X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse
Review by Metal_Shendu
"Enjoyable"
X-Men Legends II has a long but simple storyline. One particular mention is the AL computers. The game controls three characters of your choice (Magneto, Wolverine etc) with great use. These guys help you greatly as they beat up the bad guys with ease.
The PSP version of this game is obviously slower than it's Playstation 2 and GameCube counterparts. But it features just as much as the big consoles and, arguably, more addictive because of the gameplay in a portable console.
There are a wide amount of characters to choose from as the X-Men and the Brotherhood team up to fight Apocalypse. There are also loads of abilities to choose from. You can level up these abilities as the game goes on. Some are attacking moves like Magneto's Levitation attack and some serve you to keep you alive, like Storm's flying.
The game makes good use of controls on the PSP. Considering that the Playstation 2 has two (or four if you count the R3 and L3 buttons) extra buttons. For example, you can only shortcut four abilities at a time, on the PS2 you use L1, R1, L2 and R2 to use these shortcuts. On the PSP you have to hold the R button and press either triangle, X, O or square to use the abilities.
Because the PSP has only one control stick the game's camera is automatic. This can be rather annoying as you're running down the screen and you get hit by an enemy, other than that, the camera is no problem at all.
The game has a fairly long lifespan. With lots of unlockables like comics. And a lengthy storyline keeps you playing for a couple of weeks.
The Graphics for this game on the PSP is great. It also only a bit less in quality than the Playstation 2 version. The downside is that the characters look a bit fuzzy.
The sound is nothing amazing but it is not annoying ether. The voice acting is quite poor. Some of the voices fit in quite well (Professor X, Juggernaut) while some don't (Toad with a British accent).
So overall, it's a good game, I would advise it if you like superheroes even a little bit. If you are going to get, get it on the PSP if you have one. But if you are impatient, get it on the Playstation 2 or the GameCube.
