girl is and how many guesses it took you to get her number correct. Several of the girls will pay beyond 9 guesses, but you shouldn't ever need to go there. Take a logic class if you can't solve any of these in 9 or fewer guesses! C) Tips/Tactics I'm not going to teach you a course in Logic. If you can't figure this game out, try reading a textbook on logic. I will however give a couple of tips. Unlike Mastermind, which can have repeats, there are never any repeats within the number in this game. You can use that info to your advantage. Pay attention to the bio of the girl when you start the game, the bio tells you exactly what range the digits of her phone number can be in. I've also listed them in the pay scale section above. So, for example, Emi Kitamura says 1-4. That means the digits of her number will be 1, 2, 3 and 4 in some order. You can still guess other numbers, but they will never be correct. Use dead numbers as fillers when you want/need to identify a portion of the number without possibly confusing things with the other digits. If you want to know if it starts with 1-2-X-X, put in dead numbers for the X's rather than numbers which might confuse your results. You'll rarely need anything like this if you're really good at logic, but it can help those that are just learning or just want to make it easier even if it might cost them some money due to extra guesses. It makes no difference whether or not you call her. Regardless of what you hear or even whether you call, you get paid the same. One of the girls usually only appears at night and another only on the weekend, though I was playing on the weekend, at night when I built the chart, so I'm not currently sure which is which. But, if you're trying for a certain girl and she just isn't appearing, it may be because you need to play at night or on the weekend to get her. But since that's pure luck and not skill, why bother to track it? ---------------------------------------- 2) Demonstration Roundup [RDUP] ---------------------------------------- A) Description Someone is going to hold a big, anti-police rally in the park. You have seven minutes to visit the nearby buildings and gather people to join the rally as protesters. The cops don't like this and will try to arrest you and/or disperse your line of protesters. Protesters delivered to the park are safe. B) Pay Scale $0.01 for each protester delivered to the park. $0.02 times the number of protesters in your longest, safely delivered line. C) Tips/Tactics There is only one map, but there are different patterns that the police may take. Try them out to find out which one works best for you, then simply get caught immediately and start over if you don't like the pattern. I prefer the pattern that starts with a solid line of blue cops on both the left and right of where you start. This pattern has mostly fixed position cops with only a few roving patrols. Playing against the pattern described above, start by working your way down and left. Ignore the yellow buildings near the middle and proceed straight to the orange and red buildings near the bottom of the map. Gather protesters and work your way to the bottom left corner. Work your way up the left side, then across the top. Finally work down the right side. When your time is down to about 25 seconds, head to the middle to deliver your protesters. It doesn't matter if the line of protesters is still entering the park as time expires. It only matters that you get them started entering the park before time expires. Watch out for the roving patrols. Some games they'll completely avoid you. Others, they'll seem to be homing right in on you. They can also use the tiny alleys between some buildings to get you or your line of protesters. When pulling people from a house, don't stand still. Wiggle back and forth. Because the line behind you follows the EXACT same path, they too will have to wiggle past that house. This has the effect of pulling the rear of the line closer to you and leaving them less exposed while you wait for a building to empty out. Knock them out of the air. Each type of item has a small window of time where you can smash it. Too early or too late and it's Game Over. B) Pay Scale Your paycheck is shown as you progress, figuring out what each item is worth is simplicity itself. Why do you need me to tell you what each is worth? Can't you do simple addition/subtraction? $0.05 per coffee mug $2.00 per cash register $0.10 per tiki statue $0.20 per microwave oven! $0.10 per aquamarine vase $0.10 per bag of coffee beans $0.30 per computer case $1.00 per giant mask $2.00 per statue scraping on its head. $3.00 per golden statue $4.00 per charging bull $?.?? per missile C) Tips/Tactics Decide for yourself whether visual or audio based timing works best for you. Personally, I prefer visual. I tend to turn the sound off completely. Learn the patterns so you know what to expect next. There are always the same number of objects on a given level (-dan). What the objects are can vary as you get to the higher levels, but they still will have a limited number of possibilities. And some levels will always have the same final object. Knowing what to expect at any given point can help, a lot. Below is a list of the objects to expect on each level/dan. Level 1 - 7 coffee mugs. Level 2 - 4 coffee mugs, giant mask. Level 3 - 7 random coffee mugs and/or tiki statues, giant mask. Level 4 - 7 same as level 3 plus microwaves, scraping statue. Level 5 - 7 same as level 4 plus the vase, scraping statue. Level 6 - 7 same as level 5, golden statue. Level 7 - 7 same as level 5 plus coffee bags and computer cases, golden statue. Level 8 - 18 same as level 7, charging bull Level 9 - giant mask, scraping statue, golden statue, charging bull, missile Note that on levels 2 through 8 the cash register may replace the last of the normal objects. I once had the cash register show up on Dans 2-6. Five levels in a row! Typically, you'll get 2 or 3 total if you complete the game. The cash register can also replace the Charging Bull on level 9. I had it happen! Level 8 starts with 4 random objects. Has rapid fire coffee bean bags from 5 through 14 with a tiki statue immediately following at number 15. It then finishes up with 3 more random objects before the charging bull appears. Here is a list of the various objects and the timing I use to beat them: Coffee mug - Hit X just as the front of the mug passes the start of the largest mushroom in the background. Cash register - Hit X as the cash register passes the middle of the mushroom. Technically, this is a robot, not a cash register, but I'm going to keep calling it a cash register because that's what it looks like to me. ;-) Tiki statue - Hit X as the tiki statue reaches the end of the mushroom. Microwave - Hit X as the microwave passes the middle of the mushroom, a hair later than for the cash register. Aquamarine colored vase - Hit X just as the vase reaches the mushroom. Almost the same timing as the coffee mug, just a hair earlier. Pay attention as this item can be very difficult to see. It almost blends into the background. I can't even say for certain that it is a vase. Bag of coffee beans - Hit X early, before the bag even reaches the mushroom. This thing moves very fast. Hit X as the bag is in the middle of the bush at the right edge of the counter. If you wait for it to reach the counter, you are too late. Computer case - Hit X as this reaches the beginning of the mushroom. Use the same timing as for the coffee mug. Giant mask - Hit X as the nose of the mask reaches the second vertical line past the mushroom. Count starting with the line that is immediately past the mushroom. Inverted large statue - Hit X as the scraping statue reaches the third vertical line past the mushroom. Golden statue - Hit X as the front of the statue reaches the middle of the mushroom. Charging bull - Hit X as the front of his head reaches the left edge of the mushroom. He moves faster than the tiki statue, but you hit him in the neck, not the forehead. Missile - Not sure yet, but it's slow. I suspect it may be even slower than the tiki statue. But only having faced it once so far, I don't know for sure