Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children
Review by last343
"A cool movie!"
Final Fantasy 7 takes place 2 years after the events of the original Final Fantasy 7 for the Playstation. To start things off, let's get some background detail, our story starts out with Cloud Strife, our hero from the original, looking over the ruined City. Cloud, now given up the life as a mercenary, now runs a business called the "Strife Delivery Service" with a sideline, "You order, we deliver!" And he now remarks himself as a "Delivery Boy" every time he gets a mercenary offering. He now has 2 orphan children named Denzel and Elena. He still keeps to himself and hates to be alone, but never tries to get attention from anyone. He had discarded his old "Buster Sword" because it brings back the evil memories of his past, so now he has about 10 other swords stocked inside his motorbike "just in case he needs some life insurance". To conclude the hero's description, Cloud is a very lonely and quiet person who never acknowledges the outside world, though he doesn't want to be alone.
.
Our next main hero is Tifa Lockhart, she helps parent Denzel and Elena with Cloud, though they have no "special" relationship of their own. The childhood friend of Cloud is a master martial artist, she was taught it in her hometown, Nibelheim, which was burnt down way before the games started. She also helps Cloud run the business in the shop. In Midgar, Tifa owned a bar called "7th Heaven", not to be confused with the show. The bar served as a hangout for Barret and the gang on their quest to destroy Mako Reactors. When Midgar was destroyed at the end of Final Fantasy 7, she remade it in Edge, the city surrounding Midgar's ruins. That is where the orphans live and where the business Cloud runs is managed. Tifa only uses her fighting skills in the defense of herself or others. It is also unknown if she has any love feelings for Cloud. To conclude her, she is a great fighter and always looks out for Cloud.
The other characters from the original Final Fantasy 7 make appearances in this movie, but don't have as big of a role as they did for the original. These characters include, Barret, who has a gun arm and is hot-headed in many situations, hates to be wrong. Aerith, although she is dead, she makes many appearances as a vision to Cloud to give advice and puzzles. Vincent, the man who slept 30 years for the guilt of letting Sephiroth's father, Hojo, taking his lover and doing experiments on her with Jenova cells. Cait Sith, a mechanical cat who is controlled by a Shinra employee, he doesn't show himself for an uknown reason. Red XIII, a talking wolf who's real name is Nanaki, Shinra took him and did experiments on him to find out his species origin. And Yuffie, a ninja with over-confidence in herself, she used to be a materia thief, but now helps out the rest of the party after learning her wrong doings.
Now that should do it with the introduction to it, now onto the actual review! Sorry if it was a bit long there!
Story- 10 Just like the original game, the story is placed out perfectly. The movie doesn't leave anything out and makes the plot detailed and laid out in an efficient and comprehensive way. If you look at the beginning, there is a prologue that tells about the original Final Fantasy 7, so the viewers would get lost in the plot. I could name off many other things, but, this is a spoiler-free review so, on to the next category!
Graphics-10 This movie is a 100% FMV, but it almost looks real! The ground, sky, and objects are so detailed, it's hard to tell the difference between real and animation.
Music- 10 Everything tune from the original game has been revised for the movie, but that just made it better, like the original battle theme has been perfectly revised in piano tune.
Voice Acting-10 Everyone sounds like they should be sounding like.
Overall- 10 I think this is a great movie that really makes a good sequel to a great game. If you don't believe me, go watch it for yourself!
Rent or Buy- Buy
Fin.
