Tenchu: Time of the Assassins
Review by Moonsummit
"As good as time title sounds? Hmm..."
Honestly, I try to keep my reviews as neutral as possible. And I tried to be as generous as I can to this game whilst reviewing. But the bottom line is: this game doesn't cut it. Why you ask? Here is why...
Graphics: 8/10
Very solid graphics here. Nothing I can really criticize here. BUT this is merely looking at graphics, no camera angles, nothing about effects or anything similar. Fairly close to Metal Gear graphics on the PSP. The moves and skills you do with your character suits the graphics and there won't be any parts where you have no idea what is happening.
Storyline: 6/10
I hate how they did this. Basically every character has their own storyline. And the best part is, there are about 20 characters! That's good right? Naw... well it would be good, if you knew what was happening. The storylines have nothing to do with the actual mission. You will be thinking... "Hmm... I have to get herbs for the Princess... so why on earth am I running around killing thugs as a mission?".
Gameplay: 3/10
I'm sorry, but isn't this supposed to be an ASSASSIN game? It doesn't feel that way at all I'm afraid. All you have to do is run inside, jump around, and then stab them a few times. Woot! I beat the boss! The Camera angle is also pathetic, you can see about 2 metres infront of you ingame, after that, it's all black fog no matter where you are. The enemies will see you before you know what on earth is happening. The gameplay rating I gave is lower than what it should be simply because the title of the game doesn't suit how you actualy play. It should be something like Tench: Time of the Samurais or something.
Sound: 7/10
The environment sound is actualy ok. But the enemies say the same thing over and over again. You see a Guard he says "I'm gonna get you!". That's ok, but what happens if EVERY guard you see says that? Ugh... it really get's on your nerves.
Overall: 5/10
I'm sorry, but this could have potentially been an amazing game. But unfortunately, it got stamped down due to small mistakes.
Pros:
*Cool moves
*Ninjas and Samurais
*Nice Combat
*Lots of characters
*Lots of skills
Cons
*Gets old fast
*TERRIBLE camera angle
*It isn't Ninja-like at all
*Annoying music
*All the enemies look very similar