yet. D) Awards Karate Assistant Instructor -- Title for completing 3 stages Karate Grand Master -- Title for completing 6 stages Karate Leader -- Title for completing the game twice (*1) Bold Karate Fighter -- Title for completing the game with the male fighter (*1) Sexy Karate Fighter -- Title for completing the game with the female fighter(*1) Legendary Karate Fighter -- Title for completing the game 10 times (*1) Earth Defense Karate Fighter -- ~ destroying a missile more than 10 times (*1) Devastating View Karate Fighter -- Title for losing against the "cow" more than 10 times (*1) E) Comments This game can be both highly addictive and highly frustrating. I find that I do a lot better by turning the sound off. That doesn't work for my friend though, so experiment for yourself. There's no pay or timing difference between the guy or girl. Only the graphics are different. My best: $33.65 on a loss to the Charging Bull on 9 Dan. I got a higher paycheck the one time I beat that bull, but I didn't note the paycheck. I'm fairly sure it was $36 and change. ---------------------------------------- 4) Ready to Order [REDY] ---------------------------------------- A) Description Have you ever wondered what kind of hell it is to be a waitress at Denny's when a load of teenagers comes in with enough self-absorption to drown a mule? They fire off their order at you all at once and expect you to get everything right without asking any questions. Ever wondered? Well, wonder no more. Hell has arrived, and it wants a snack. B) Pay Scale $0.00 for even a single mistake. The minimum I've gotten from a success is $3.00. The most is $10.00. Your paycheck for a correct order is apparently based on which customers are at the table. Each customer has an individual value, though I haven't figured out how much each is worth yet (and likely will never even try). C) Tips/Tactics Practice practice practice. That's all I can tell you. Well, that and memorize where every item on the menu is located. The customers tend to order from the first page, then the second, and finally from the last. The problem is that they don't all go at the same speeds. So, while one of them is already on page 3, another might still be ordering from page 1. Beware of Silly Squid... There's two Silly Squid items on the menu and the customers will often pause after saying Silly Squid and before they say Rice or Shake. Often there'll even be another customer ordering something in between! When a customer says to cancel something, they mean THEIR last item ordered, not necessarily the last item that was ordered. If there have been 3 items ordered by other customers since their last item, you'll probably have a very hard time remembering just what it was they ordered. On top of that, several of the customers have very similar sounding voices, so it can be really tough to know what item is supposed to be scratched. Practice, practice, practice. A table of 6 that includes the pink haired girl and the old lady along with 4 of the male patrons can be worth $10.00 and is usually a pretty nasty order to take as they cancel things after three others have ordered. I've managed to get the order correct for them twice now for the full $10.00 paycheck. D) Awards Busboy at Family Restaurant -- Title for collecting over $50.00 Waiter at Family Restaurant -- Title for collecting over $100.00 Asst. Manager of Family Restaurant -- Title for collecting over $500.00 (*1) Manager of Family Restaurant -- Title for collecting over $1,000.00 (*1) Family Restaurant Legend -- Title for taking 50 perfect orders in a row (*1) Big Burden in Family Restaurant -- Title for failing 100 times (*1) E) Comments My best: 10 perfect orders in a row. ---------------------------------------- 5) Hell Pottery [PTRY] ---------------------------------------- A) Description You're trying to bake a pot in the kiln. You have to keep the temperature of the kiln as close to the "optimal" temperature as possible by feeding various objects into the fire. B) Pay Scale A normal pay scale for this is impossible. You can complete the game and get anywhere from $0.00 to $20.00 or more, depending on how well you managed the temperature of the kiln. You can earn bonuses which can push the value to $200 and beyond. C) Tips/Tactics The first thing to realize is that the actual temperature of the kiln is not relevant. What you need to monitor is the yellow plus/minus number beside the temperature. This tells you how close the current temp is to the optimal temp. I am going to refer to this yellow indicator as the marker henceforth. (Though technically, it is the temp of the vase that matters. So, brief spikes in the temperature of the oven won't hurt if you don't leave the temp off long enough for the vase's temperature to adjust as well.) Try to keep the temperature within 30 degrees of the optimal. In other words, try to keep the marker no larger than 30 in either direction. If you are doing well (and haven't already ruined the vase), you'll get a ping and a "good" message. Sending the temperature way out of the optimal range can ruin the vase and result in a $0.00 paycheck, even if 90% of the time you were spot on. Here's some tips on how/when to use most of the items. These are just guidelines. You will need to adjust according to how much the optimal line is climbing or descending: Small logs - Toss on a small log as the marker is decreasing and passing -6. If there is a large decline in the pattern, try to use small logs and toss them on as the marker is passing -14 instead. This is if you don't have any ashes. Medium logs - Toss these on as the marker is passing -12. They take longer than the small logs to catch, but they burn longer as well. Tossing them on at -12 will allow them to catch at about -27. They'll then burn all the way back to over +20. If you toss them on too soon, you'll climb over +30 on the marker. Large logs - Try to avoid using these if at all possible. They're only actually useful for long steady climbs that are fairly steep. Otherwise, they burn for so long that you'll end up climbing well over +30. Also, note that they take even longer to catch than medium logs do. Ashes - Use these when you need to drop the temperature quickly. They'll take a +40 marker and send it solidly negative in a few seconds. Generally, you don't want to use these unless you have to or unless the pattern takes a huge negative dip. Even then, be careful when using ashes because they'll drop the temp even faster than the steepest dive in the pattern. Tumbleweeds and Oil - These are great for quickly adjusting the temperature upwards if you've had to dump on some ashes. Under normal conditions, you can use these like small logs. They have no duration, but they jump the temperature by about 30 degrees. So, as the marker declines past -10, toss one of these on and the marker will jump to about +20. It will still be declining though. Spiders, Lizards, Boots and Mushrooms - These are all decorations. They have little effect on the marker. They might have a small positive impact on the marker, but not much of one. Ok, that's the "normal" way to play. But you don't get any bonuses just for making a vase with no flair, no matter how well you managed the temperature. Instead, use the wood to manage the temperature and save the decorations. Once you have 3 decorations available, throw all three on at the same time. You have to be quick or it won't count. But if you throw three non-wood items on at the same time, you put decorations onto the vase and earn a bonus. The bonus is generally about $10 and can be earned multiple times. If you really want to do well, save up and throw three of the SAME decorations on at once. You'll cause the color of the Vase to change. For some real aesthetics, toss four of the same item on at once (or 3 of the same item at 2 different times). You'll cause the shape of the vase to become something else entirely. Having played this a ton, and after conferring with my friend, Chris, we're unsure of the exact pay criteria. It is wildly inconsistent. The only thing I can suggest is, do as many combos as possible, keep the temp between plus or minus 30 and finish as close