SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo

Review by fillup0

"Socom FTB - Worth your purchase? Yes."

I have never played any other socom game apart from this one. Why did I buy it? Because I bought a router. And this is the reason to go wireless. Now before I describe everything, I will describe SOCOM FTB online. This throws veichles out of the window. So it plays like SOCOM 2 does. (I have never played it, but I heard it has no veichles) But is that a bad thing? No. The on foot shootery will work very well. And the game has very little lag. The only lag I ever seen was when joining a game late, I saw somebody warp five yards down the stairs. A problem I first had while playing this game was the communications. But I fixed that by enabling DMZ. Another good thing is the variety of modes. Extract is my favorite mode. But it ain't popular enough. Captive has some straightforward fun Especially if you realize you are losing because the terrorists are using stealth to outsmart you. Then you have to re-think your approach. "Do I throw in an explosive to see if I take out some sneaking terrorists? Or do I use our sniper points?" so online matches are an awful lot of fun.

The single player game, isn't quite as good as online. Not as much fun. But the single player game is more based on stealth than the online game. Fist things are that you have a buddy. He does whatever you say. So instead of him killing a terrorist thatis in a room, you tell him to throw a flashbang and take the enemy in for questioning. The game also has Ad=hoc multi player. Not as exciting as the online, but you can still have a laugh with 15 mates on it.

Now the variety of missions is great. But the real heat here is the options in multiplayer. If you connect this game with SOCOM 3 you get some secret characters and guns. The graphics are OK, but nothing terrific. Because sometimes the areas look bland. The sound is a bit samey, but the music is brilliant. There is some more to this game that could take me ages to explain. So lets rate the game and judge if it is worth a purchase.

Graphics: 7/10

Some ugly warzones. Ahh what the hell. Characters still look good.

Sound: 7/10

Samey sounds, backed up by brilliant music.

Gameplay: 8/10

The single player is quite samey, but the heart of the game is still brilliant. By heart I mean the shootery and feel. The controls are not that straightforward, but after a few plays, I felt in love with 'em.

Multiplayer: 10/10

The heat of the game, which makes it endless!

Lifespan: 10/10

Lots to do, but multiplayer really does back it up.

Overall: This game does the series proud. Well worth 10/10.

Rent or buy? If you have a router, buy this thing now. If you don't, go to blockbusters.
