1. Introduction
==============================================================
Welcome to my second guide for Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G,
(or what they call in the west "Monster Hunter Freedom Unite")
Monster Carve Rates. Below gives an explanation on how you can
receive items when hunting monsters on a quest:

This guide only covers G-Level level monsters. Please refer to
Kawakami_Hanabi's Carve Rates for Monster Hunter Freedom 2 for
the other rates:

Also, only contact me if you want to correct any errors, not
complaining that you've tried XYZ times to get XYZ item. As
much as I would like to help you, I cannot change the rates.

Breaking
--------------
Certain parts of the monster's body can be broken, giving more
items in your rewards after the quest. To break a certain part
you will need to stagger the hitzone at least once. Some items
can only be acquired through breaking. Most monster parts can
be broken with just plain old DAMAGE. Yep, including Impact,
Slash, Shot and Non-weapon*. But still some monsters still
need a certain type, a classic example would be Elder Dragons.
They require Dragon damage to break it off. Also some can be
broken off when their health is below a certain level.
*Non-weapon damage? What?
Non-weapon damage is the third type of damage. It is neither
Impact or Slash, so it can't knock out monster's or cut their
tails. Examples of Infliction type damage are: Bombs, Cannon,
Ballista Shots, Kick, Taunt punch (falcon punch!) and more.
Yes, they are capable of destroying most parts too, but there
is no such part that requires this certain type of damage to
break it. Gunlance fire/shelling is not counted.

Carving
--------------
As you might of known from the previous Monster Hunter games,
you can carve monsters that you have killed by going over
their dead body and pressing the Circle button.
Carving is pretty much the only way that can help you advance
onwards through the game, creating new weapons, armors and new
decorations with.
A rare case of carving is when the monster is still alive. The
only monsters that this can be done to are: Gypceros, Purple
Gypceros, Shen Gaoren, Lao-Shan Lung, Ash Lao-Shan Lung and
Yamatsukami. And no, it does not do damage to the monster...
Tails can also be cut off for carving. The monster does not
need to be dead for the tail to be carved. Simply walk up to
the tail and press the Circle button. And no, you cannot cut
off Lao-Shan's tail. Even with Ceanataurian Dagger & CWCheats.
There has been much debate over "crouch carving" and its main
advantages Speed and Avoidance. Firstly for those who do not
know what crouch carving is, its simple putting your character
in crouch, pressing the X button and then carving. This simply
cancels the animation of the hunter back into a standing pose,
and straight into the crouch, allowing you to have about 0.4
of a second for the next carve.
Well, crouch carving is mainly used for Lao-Shan and Fatalis
as they can give up to 9 carves, in which you'll have to do in
60 seconds. My testing has shown that crouch carving will save
you the max of 3.6 seconds (okay, maybe not the EXACT time,
but close enough). This is still useless, as a single carve
takes about 4.2 seconds. That means the extra time left will
not be enough for another carve anyways. Plus for Lao-Shan and
Fatalis, there are multiple carve spots on the body, so you'll
need to move, and trust me... doing that when crouching is not
really fast... and plus, returning into standing position will
take some time too... so I don't think its really worth it.
But don't take my word for it! Try it yourself and if you get
an extra carve, congratulations!

Capture
--------------
To capture or kill? Well they both have pros and cons, but
still you will capture the monster at some point. For the
monster to be captured, it first needs to be weakened to a
certain percentage of health. Then you'll need to throw some
Tranq bombs (Tranquilizer + Bomb Material) or fire Tranq S
at the monster's body (yes anywhere, correction from before,
my bad...sorry). Two will do the job, and it will be sleeping.
Take note that you can only capture monsters when the quest
type is a "Hunting" quest, White Flag.
The main reason for capturing monsters is that they supposedly
give more items. As this is usually the case, it isn't always.
Different monsters have different rates, so look them up and
do a little thinking/calculation, before going on the quest.
Generally the rule is that carving will give you more chances
of getting the rarer items, while capture will get you a stash
of any rarity. So say if you need a couple of scales to make
a certain armor piece, you'd rather capture than kill since it
is both faster and will give you more common items than the
whole kill and carve thing.
When is the right time to capture? Well some monsters actually
show you when they're ready to be captured, kind of like them
saying "Hey buddy, I'm nearly dead now... tranq me up!" so pay
attention to the signs. I have stated the conditions next to
the "Capture" for each monster, taking note that not every
monster will show signs. In that case you can use an armor
skill called "Eagle Eye" (good movie, but not it) to see when
it is ready. Eagle Eye requires +10 Observance skill points.
So to capture or not to capture? Make your decision based upon
which items you need. Yes, you don't REALLY need that divine
plate, do you?

Drop
--------------
Monsters will drop items in the middle of the battle, when
something has occurred. Simply walk up to the shiny blinking
point and press the Circle button. Monsters do not have any
limits to what they drop, so go crazy. If I can remember
correctly (sorry haven't played this game properly in like
ages), the shiny item will appear for about 2 minutes. Again,
getting it while the monster is charging at you can be risky
so its up to you. I have used the term "Sonic", which refers
to Sonic Bombs, Crag Shots, Clust Shots and Barrel Bombs, and
not just Sonic Bombs.

Monster Size
--------------
Some monsters, when killed have a certain size measuring from
their Head to Tail. This size is simply a measure of how hard
they were to defeat or capture, very similar to the fishing in
real life, so show it off! (How long is your Khezu?)
Whenever you start a certain quest, the game will generate a
random size for the boss monster (within a range of course).
So that means knowing which quest gives the highest range is
useful. After each monster's carve rate data, I have listed
the quests which give King Size and Mini Sizes frequently, so
use them while you farm for items!
Disclaimer: These quests are to MY recommendations, again just
like the carve rates do not come asking me why you haven't
received a Mini Size after XYZ amount of tries, as I have no
control over that. Some of the sizes have "none", this means
that there aren't any in game quests that have the longest or
shortest, they're somewhere else such as Download Quests.
If you get a big or small enough size for that monster, you
will receive a Crown. Crowns are ranked, either Silver or Gold
depending on the size. Silver crowns are pretty much useless,
they're just a figure that you know you have to beat to get a
Gold Crown. Get Gold Crowns for all the monsters that appear
on the size list and you'll earn yourself a special Award in
your Guild Card.

As you know, there are different ranks for monsters. What used
to be called the "G-Level" in Monster Hunter Freedom 2 is very
different now, here is a list to clarify the proper terms used
for ranking in Monster Hunter Portable 2 G (... or Monster
Hunter Freedom Unite):
Village Elder/Cat:
Elder Rank - 1 Star to 9 Star
Guild Hall:
Lower Rank - 1 Star to 5 Star
Upper Rank - 6 Star to 8 Star
G-Level - G1 Star to G3 Star
The point I'm trying to make here is to not get Upper Rank and
G-Level mixed up and Elder is used for everything outside the
Guild Hall.

Background information on the guide:
Well I started gathering information on this guide in May/June
and I mainly used it for my Monster Hunter group... and now we
are sharing it with everyone, so I hope you've enjoyed it.
Basically it originated as a Word Document, I had to put it in
a text file for GameFAQs so that kinda took long... and it was
not me that only worked on, pretty much the whole group.
Anyways, I wish you all the best in obtaining some of the hard
to get items, hope you enjoyed using this guide as much as I
had fun typing it up... and remember, never give up!
