Field Commander
Review by pspgamr4life
"A new type of game!"
It's a new type of game in town for the psp. It's Field Commander! It's kind of like an RTS but it's actually a turn-based strategy game. It is compared often to Advanced Wars for the DS. But, there are a lot of new features...
Graphics 8/10
The graphics are great for a helicopter view. You can definetely determine the different types of units from above. The only thing is, they aren't finely tuned. Like you can see the colors but you can't really see the details on different types of units. Other than that, they are spectacular. The buildings look great. This is a pretty good choice if your looking for graphics.
Sound 9/10
The sound in this game is awesome! From explosions to machine gun fire, it's amazing. You could hear the units moving and the grunts' "Ready sir!" You can even hear the trees crumbling when you destroy them. The voice acting is pretty good and clear. This game has some of the best sound on the system.
Gameplay 10/10
This is what the game is all about- it's earth-shattering gameplay. You can control 32 different types of units and they all have unique abilities. The missions are fun and interactive. You get radio messages from various members of your support team as well as enemy leaders. You can earn money from the number of buildings you own. Even though the storyline is nothing to brag about, it's fun to make believe you are actually living it. You also unlock various maps and divisions after you beat missions. There are about 30 missions in the campaign. So it could take about 12-15 hours if you play regularly. It's not really fast paced so you're going to have to be patient. You can also capture enemy HQ's and other buildings. Better yet, the battle isn't only on land, you can controls various sea and air units! That's right you can control subs, fighter planes, and much more. Also, there are pretty helpful tutorials for new players. So overall this has some of the best gameplay on the psp.
Multiplayer/Replayability 9/10
There are various multiplayer modes in Field Commander. Ad-hoc, Infrastructure, Hot Swap, and Transmission mode. Ad-Hoc is when you play wirelessly between another person near you. Infrastructure is when gamers are connected on a server around the country. There aren't many people on currently, but it's mad fun. Hot Swap is when two players pass one psp between eachg other. So you could play with your friends who don't even have a psp! Transmission mode is completely new to any game. It's when people play a game but they kind of like submit their turns by email. So the two players don't have to be on at the same time! But if one player doesn't respond within 24 hours, the opponent can force- forfeit the other player. In terms of replaying the campaign, there are no additional unlockables other than the ones you get from the end of missions. Also, there are no bonus missions. So this game shines in just about every area. LOCK'N'LOAD!
