Gun Showdown
Review by darkfir
"One major flaw."
Story- The story is set in the mid 1800s, you play as Colton White a young man who is seeking revenge for his murdered father. Not the most original story ever, but the top-notch cut scenes help the story a lot. The setting is what really make GUN so appealing. My score-7
Gameplay- GUN is a free roaming game with a massive world to explore, but not much to do. Don't be fooled by the screenshots, GUN is a very linear action game. The story is played through a series of missions. During the course of a mission, you have to complete objectives like defending an area, escorting an ally, setting an ambush, or simply kill everyone. Meeting objective is usually easy, since the game tells you exactly what to do and where to go. The only time I found myself retrying is with timed missions, thanks to the frustrating controls riding your horse is a pain. The game suffers from difficulty level, GUN is so easy my five years old brother can finish it in a weekend. The enemy AI is not so bad, but Colton is overpowered. You can basically use Quickdraw (Bullet-time) to kill every single enemy in a matter of seconds. They should have made this move available only when at critical situation (low health). Also, health recovery items and ammo are scattered throughout the game. Sometimes its nice to run out of ammunition, or run low on health, since it forces you to use strategy. (using stealth weapons, or taking cover etc) My score-8
Value- When you are not in a mission you can do side-missions, like keep peace in town , deliver this item from point A to point B. The reward is a stat boost (Stamina, melee etc) and money. With the money you earn you can purchase parts to enhance your weapons. This version has more weapons, and items. They have added five more missions as well. But the game is still short, you can finish it in ten hours if you play it at the hardest difficulty level. My score-5
Visual- GUN is easily the most gorgeous looking game on the PSP. The developers put a lot of detail into the characters models and buildings. The main characters show a great deal of personality in the cut scenes. However, some less impressive environments like the deserts and mountains could use more details. The lack of NPCs is really disappointing, empty towns just don't look so realistic. My score-9
BUY/RENT- Rent. Don't get me wrong, I loved GUN it's a great game, but its just too short even for an action game. After you finish the main story, there is literally nothing to do. The replay value is non existent. Final score-7
