Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy
Review by laxman15
"Good for the first hour or so... Then you just want to burn it."
Overview: Lego Star Wars. Sounds like fun the first time you hear it. The first of the series I believe was great, but this sequel lacked some qualities. As I said, this game was absolutely great for the first few hours, but then it got extremely boring.
Gameplay: 5/10
Suprisingly to me, this category score was disappointingly low. I expected a fun game, but actually just got a large yawn. So basically, you go around through the levels, just like the previous one, and beat them while trying to collect "studs" or ten of those "minikits." With the studs you can purchase chracters and cheats from the lobby. There are mainly two ways to beat a level, freeplay or storymode. Storymode, of course, focuses on the storyline of the movie. Freeplay is where you can play through the level using a handfull of the characters you unlocked.
If you've played the first one, you'll find this game very repetitive and contains the same run through. If you haven't, this may be an okay game. Anyways, as I said, there were many missing qualities such as; missing characters, no interaction between characters in the lobby, and no spark to jazz up things.
I was extremely angry when I noticed that Darth Maul was no longer a playable character. Then I found out that there were no characters running around in the main lobby. I wanted to mess around with all the characters I unlocked in the lobby, but instead I found no Luke or Chewie. The new features such as creating were own characters was nice and the humor from it was cool, but not enough to make this an exciting and worth-while game.
Story: 6/10
Well there isn't much of a story, it's just the same thing as the Star Wars movies.
Sound: 7/10
The music is okay, but it just gets repetitive and seems to be the exact same song through every level. The sound effects, such as the swing of a lightsaber or explosions were fine. The only reason I gave the sound a pretty good score was that I enjoyed how the characters didn't talk. It was funny.
Graphics: 7-8/10
I'm not much of a graphics guy, so the graphics of a game wouldn't very much ruin the experience. But, for those who care, the graphics were pretty good, but hey, its the PSP. You shouldn't expect that much from a handheld. There weren't many distracting glitches in the graphics, so the graphics were fine for me.
Tilt: 5 for the ones who have played the first game and 9 for the ones who haven't
For the ones who have played- Nothing much new found here. The new features are okay, but not amazing. When I went around playing, I tried my hardest to collect all of the studs. I ended up earning enough to purchase the invincible cheat, making everything boring and pointless. There are loads of hours to unlocking new things, maybe 20 hours tops, but just gets boring and pointless since it seems as if you've played this already.
For the ones who haven't played the first one- This could be fun and addicting since you are not gong through a rerun. This game would have great features and much to unlock.
Overall: 6/10
The new features could not have saved ths game from going boring. The missing qualities and many hours of complete boredom made me trade in this game. I would say to rent this game and see if it is worth your time. By playing the first Lego Star Wars, this sequel was boring and repetitive and was not worth the $51.92. But for those who did not play the 1st game, this game might actually be fun and contain loads of new features and many hours of gameplay. This is my first review so don't hate me if you don't like it.