to even as possible. I'm at a complete loss as to how to make such valuable pots. ---------------------------------------- 6) The Net [TNET] ---------------------------------------- A) Description This is a great way to earn money while actually doing chores or other activities that don't require the PSP. A fisherman will tell you to come back at a certain time. There are three durations he will make you wait. Short durations are usually about 10 minutes. Medium about 30 minutes. Long is usually anywhere from 2 to 5 hours, though times exceeding 9 hours have been reported. B) Pay Scale You get roughly $1.00 for each minute you have to wait. The amount increases slightly with durations longer than 1 hour. But there is a LOT of randomness in this game's payout. Sometimes you'll earn closer to $2.00 per minute and others you'll hit 2 ghost ships in one run, which will cripple your paycheck. If there is a rainout, you will get a few pennies for your time. C) Tips/Tactics "Winning" is simplicity itself. Simply rotate the stick to pull in the net. Once the net is drug in, a tally of the things found inside will be made and you will be given a share, 10% of the total value. Since the items found are random, your paycheck will be a random amount as well, but will usually be close to the amounts listed in section B. Be sure to set a timer or alarm clock for the medium or long duration waits. It really sucks to wait 4 hours, then miss it because you came back a minute too late. You can't turn off the PSP or do anything else on it while you wait. You can let it go idle and shut down the screen, but don't actually put it into sleep mode via the switch. Which is why I suggest "playing" this game while doing chores or anything else. The long duration waits usually appear at night. You won't get them very often, if at all, during the day. Keep an eye out for "Zeus". He only shows up in the wee hours of the morning, but he is well worth it. Paychecks exceeding $750.00 are possible from him. Note that "Zeus" is how Chris describes him. To me, he just looks like an old man with white hair and a short white beard in a slightly tattered robe. He doesn't look very godlike to me. Rainouts may be tied to how many times you've played. Chris reports that you will get a rainout for your second attempt in the same day. I haven't confirmed this yet. A positive wind is blowing towards the Troll. The first number in each entry indicates how many notches of elevation you will need. 6 is the maximum available. For all Short and Medium height trolls, I calculated the highest possible elevation that could still hit the apple. I did this to give the best possibilities of getting over a troll blocking the target Troll and hitting the apple. Note however that in some cases it is impossible to hit the apple when there is a blocking troll. Some targets are literally impossible to hit, regardless of your aim. You simply have to knock down the blocking Troll, then go after the apple. It sucks, but that's the way it is. The second letter/number combination indicates how much power is needed. The letter indicates which color and the number indicates how far into that color is needed. W=White, Y=Yellow, O=Orange and R=Red. For example, O1 means you need to launch the arrow precisely at the first tick into the Orange while R5 means you need to launch with all 5 ticks of the Red. A Tall Troll at 16 meters with a wind of 2 or 3 against you should not be possible to hit, but the game cheats and gives the arrow the extra power needed to reach them. You must launch a full power shot at elevation 4 in order to get that boost though. The same is true for Tall at 15 with 3 against and Medium at 16 with 3 against. When there is a blocking Troll that cannot be avoided, be sure to knock the Troll down with a shot that would have hit the apple. Doing that, I've never had another blocking Troll come up that couldn't be avoided. Knocking the Troll down with any other shot occasionally has resulted in another blocking Troll that couldn't be avoided appearing. At short ranges, it is possible to hit the apple with a variety of powers if you overpower and hit the apple on the upwards flight of the arrow. Feel free to try to find out viable ranges if you want. I built the chart only looking for values that worked on the downward flight of the arrow. If you look at the chart, you will see that the height of the Troll is irrelevant at that distance. They all use the exact same power at an elevation of 6. Some of the Tall Troll entries show that either 4 or 5 elevation can be used. Specifically, distances of 10 or 12 meters can use either 4 or 5 elevation. Just adjust by one power for each meter of wind if you prefer to use one elevation over another. I'm unsure whether you can do this with 14 and/or 15 as well, but I don't believe so. It's probably best to just use the chart. Using the chart is never wrong. An interesting thing happens with Short Trolls at distances of 13 or 16 meters. At those distances, use the chart where it says to use an elevation of 3. Don't deviate even if there is a Blocking Troll. Elevations of 4 or higher absolutely cannot hit the apple. Your shot will either be just short, or just long if you try at elevations 4 or 5 with what seems like it should be the proper power. A Short Troll with a -3 wind at 14 meters is an unknown. I believe it will be a 4 elevation with Red 3 power, but have not confirmed this yet. It is the only shot of which I am unsure. My best: 16 consecutive apple hits. ---------------------------------------- 8) Mad Dribblin [DRBL] ---------------------------------------- A) Description Remember Hacky-Sack? Keep a soccer ball in the air by bouncing it repeatedly off of various parts of your body. Play enough and you can get oversized tennis balls, basketballs and other types of balls to bounce. B) Pay Scale Your paycheck is displayed while you play. You get $0.01 for each bounce, plus a bonus for any moves you complete successfully. C) Tips/Tactics This game is pretty obvious. Just practice to get the timing down, then start trying out the "special" moves. The ball will bounce off the side of the screen. It won't disappear or "wrap" around to the opposite side. He cheats the first time. After that, reports by RichPlaystation are that he will throw whatever his lowest percentage is. I'm unable to confirm whether that is the case or if he throws whatever would beat his highest percentage. Either way, expect that sort of behavior from him and make your throw accordingly when you reach him again after your first loss to him. I do know for a fact that he doesn't always throw the lowest percentage. He was at 50%-50%-0% and threw Rock at me, not Paper. The next time I faced him, with 66%-33%-0% he did throw Paper. Earlier, during the second time I faced him, with 0%-100%-0%, he threw Rock. The two letter combinations after the World Championship players indicate the results I got from those players during a recent string of play. The first letter indicates whether they threw (r)ock, (s)cissors or (p)aper. The second letter is whether I (w)on, (l)ost or (d)rew that throw against them. These were all consecutive for the given player. They obviously span multiple games, and they don't represent every throw I ever made against them, but there are no missing results in the middle of any sequence. Big Z, the smiling killer, won't show you your percentages. He has thrown each type, but strongly prefers Scissors. I'd guess it to be about 80% of the time that he throws scissors with 10% each for Rock and Paper. Note that the percentages shown don't include the results of my last battle with that player. So, for example, Dorothy Sinclaire shows 0% for Paper, but when I face her next, she'll have a percentage there since Paper is what she threw in our last battle. Percentages were taken from around the 150th tournament. The Asia players all have around 50 battles worth of data for their percentages. The World Champ players vary a lot, but are taken from only about 10 to 15 battles for many of them. This means that there is still plenty of room for their percentages to be off due to unlucky streaks that aren't