Power Stone Collection
Review by Anynonymous3
"Is this game really the ****? FIND OUT NOW!!!"
This is one of those times that I wish the score was kept until the end so that the suspense would be held until then. But now you know what I'm giving this game and it just ruins everything. Oh, well. See why!
First things first, there are two games within one: Power Stone(which I will now call PS) and Power Stone 2(and this obviously PS2. shut up). (I should also add "collection" to this list, as it is a selection.) These games used to be on the Dreamcast, and really are two of the best games for it. If Dreamcast was a pimp, these two games would be his best *****es. These were also arcade games, but I highly doubt you'll see it over here in America. There are also added extras into both games, so look forward to those as well. Anyway, now that that's cleared, let's go on with the review.
In PS, each character has his or her own reasons as to why they are searching for thses "power stones". The story is very loosely told (and intro, and ending), but as I said before, this used to be an arcade game, so it's reminiscent to Tekken in that manner. The same basically goes for PS2, except that the endings were taken out for some reason. WTF? why were they taken out? I don't know wtf they did, but it does take away from the gameplay, especially if you decided to play PS first and then expected to see more endings in the second (assuming you haven't played these games on the DC, that is). The intro to PS2 is also very weak, being told in a very cheesy fashion with a cheesy VO. So obviously, the story isn't the strong part about this game. So let''s go to the category that makes this game shine.
Gameplay
PS
Power stones. Power stones, power stones, power stones. That's the themes of this game. Shoot, that's the title of the game, literally. Both PS and PS2 have them and have a story around them. In PS, it's 1v1. Duke it out, with one main man in your focus. You have five health bars, but they go down faster than a Satanist goes to hell. You can throw tables, chairs, pictures, even pots and light posts, and much more! You can pull anything out of the background's ass and use it on your opponent. There are items, but not as many as in PS2 (Talk about that later), so the main focus of the game is to get the power stones. There are unlockable weapons in this game that are from part 2, however; the developers must have realized how little there wer eto begin with. This is one of the extras of the game. There is also a "Secret book" menu in the main menu, which helps you to keep track of what you have unlocked, and what remains to be unlocked.
Collecting three of these precious mofo's will turn your character into an unstoppable, god-like person that could turn the tables on the opposition. You have two different normal attacks that drain you "super-bar" by little, and then you have two super attacks that drain all of your bar (boo-hoo). Those super attacks take a bite out of your health bars I mentioned earlier, than drain faster than my life whilst smoking.
A new mode added to the game was rear mode. No, you don't look at your character's ass (well...). But you have this RE4 type of camera that switches everything around. It only makes the game harder. I can't even comprehend wtf Capcom would put this in here. I think RE4's camera's recognition is getting to their heads.
Did I mention the hard ass boss at the end of the game that doesn't know the meaning of "Chill on the cheezin' dude!"? Well,I did now. the A.I. is plays like a normal person is on the other side of screen. The announcer doesn't make it better, that cheesy barf-bag.
In a nutshell, this game is your typical arcade-game-to-console game. whether you enjoy it or not depends on your ability to hold in that special word you want to yell as the computer cheeses you for the 10th time. Plus, if your friends has a PSP, you can let him download a demo version of this game.
That's PS fer ya. In PS2, the focus is more or less on the items.
PS2
This is more of a party game, one of Capcom's best genres. And it shows, as this was made in about 2002, and it still occupies my time. Once again, if you have friends, you can play with three others in a versus mode, or give them a demo of the game. The characters from the first game are all here, plus more, giving the game a standard total of 12 to mess around with. There are extra characters, but I'd rather not ruin your game.
You can try the 1v1 mode (which is lame as hell), the 3v1 mode (which replaced the "arcade mode", it's still the same thing though), and the adventure mode, which is how you collect items and such, without having to buy them. You also collect money in this mode, which will be very valuable to you when you hit the Item shop. Yep this game has it all. More on that right now.
The item shop is your haven from the fights in the game. you can spend hours here for one reason and one reason only. and that's the mixing system. once you get all the items that you can from adventure mode the first time 'round, come here and mix them. I guarantee that you'll be there for about 30 mins. You can also buy items, sell items, and even give the shopkeeper an item or two (hint: you'll get something out of it if you do ;)). The rest you'll have to figure out yourself.
This is the best part about this game. There are over 130 toys for you to play around with in this game, each (most rather) with its own unique abilities. From umbrellas to toy hammers, rabbit tails to crowns, you can use them all. (Oh, I should mention before the rest, some items are worn rather than used to cause pain on enemies. Like the crown and rabbit tail I mentioned earlier.) This adds some .... what ever... to the game. It's nice to dress my character like a total ass and then pwn someone.
The music in the game is bland. I got tired of some tracks, but other sort of stuck around in my mind. Sounds are generic, you'll here many of the same sounds again, and again, and again. It's gets horrible after a while and you just want to turn the volume off and play it that way.
The controls are in the damn book. Yes, they are good.
Overall, I loved this game for the DC. Since I don't play y DC anymore (or rather, occasionally), I liked the idea of playing this game on the go. This is definitely a keeper that should surprise you every time you pop it into your PSP, if you've never had the game. If you still play the DC one, about 8 new items won't give a **** to you if you own all of them from the previous one. I give it a 9 out of 10, fellas
