"A weak follow up to an enjoyable original"

I'm a fan of the original Untold legends game. I thought it was very simple to play, looked pretty good and I actually found it rather addictive. So I was very excited over this sequel. Does it improve upon the original which most people disliked or is it a weaker game? Read on!

Our story begins with our hero heading into the sewers to stop something or other. From there he heads out into the world and helps different tribes or groups or whatever. The plot is almost not there and the tasks seem to repeat themselves so I really wasn't interested in this games story.

Graphic wise this game looks alright. Everything looks a bit murky but if you hold out and get at least half way through the game you'll notice some really nice water effects and a few other things. Character models look okay but a bit blurry.

The sound in the game is pretty average. Okay voice work but it never really stuck out. The music felt uninspired. The sound effects were pretty good though. Grunts and zaps and what not.

The game has an even more sloppy control system than the first game. The d-pad is all special skills. You also have your other buttons as skills except X is just your normal attack. R trigger lets you use healing items. To turn the camera you need to hold L and move it with the d-pad. It's slow and sloppy. Menu navigation isn't much better and feels like more of a mess.

Warriors Code is like any other hack and slash RPG. You run around an area, killing guys and finding the exit or task. It's fairly simple and the game does do a nice job of guiding you where to go.

At the start of the game you can pick from a few different races. They all have different stats and are meant to be played in different ways. Their transformations are all different as well. As you level up you can put points to skills and to your stats. It's all in your hands but one wrong move and you can be in trouble.

The locations tend to be either wide open outdoor areas or tight temple areas that all look the same. The enemies will gang up on you or they will attack one by one. It seems random with the AI. There are some enemies with long range attacks that do hit and run tactics which become a pain in the butt.

You can still only carry so much weight and you can still store so many items but the menus for this are sloppy and poorly done. The weapons and their stats seem to differ too greatly and I found it more confusing when they can have an attack ranging from 16-32 but then you can have one that's 17-20. So which do you want really? Who knows and it doesn't seem to matter and just because it has better stats doesn't mean it's a better weapon.

The game is rather long and to be honest I was so bored with it that I didn't play it for over a year and I didn't even realize I was so close to the end of the game. It also features on-line play but by this point not a lot of people are there and it seems that they rarely actually play and that it all feels more like a chat room.

I honestly can't recommend this game. It's my biggest regret purchase. It's in no way better than the original except it offers on-line play. The story is bad, the locations are boring and the slightly long load times don't help matters. Also, the mission structure is poor with way too many repeat missions. The entire game feels tedious.