indicative of their normal percentages. C) Tips/Tactics You only earn a paycheck at the halfway point or by reaching the end. Any score you earn during the second half won't add to your paycheck unless you reach the Elf King. The best thing to do is to memorize the path so that you know what to expect and when. There are some things which are random, like the leaves and ghosts, but the obstacles on the ground always appear in the same places. Learn where the medkits are and how to safely get them. The bridges with holes in the middle can be crossed on either the right or left edges, though it is easier on the right. The first half can be done while running full tilt constantly. You CAN get the medkits even while running full tilt. Not all coins can be gotten while running full tilt, but if you plan ahead, you can earn $9.80 for a "perfect" run over the first half. If you slow down (barely), you can get 1 more coin while still getting the full speed bonus for a total of $9.85. I've tried and tried, but I can't get 2 of the coins you have to slow slightly for and still manage the full speed bonus. So I believe that $9.85 is the maximum possible for the first half of the game. Also, if you pass the dog poo, when you come back to it, it will be squashed by a shoe and you can't pick it up anymore. Why you'd want to in the first place is your own problem. The game only remembers an area covering 12 screens wide/high. If you go more than 12 screens in any one direction, the row/column 13 back will be forgotten. It is well worth it to slow down when you find a sand trap. You will occasionally find what looks like a smooth golf ball. If you overshoot it and come back, you'll have a smashed egg which is worth $0.00. If you stop and pick it up, without overshooting and squashing it, you'll find a sea turtle egg that is worth $10.00! These are only ever found in the sand though. My Best: $55.01 I had 3 Sea Turtle Eggs and a Star Ball during that run. Otherwise, I wouldn't waste that much time on this game. ---------------------------------------- 2) Bouncer Bash [BASH] ---------------------------------------- A) Description Protect the band from raving sociopaths masquerading as fans. Rescue the occasional damsel in distress. You lose if the sociopathic murderers kill all 3 band members. B) Pay Scale Your paycheck is equal to your score (shown in the lower left during the game) divided by 1,000. For example, a score of 2,427 will net $2.42. C) Tips/Tactics You can't throw rescued damsels to knock out sociopaths, but rescue them anyway. Each one you rescue and throw off screen scores 500 points, or $0.50. Each concert consists of 5 waves of fans. If you survive all 5 waves, the next band comes out and the game continues. The new band will have all three members even if you lost one or two members of the previous band. Try to knock off multiple sociopaths with a single toss. You score nothing for taking them out one at a time. But multiple hits earn up to 80 points per hit. The soda can is your friend. It turns your throws for the next few seconds into looping tosses which can wipe out a wide swath of the maniacs. Reports say that there are a total of 3 bands that will play. The first has a high stage, which the sociopaths take a while to climb onto. The second is lower and the sociopaths get onto it quicker. The third is reportedly so low that it barely serves as a speed bump for the maniacs. Having only gotten to the second band myself, I can't personally confirm the reports of the third band or that the game ends afterwards, though I have no reason to doubt the accuracy of this info. The first band is AC/DShe. Band 2 is Judo Priest. The last band is Pistols. D) Awards Rubber Arm Security Guard -- Title for convoying 10 fans at once Expert Security Guard -- Title for messing up a total of 3,000 crazy fans Well-Known Security Guard -- ~ messing up a total of 7,000 crazy fans (*1) Security Guard Legend -- Title for messing up a total of 10,000 crazy fans (*1) Gentle Security Guard -- Title for saving all the gals in one game E) Comments My best: $15.77 (Not that great, but I'm not particularly fond of this game.) ---------------------------------------- 3) Pollinator [POLL] ---------------------------------------- A) Description A version of Lunar Lander. Land your "rock" (it's really a plant seed, I think) on one of the platforms with a value before you crash or run out of fuel. B) Pay Scale Your pay is shown on the platform you land on, in cents. You can get a bonus of twice the normal pay by landing softly in the center of the platform with little side to side drift. Some platforms the "center" is actually a little to one side or the other. You'll have to experiment to find each one. C) Tips/Tactics This is a pretty obvious game. Not sure what kind of tips you want. One thing that may help... STOP HOLDING THE THRUSTER DOWN! Tap X rapidly rather than using long, sustained bursts. You'll get much better control that way. Sometimes a long burn is needed, but when moving in tight places, stutter thrust is much better. If you play enough, the game will eventually give you different maps. It looks like the screens may become available based on total earnings, regardless of how many mistakes you had on getting there. There are 4 different maps. The second map is a series of vertical shafts with most of the landing areas on the tops of the "stems" and most of the starting places near the bottom of the map. The third map is a spiky variant of the first map. The fourth map looks like a tree with spirals on either side of the trunk. This is another game where using replay is necessary. If you only ever play the game once and then exit each time, you may never reach the second layout no matter how much you play. You try to guess the last 4 digits of the girl's phone number. She tells you how many numbers you got right and how many of them are also in the correct spot. B) Pay Scale The chart below lists your paycheck according to who the girl is and how many guesses it took you to get her number correct. Several of the girls will pay beyond 9 guesses, but you shouldn't ever need to go there. Take a logic class if you can't solve any of these in 9 or fewer guesses! C) Tips/Tactics I'm not going to teach you a course in Logic. If you can't figure this game out, try reading a textbook on logic. I will however give a couple of tips. Unlike Mastermind, which can have repeats, there are never any repeats within the number in this game. You can use that info to your advantage. Pay attention to the bio of the girl when you start the game, the bio tells you exactly what range the digits of her phone number can be in. I've also listed them in the pay scale section above. So, for example, Kayo Katajima says 2-5. That means the digits of her number will be 2, 3, 4 and 5 in some order. You can still guess other numbers, but they will never be correct. Use dead numbers as fillers when you want/need to identify a portion of the number without possibly confusing things with the other digits. If you want to know if it starts with 1-2-X-X, put in dead numbers for the X's rather than numbers which might confuse your results. You'll rarely need anything like this if you're really good at logic, but it can help those that are just learning or just want to make it easier even if it might cost them some money due to extra guesses. It makes no difference whether or not you call her. Regardless of what you hear or even whether you call, you get paid the same. One of the girls usually only appears at night and another only on the weekend, though I was playing at night when I built the chart, so I'm not currently sure which is the night girl. But, if you're trying for a certain girl and she just isn't appearing, it may be because you need to play at night or on the weekend to get her. The best is getting Naoko's number on the first try. But since that's pure luck and not skill, why bother to track it? ---------------------------------------- 6) Happy Bullet [HPBT] ---------------------------------------- A) Description Shoot one sad soul with a happy bullet and spread the love. You have 30 seconds to do this. B) Pay Scale $0.00 