Well the poisen battle axe will work but i would get a little better armor but i would use the kut ku armor if you can get that. if you can then get some armor shere's those will help

The weapon I used was the Wolf Tessen (SnS) its a Garuga weapon because I was spamming that quest just for money before I had even started. And that was great because it had White Sharpness and 252 raw damage. (no elements). But i am not sure if you have that available yet or not. Either way its a great SnS to have because of the damage and sharpness until you get to a better set with some elemental damage. I used it on wyverns of all kinds and its really effective.

Killing a ratholos is pretty easy...if you're a beginner bring 5 flash bombs(just in case of misses or duds), 1 pitfall, 2 traptools+2nets=1pitfall. (this will help if one doesn't work), and if you really want to bring 10sm. barrel bombs, and 3lg. barrel bombs(if you're not really into up close wepon action). In my opinion it doesnt matter what armor you use..(that's just my opinion though) b/c i just went by what looked cool and what weapon to use....b/c the tactics are: Either you do the damage and take some damage or you do little damage and have high armor. Or if you're lucky you could get Hi-def and Hi-atk. I had garuga body, black steel legs, iron belt, gypceros helm, and skull helm. It looked cool to me..no real effects.

for my first rathalos kill i used the Ioprey armor because its defense against fire is about +2 each piece of armor. I used the GS Great Serpentblade because killing velocidromes are easy. all i brought to kill the rathalos was:
10 Potions
10 Herbs
5 Whetstones
5 Flashbombs
3 Psychoserum
5 Paintballs
Also, to get the Great Serpentblade you need:
16 sm monster bones
7 velocidrome claws
2 med monster bones
1 lightcrystal
you need to make the bone blade. the above materials are everything you need to make the bone blade and upgrade it to the great serpentblade.

also, the Ioprey armor provides the ability to negate poison so if youre hit by rathalos's tail you wont get poisoned. and the weapons that you mentioned are okay against the rathalos because i have those weapons and i tried killing it with those. it took longer than the great serpentblade but they work.

this subjet reminde me of my first rathalos, i played thousand of time again rathalos on ps2 and no suseceful attemps, on the PSP first shot!! and i was not prepared! i had 10 potions and the box item, steel mail and ioprey (all the other parts) and the poisons axe.

i did it the hard way but i killed it, the eassyest way is to pulverise redy(my little name for im) With large barrel bomb+ when he is in a pitfall, he will be heavily damaged and finish him by hiting his head when and only when he spit his fire ball then run to security and wait for FIRE. wou will surely beat it .

if you wante a REALLY GOOOD WEAPON do the ETERNAL STRIFE a little complicated but a really good choice. i use a the trick i telled and used the ES and kiled it in the hole.

First I sugest you to use a complete set of armor to have skill. An ioprey set gives poison imunitie and the Kut-Ku gives you a small atack bonus and you will need just the chest to complete this last set,and youre free to choose any good greaves or helm.

Second, I think the fastest weapon to slay the rathalos is the sword and shield, the deathprize might be very handsome fighting versus rathalos but i prefer the poison axe. Light and heavy bowguns are very secure but maybe you will have trouble slaying it in 50min.

Third, the strategy. Half of the battle he will flies around to do a razor atack. if you have a flash bomb and a good timing you can make him fall and atack his right leg with caution of his tail.The other half of the battle he will run around like stupid. He will do this when turn two times fast. Antecipe him and atack his right leg when he falls sliding and stop before he gets up (you will have the chance to hit three or four atacks). If you continues atacking his right leg one hour he will fall. Also he will spit fire, he will turn once and slow. This will be the best time to hit him. You can atack his tail to cut it off or if you want finish this quickly atack his head (its his weak point). When he gets flying and turn towards you, he probably will atack you. the best strategy is to staybelow him, cuz it will not make wind. But if dont have the time you can get farther if he spits fire and block if he do the tail atack.
