SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo
Review by CstevenJ
"NEWS FLASH VI - Fun with 1, fun with 15"
SOCOM is the video game based on missions of a United States Navy SEAL. The game itself is fun and involves stealth combat and sneaky moves to get your way to a hostage or disable a radio. Whatever you are trying to do, the same techniques can be used time and time again to trick the AI into thinking you're in one area when you could be in another.
Sound - The sound of the game (mostly sound effects unless you are at the menu/title screen or you have just beaten a level) are good in the game. The sounds of strafing through water or sniping an enemy are quite accurate to real noises.
Graphics - The graphics of SOCOM are good for a PSP. They show off good gun, human, and area detail.
Story - The story mode takes you through Chile, Northern Africa (Morocco, to be specific), South Asia, and Poland fighting terrorists to help save the countries of interest. The story mode can be repeated many times and still is found to be a fun game time and time again for me.
Weapon Variety - SOCOM on the PSP has excellent weapon variety. You can use standard machine guns to uzi-type weapons along with Sniper Rifles, a shotgun, grenades, flash bangs, and rocket launchers. To help along the campaign and instant action modes, you can use scopes and silencers attached to most of your weapons.
Online Play - The online play is an excellent feature on SOCOM. It allows you to play with up to fifteen people at a time from anywhere around the world, and you can even play with an optional microphone headset, to talk with your teammates and help make a strategy to eliminate the other team as fast and as easy as possible. The online mode has fun versions of the game like extraction (save the hostages), demolition (plant a bomb in enemy territory), suppression and captive (defeat everyone on the other team), and free for all. You can also play games with a respawn mode, giving you either ten, thirty, or sixty seconds to come back into the game if you die. Grenades prove to be very useful, as well as the many stealth techniques you've learned throughout campaign and instant action. Along with the many modes to play in, you can play in many levels, most of which do not appear in campaign or in instant action.
Other Options - I definitely recommended to read the tutorials in the game. They help you out in getting used to the game and making the game a lot easier for yourself to beat. They are also good to know when trying to play with some of the online players.