for a miss, a wrong target or failing to shoot in time. $5.00 for a hit right away (within the first few seconds). $3.50 and decreasing the longer you take to find and hit the correct target. At 25 seconds left, it has already dropped to this level. $5.00 for a hit with 0 or 1 second left. C) Tips/Tactics Pay attention to the characteristics you're looking for. If you forget, you can pull them up again by pressing Triangle during the game, though your clock will still run at that point. So take the time beforehand, while the clock hasn't started yet, to memorize your objective. Other than that, you'll have to decide for yourself whether it's easier for you to be zoomed in and searching, or if you prefer to hunt zoomed out, then zoom in and out to examine possible targets. Different methods will work better for different people and you'll have to discover for yourself which suits you best. You can try for speed, but it's usually better to just wait for the last second before you shoot. Getting the $5.00 at 1 second left is a lot easier than trying to earn it at the beginning of the game. D) Awards Professional Sniper -- Title for 10 successful missions Eagle Eye Sniper -- Title for sniping more than 10 times without zooming in Legendary Sniper -- Title for completing 20 missions in a row successfully (*1) Sunk Punk Sniper -- Title for 30 unsuccessful missions in a row E) Comments My best: 5 consecutive successful hits. (I don't play much) ---------------------------------------- 7) Perfect Nanny [NANY] ---------------------------------------- A) Description You are the troll nanny. Keep the babies from crying. If they start to cry, you can yell at them to quiet them down some. B) Pay Scale $0.20 for clearing the stage. (This increases at later stages.) $0.20 bonus. (I have no idea what this is for, but I've always gotten it.) $0.30 for each bomb you have. $0.05 for each candy you gather beyond 3 bombs. Those are per round amounts. C) Tips/Tactics Each round is only 1 minute long. It'll seem like 5, but it's only 1. Keep an eye on the clock. Sometimes you can let some babies cry for a bit if the time is almost up. Gather three pieces of candy to earn an extra bomb. The bugs can be swatted, but beware. They'll go away for 5 seconds, but when they come back, they are invulnerable for about 25 seconds. I often swat a couple of the bugs right away, then swat the rest later. I find this helps keep me from getting overwhelmed early on. Once you have 3 bombs, any candy you pick up will count towards a bonus for that round. There are 10 stages to this game. You will know you are on the last stage when they throw five bugs at you! D) Awards Substitute Teacher Ogre Nanny -- ~ working as Nanny for the first time ever (*1) Kindergarten Teacher Ogre Nanny -- ~ completing the game for the first time Legendary Ogre Nanny -- ~ completing the game more than 30 times (*1) Insect Killer Ogre Nanny -- Title for shooting down over 30 bugs Hungry Ogre Nanny -- Title for completing by picking up a snack Soothing Ogre Nanny -- Title for completing without using a bomb for the first time ever (*1) E) Comments I suspect the description for the Hungry Ogre Nanny award is incorrect. When I got it, I had picked up a snack on the last level, though I'm not convinced that had anything to do with it. Still, I used no bombs afterwards and I did get the award, so maybe it did have something to do with it. I have no idea why I don't have the Substitute Teacher Award. I must have missed the email somehow. My best: $13.85 on a complete game. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- VI. Jobs, $50.00 [JB50] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is the section for jobs you get from the $50.00 Vending Machines. ---------------------------------------- 1) Space Blaster [BLST] ---------------------------------------- A) Description Take out 3 large enemies with your one puny spaceship. Thankfully, you do have unlimited time and ammo to do this with. B) Pay Scale Your pay is shown in pennies in the top left corner as you play. Up to $1.66 is available for shooting up the first ship with no time bonus. You can get a bonus when you defeat the ship, if you were fast enough. C) Tips/Tactics For the first level, there are only really 2 things you need to know. First, only the captain matters. You can shoot up the ship for some money, but killing the captain is how you defeat the ship. Second, the top left corner is a safe spot. If you are all the way in the top left, you can't be hit. The first enemy will cycle through 7 different forms of attack, starting again with the first if necessary. The second enemy is reminiscent of one of the big bosses from the arcade game R-Type. To defeat him, pound the snot out of the three green domes that pop up from time to time. This enemy has 4 different attacks, each with a different safe spot. For the first attack, be at the very top, just to the right of your score. The second attack has a safe spot directly over the green dome at the top of the screen. For the third attack, be at the bottom, diagonally left of the green dome. The final attack's safe spot is directly under the bottom green dome. (You can actually reverse the second and fourth safe spots as they both work for both attacks.) For the final enemy, there is a single safe spot for all its attacks. Be below and to the right of wherever he is launching his attack from. You want to be close to him, but not too close. He can be beaten in as little as 11 seconds. D) Awards Rookie Shooter -- Title for taking down all bosses in 5 minutes Expert Shooter -- Title for taking down all bosses in 3 minutes (*1) Legendary Shooter -- Title for taking down all bosses in 2 minutes (*1) Charged Shooter -- Title for getting 10 speed-up capsules E) Comments My best: 271 seconds. I can beat the first enemy in 44 seconds. I can beat the third enemy in 14 seconds (not 11 and I still need more practice to get more consistent against him). But it's the second enemy that does me in. I usually take between 2 and 3 minutes just for him. ---------------------------------------- 2) Drunken Mayor [DRNK] ---------------------------------------- A) Description You're the mayor (with keys to the nuclear weapons no less), so what do you do all day? Why, drink of course! The first six levels you have to attend ribbon cutting ceremonies where the fools expect you to cut the ribbon, despite your weaving, staggering and general unsteadiness. The seventh level, all hell has broken loose and its up to you to prevent global nuclear war. All you have to do is press one button. So, with martini in hand, you take the elevator down to the command center and stagger up to the button console. Now, just press the button and save the world. The catch? You only get one shot or the world goes boom. B) Pay Scale $0.00 for failing to cut the first ribbon. $0.05 if you make the first, but miss round 2. $0.15 for missing at round 3. $0.35 for missing at round 4. $0.85 for missing at round 5. $1.85 for missing at round 6. $0.00 for missing at round 7. No pay for drunks that blow up the world! $9.35 for preventing war (completing round 7). C) Tips/Tactics This isn't nearly as hard as it seems at first. The first thing to realize is that the Mayor's hand follows a pattern on each level. There is an invisible track which his hand traces. The track is different on each level, but there is a track to each level. (They even form figures if you were to draw a line along the entire track!) With that in mind, it's just a matter of finding a place in the track where the track turns sharply near the ribbon, either above or below. Use the stick to stuff his hand solidly into the bend, then slowly adjust the stick until his hand starts moving towards the ribbon. Some places he'll be too unsteady for this to work well. But on each of the first 6 levels there is at least one position on the track which you can use as an anchor and slowly shift from. As the scissors cross the ribbon, cut. The other thing to note is that the game is a little bit off here. Where the scissors are and where the ribbon is don't quite line up properly. They are off by about half the width of the scissors. Aim high. If you try to cut the ribbon while it is in the scissor opening, but near the top of the opening, you will miss. On the other hand, the scissors can actually be just above the ribbon and still cut the ribbon just fine. It's bad programming, but at least it is consistent. Now that you know about it, it shouldn't cause any more problems for you. For the last level, you need a slightly different approach. Done the way you might think you should, you'll probably have war every time. Instead, follow the track until you find the place where instead of zipping across the buttons from top to bottom (or vice versa), it goes from bottom, up across the buttons and then back down to the bottom. Move his hand to the right side of the track. Swing his hand up and across the buttons and down to the left. Get the feel for how it moves and how fast it moves. Set up back on the right and start another pass. Hit the buttons right smack in the middle. There's a green button on the left and a red button on the right. Don't aim for either of them. Aim right for the middle. I think, but am not certain and don't really care to test it out further, that you will always fail if you try to hit the buttons on one of the top/bottom passes along the track. Here's my method that I use every time on each level... 1) Hold the stick down-right and just cut as the scissors pass the ribbon. 2) Hold center (i.e., no direction) and cut as the scissors pass. 3) Hold center and cut as the scissors pass. 4) Hold down-right and cut as the scissors pass (anywhere between the two center people will work) 5) Hold down-right and get his hand steady, beneath the ribbon. Slowly and very slightly shift the stick to the right until his hand creeps up toward the ribbon. Then cut when appropriate. 6) Hold up-right, then shift the stick to follow the path from top-right to bottom-left, up and then across and down over the ribbon. Lock his hand down just under the ribbon and slowly shift the stick left until his hand starts to move back up towards the ribbon. Cut when appropriate. 7) Hold down-left and force his hand to reverse track. Trace up, down and over the hill (across the buttons). Reverse course again and press as his hand crosses the buttons. Aim for the exact center, between the buttons. It appears that which button you are supposed to press is random. Half the time you are supposed to press the red and the other half the green. It also seems to be impossible to tell which you are supposed to press on any given game. Which is why I tell you to press exactly between the buttons. You get credit for pressing both, which means you pressed the correct button and averted war. D) Awards Mayor the Deliverer -- Title for completing all the stages for the first time Expert Mayor -- Title for working more than 10 times Big-Name Mayor -- Title for working more than 10 times again Dud Mayor -- Title for failing to cut over 50 ribbons Armageddon Mayor -- Title for causing global destruction 7 times Legendary Mayor -- Title for completing all the stages more than 30 times E) Comments My best: 35 wins (5 complete games and finally lost on stage 1 of game 6) ---------------------------------------- 3) Ghost Psychic [GHST] ---------------------------------------- A) Description You will be shown a series of 3 pictures, each with a ghost in it. Decide whether each ghost is real or fake. B) Pay Scale $0.00 for each ghost you claim is fake. $1.50 for each ghost you claim is real. C) Tips/Tactics Simply claim each ghost is real. Even if you see no ghost, call it real. There's no point in doing anything other than calling them all real and getting the full $4.50 for playing. Unlike other games, you cannot choose to play this one again. When you finish the game, the only choice is to exit. Retry doesn't appear. D) Awards Rookie Ghost Photography Analyst -- ~ analyzing 10 sets of ghost photography Veteran Ghost Photography Analyst -- ~ analyzing 30 sets of ghost photography Pro Ghost Photography Analyst -- ~ analyzing 100 sets of ghost photography Nocturnal Ghost Photography Analyst -- Title for analyzing ghost photos in the dead of night E) Comments What's to say? I've gotten $4.50 just like everyone else. ---------------------------------------- 4) Buddha's Quest [BUDA] ---------------------------------------- A) Description It's kind of a miniature RPG. Your task is to defeat 100 Buddhas of various types. You have hit points, armor, weapons, healing herbs, stats like strength and agility, levels and experience points. B) Pay Scale Each Buddha you defeat will add a fixed amount of money to your paycheck based on which specific Buddha it was that you defeated. If you are defeated at any point, you lose half of your earnings, but you do get a paycheck for the other half. Alternatively, if you think you are in dire straits, you start the game with a return scroll which will transport you safely out of the game and award your full Paycheck to that point. Or you could just beat all 100 Buddha's for the full paycheck as well. C) Tips/Tactics This is going to be a LONG section. I'll start with some general tips, follow with a list of known Items and what they do, then finish with a list of each type of Buddha you can face, along with a lot of stats and comments about each. C1) General Tips: Know what types of enemies you are likely to face. If you are expecting fast enemies, pay more attention to keeping your health up. It's better to use up a healing herb earlier than you might need to than to encounter a fast enemy and get killed before you get a chance to heal. Don't keep extra weapons and armor. Throw them away first if your inventory is full, followed by antidote herbs. There's little chance you will need any of them. Much more often you'll need the extra healing herb than you would that extra shield. Like anything, there's going to be exceptions. There will be times you wish you had the extra shield instead. But their frequency is MUCH smaller than the times you'll wish you had the extra healing herb. Be sure to equip any weapons or armor you find. They go into your inventory, but are not automatically equipped. They aren't one use items either, they'll stay with you until they are stolen, you toss them, or the game ends. Learn the fine art of running away. There are many reasons to run away, and there is no shame in doing so. In fact, use the pattern below to start the game instead of taking things as they come. Your first fight will always be a Stone Buddha. You can't change that. But the next three fights can be either Stone or Bronze Buddhas. Run away from those Stone Buddhas until you get Bronze Buddhas to start. This will make fight #2 more difficult than it needs to be since you haven't yet gained a level and the Bronze Buddha will almost always be faster than you, meaning they swing first each round. Since you only have 17 hit points to start, and have probably lost some in the first round, this can be a difficult fight. Don't worry about using up your starting herbs right here. You're very likely to earn more than you can carry later anyway. After the fourth fight, you can encounter either Gold or Viper Buddhas. Run away from the Gold and only fight the Viper Buddhas. This is likely to fill your inventory with useless antidote herbs, but the Vipers are worth more experience than the Golds are. If you do all of that, you'll go up levels a little faster, which can help. In fact, you'll go up a level right after fight 9, just in time for fight number 10 and the B Buddha. You'll get another level after fight #11. For fight number 11, I generally fight whichever Buddha appears. But from fight 12 to 19, flee from the B Buddhas and only fight the Gal Buddhas. Gal Buddhas can be nasty when they want to throw fire at you every time, but it's well worth it to try to get Fire Scrolls from them for use during fights 21 to 39. Use those Fire Scrolls on Ruby Buddhas (other than fight 20, which you are usually faster during) and on Guard Buddhas. Ruby Buddhas are almost always faster than you are, they hit hard, and it's hard to flee from them. If you can kill them with a 1 shot fire spell, so much the better. Guard Buddhas are just hard to do damage to. They have a high armor rating, but are weak to magic. If you have extra fire scrolls, use them before using any scrolls of attack. The scrolls of attack are useful at any level of the game, but the fire scrolls will never do more than 30 points of damage. You start hitting for 30 or more before too much longer anyway. Beyond that, read the item and Buddha lists for a few more helpful hints. C2) Items Note that these lists are unlikely to be complete. I still occasionally find a new item that I hadn't seen before, though usually only when I reach the higher levels. Armor improves your defense. Weapons improve your attack. You can have one of each equipped at any given time. Also, it does not take an action to change weapons or armor. Using most other items will be your action for the turn, but you can freely change weapons and armor. Armor: 1) Veneer Shield (+2 defense) 2) Plastic Shield (+4 defense) 3) Iron Shield (+10 defense) 4) Antidote Shield (+16, prevents, but doesn't cure, poison) 5) Anticrime shield (+20, prevents theft) 6) Magical Shield (+24 defense, prevents spells) 7) Dragon Shield (+24 defense, halves damage from special attacks. For example the Punk Buddha's Spew Fiery Breath does 13 instead of the normal 27) 8) Demon Shield (+40 defense) Weapons: 1) Club (+2 attack) 2) Bronze Sword (+4 attack) 3) Metal Bat (+10 attack) 4) Ceramic Sword (+15 attack, you always attack first each round) 5) Crowbar (+20 attack) 6) Accurate Sword (+20 attack, never miss) 7) Iceman's Sword (+25 attack) 8) Stainless Sword (+30 attack) 9) Demon's Rod (+35 attack) Other Items: 1) Recover scroll - Exits the game and awards your full paycheck to that point. You start the game with 1 and on extremely rare occasions may find another during the game. I usually discard this item. I'm in it to win, not to run away and the extra inventory slot could hold a Great Herb instead. 2) Herb - This heals 30 hit points, up to your current max. You start with 2. 3) Good Herb - Heals 50 hit points, up to your current max. 4) Great Herb - Fully heals you to your maximum hit points. 5) Life Seed - This is a rare item which will permanently increase your max hit points by 5. Well, permanent for the current game anyway. 6) Antidote Herb - Cures poison. Poison does 3 damage to you each round on top of whatever damage the enemy is doing. Only a few enemies can cause poison, poison WILL wear off on its own (eventually), and the enemies that can cause poison can all also be carrying an antidote herb. For this reason, I always jettison these in favor of healing herbs or other items whenever my inventory fills up. 7) Fire Scroll - Does 20 damage when used by an enemy. Does 30 damage when used by you. 8) Hell Fire Scroll - Does 40 damage when used by an enemy. Does 60 damage when used by you. 9) Scroll of Attack - Doubles your attack power for the fight. Using these on any enemy you can kill in 2 or fewer hits is a complete waste. Save them for the enemies that are harder to kill. 10) Guard Scroll - Doubles your defense for the fight. If you can manage to keep these, they are excellent against the Graffiti Buddhas you find in the 80s. But since you usually get them from Guard Buddhas in the 30s, it's reasonable for you to toss them in favor of other items. What good is a Guard Scroll if you aren't even making it to the 80s anyway? 11) Sleep Scroll - Puts the enemy to sleep for three rounds, allowing you to get in free attacks, heal, or do whatever else you want to. If you can, and think you'll get there, save a Sleep Scroll for the Holy Moly Buddha at fight 90. 12) Blind Scroll - Causes blindness, which makes it much harder to hit the opp. C3) The Buddhas First, some notes about how these are laid out. Each type of Buddha has a fixed amount of hit points that is the same for every Buddha of that type. Where I list the hit points, you will often see (at the higher levels) a range for their hit points. This doesn't mean that their hit points can vary. It means I have hit them for 1 less than the lower number and they survived and I have hit them for the upper number and they died. So I know that their hit points are within that range, though I don't know exactly where. 1) Stone Buddha Found on fights: 1 - 4 Hit Points: 5 Experience Points: 5 Paycheck Value: $0.04 Attack Strength: 5 (This is how much damage they will do if they crit hit you) Comments: If you follow my advice, fight this guy on fight 1, then run away and fight Bronze instead for the extra Experience Points. 5 XP might seem like nothing, especially when you get to fights with hundreds or thousands of XP on the line. But the game seems to be balanced such that taking the fights with the maximum possible XP puts you just ahead on the levels. Missing 5 XP now, once you get to fights in the 50s, with 2,184 XP for each fight, could mean that you are 5 XP short of going up a level. The game really does seem to be balanced this way. I know for certain it is at lower levels. 2) Bronze Buddha Found on fights: 2 - 4 Hit Points: 7 Experience Points: 10 Paycheck Value: $0.12 Attack Strength: 7 Comments: Only trouble for fight 2, where he will likely be faster than you. But it is worth it to struggle through fight 2 rather than take on a Stone. 3) Gold Buddha Found on fights: 5 - 9 Hit Points: 10 Experience Points: 20 Paycheck Value: $0.32 Attack Strength: 11 Comments: Worth more cash than a Viper, but less XP. Go with the higher XP and run away from these guys instead. 4) Viper Buddha Found on fights: 5 - 9 Hit Points: 8 Experience Points: 31 Paycheck Value: $0.20 Attack Strength: 9 Comments: Can cause poison, which drains 3 hp from you each round. Often has an antidote herb for you afterwards. Fight these guys instead of Gold for the extra XP. It'll pay off in the long run. 5) B Buddha Found on fights: 10 - 19 Hit Points: 15 Experience Points: 126 Paycheck Value: $0.28 Attack Strength: 14 Comments: I have no idea why it is B and not Boy. Much safer to fight than the Gal Buddha and her Fiery death, but also can't give you a Fire Scroll. Still, these guys often "Charge Up" which gives you extra time to kill them. Beware though, if you don't kill them, their next swing will be more powerful. 6) Gal Buddha Found on fights: 11 - 19 Hit Points: 13 Experience Points: 126 Paycheck Value: $0.28 Attack Strength: 11 Comments: Beware their Fire Scroll attack, which will ALWAYS hit you for 20 damage. You can end up using a lot of herbs against these pains. But the reward is that you can get Fire Scrolls from defeating them. On fight 11, it may be worth it to fight whichever Buddha shows up. But if you've followed my suggestions, you'll gain a level after fight 11 and have a max hp of 42. From fight 12 onward, I run away from the B Buddhas so I can fight these and try to get as many Fire Scrolls as I can. 7) Ruby Buddha Found on fights: 20 - 29 Hit Points: 28 Experience Points: 420 Paycheck Value: $0.40 Attack Strength: 24 Comments: On fight 20, you'll usually be faster. On any fight from 21-29, they will usually be faster. It's also very difficult to flee from them. Be sure to keep your health high enough at the end of each fight so that you can survive at least one hit at the start of the next fight. At other areas you can often push your life and herbs because you know that you will get the first move in the next fight 99% of the time (always a random chance of bad luck). But don't try that where these guys are around. This goes for any other ranges where fast enemies are found too. These guys are the primary reason to take on all those Gal Buddhas. One Fire Scroll will kill these guys instantly. I don't recommend wasting a Fire Scroll on Fight 20, where you have the speed advantage. But I use them on all other encounters with these guys. These guys will often drop Scrolls of Attack. Try to save those for as long as you can. 8) Big Hair Buddha Found on fights: 21 - 29 Hit Points: 28 Experience Points: 420 Paycheck Value: $0.40 Attack Strength: ?? Comments: These guys can cast healing on themselves and fully restore their hp. So what. Fight them anyway. They're not especially hard to kill, even when they do heal themselves just before you would've killed them. And they have great items. They will usually drop a Great Herb and will on rare occasions drop a Life Seed. 9) Barmaid Buddha Found on fights: 21 - 29 Hit Points: 20 Experience Points: 273 Paycheck Value: $0.36 Attack Strength: ?? Comments: Run from these. They're worth less XP, they can cast fire at you for 20 damage, and they don't often drop a Fire Scroll. They just aren't worth fighting. 10) Guard Buddha Found on fights: 30 -39 Hit Points: 30 Experience Points: 840 Paycheck Value: $0.48 Attack Strength: 36 Comments: Has a very high defense. You can hit him, but won't usually do much damage. Use any Fire Scrolls you have left. Otherwise, try not to use other items (except healing) unless you really have to. Fire Scrolls aren't worth much beyond this level, but the other Items are. They often drop Guard Scrolls, which aren't all that great right now, but can be a huge help if you survive into the 80s. It's up to you to decide whether to keep them or toss them in favor of healing herbs or other items. 11) B Buddha 2 Found on fights: 31 - 39 Hit Points: 34 Experience Points: 840 Paycheck Value: $0.48 Attack Strength: 40 Comments: Like the B Buddha from the teens, this guy will often "Charge Up" to a more powerful attack... which usually just means extra turns for you to kill him without taking any damage. 12) Micro Buddha Found on fights: 31 - 39 Hit Points: 1 - 10 Experience Points: 840 Paycheck Value: $0.48 Attack Strength: 20 Comments: These guys are almost always faster than you, and they can be hard to hit, but I've never yet managed to hit them and have them survive, no matter how little I've hit for. 13) Shaolin Buddha Found on fights: 40 - 49 Hit Points: 32 Experience Points: 1,260 Paycheck Value: $0.56 Attack Strength: 35 Comments: Their big deal is that they often critical hit you. You can have a great game going, get surprise attacked, critical hit, have them be faster than you, and have them critical hit you again before you can do anything. It doesn't happen very often, but when it does, you lose. Period. Nothing you can do about it either. Thankfully, it really is uncommon for that to happen. They do often crit hit you, but you are usually faster and aren't often "suddenly attacked". Also, by this point you can probably kill them in 2 swings most of the time, especially if you've found a Bronze Sword or Metal Bat along the way. Add in the fact that they often miss when they swing and these guys, while potentially deadly, are often easy to kill without taking any damage. 14) Bio Buddha Found on fights: 41 - 49 Hit Points: 36 Experience Points: 1,260 Paycheck Value: $0.56 Attack Strength: ?? Comments: Like the Viper Buddha, these guys can poison you. It's an annoyance if you don't have an antidote herb, but it's far less deadly at this point when your max hp is so much higher. These guys are pretty easy to kill. 15) Spring Buddha Found on fights: 41 - 49 Hit Points: 44 - 46 Experience Points: 1,260 Paycheck Value: $0.56 Attack Strength: ?? Comments: These guys have more hit points than others at this level. It usually takes you three hits to kill them. That is offset by their frequent decision to curse you. Which is great. All it does is prevents you from casting spells. You can still use herbs, and while they're wasting their attack cursing you, you can happily pound the snot out of them. 16) Barmaid Buddha 2 Found on fights: 50 - 59 Hit Points: 30 Experience Points: 2,184 Paycheck Value: $0.64 Attack Strength: ?? Comments: This nasty piece of work can cast sleep on you, then follow that up with a couple of Hell Fire Scrolls. You can easily be dead before you can do anything about it. Come into fight 50 with as much health as possible and use a Sleep Scroll of your own if you have one. I often run away from these on fights 51 - 60. They're just not worth trying to get a Hell Fire Scroll from. If you do fight them though, you can often get a Hell Fire Scroll from them afterwards. 17) Yakuza Buddha Found on fights: 51 - 59 Hit Points: 60 - 62 Experience Points: 2,184 Paycheck Value: $0.64 Attack Strength: ?? Comments: These guys will often reach into your bag and try to steal from you. They also love to run away, often taking your items with them. And they're usually faster than you, meaning they get the first action each round. If they do steal something from you, and you manage to kill them before they flee, you will get your Item back. If they stole more than one Item, you'll only get the last one they took back. Thankfully, they're not very good thieves and will fail more often than they succeed. Also, they only steal unequipped weapons or shields, nothing else and not the weapon or shield you are using. 18) Sapphire Buddha Found on fights: 51 - 59 Hit Points: 32 - 47 Experience Points: 2,184 Paycheck Value: $0.64 Attack Strength: 51 Comments: These guys are very similar to the Ruby Buddhas of the 20s. Luckily, they're also fairly uncommon. You'll rarely see more than 2 of them in a given game, often not even that many. They're fast and hard to run from though, so be careful with them. 19) Family Buddha Found on fights: 51 - 59 and 61 - 69 Hit Points: 37 - 47 Experience Points: 2,184 Paycheck Value: $0.64 Attack Strength: 35 Comments: These guys are the first to span two sections. They are similar to the Big Hair Buddhas in that they often drop Great Herbs. It may be worth it to run away from other enemies on levels 51 - 59 just to try to build up your store of Great Herbs. You'll be glad you did later. In the 61 - 69 range, don't fight these guys unless you need to replenish your herbs. They aren't worth as much xp as the other enemies at those levels, but it's better to earn less xp than it is to die! 20) Punk Buddha Found on fights: 60 - 69 Hit Points: 64 - 67 Experience Points: 3,528 Paycheck Value: $0.72 Attack Strength: 55 Comments: They have a special attack of spewing fiery breath which will always hit for exactly 27 damage, which isn't too bad at this level. Could be a lot worse. Heck, we've already faced Hell Fire Scrolls for 40 damage. Furthermore, these guys can drop Dragon Shields, which cut the special attack from 27 damage to only 13. 21) Warrior Buddha Found on fights: 61 - 69 Hit Points: 70 - 72 Experience Points: 3,528 Paycheck Value: $0.72 Attack Strength: ?? Comments: Lots of Hit Points for these guys, but thankfully they'll sometimes Guard, which is the equivalent of giving you a free shot at them. 22) Graffiti Buddha Found on fights: 70 - 79 Hit Points: 117 - 120 Experience Points: 4,872 Paycheck Value: $0.80 Attack Strength: ?? Comments: Did I say Warrior Buddhas had a lot of hit points? Oops. These guys are why I told you to save all those Guard Scrolls and Scroll of Attacks. Heck, if you've got some Sleep Scrolls, they won't go amiss either, though those I'd hang on to if you can. It's going to take you a while to take these guys down. Expect to use up healing herbs faster than you get them if you end up facing a lot of these guys. You're usually faster than they are, but being walls, they will often surround you if you try to run. I really hope you saved those Guard Scrolls and/or Scrolls of Attack. 23) Scam Buddha Found on fights: 71 - 79 and 81 - 89 Hit Points: 87 - 100 Experience Points: 5,544 Paycheck Value: $0.84 Attack Strength: ?? Comments: Like the Yakuza Buddha from before, only even harder to kill before they flee. Also, like the Family Buddhas, these guys span two sections. 24) Shaolin Buddha 2 Found on fights: 71 - 79 Hit Points: 59 - 61 Experience Points: 4,872 Paycheck Value: $0.80 Attack Strength: 60 Comments: Improved version of the Shaolin Buddha... sort of. These guys also like to crit hit... when they actually connect. But while they're stronger than the original Shaolin Buddhas, so are you at this point. More so than they are in fact. Of the enemies available here, I prefer to fight these guys. They're easy to kill and often will get you a good or great herb without even hitting you during the fight. 25) Gigantic Buddha Found on fights: 80 - 89 Hit Points: 89 - 132 Experience Points: 6,216 Paycheck Value: $0.88 Attack Strength: 70 Comments: Looks scary, but isn't really all that tough. They can hea
