Burnout Dominator
Review by ultimatehealer
"Great Game and for replay value you just can't go wrong."
Just to understand Burnout for those who haven't tried it before. Burnout is the type of game you play for the thrills and the honest fun destroying your competition. The game has very little basis in the real world but as long as you aren't one of the guys who always screamed "That wouldn't happen in real life!" while watching the Fast and Furious, then you will really like it.
Graphics: 9/10
The graphics have improved some from Burnout Legends which will tell you that they are already very great. The backgrounds have improved some, as has the traffic, which is no easier to see.
Sound: 4/10
The first four points go to the actual car revving sounds and other screeching sounds that make the actual effects nice. The six missing points go the music that EA choose to put into the game which is horrible.
Controls: 9/10
The controls are nearly perfect. Assuming again you don't care about reality, to drift you just press square to break and then slam on the gas. This game has added in two components that make this game better then the last PSP game. The first being that after you crash, you can go into after touch by holding down the R trigger and try to move your car into the way of your opponents to take them out along with you. The bonus here is that if they are close to you but not close enough to hit, you can press triangle and your car explodes, and you can engulf them in the flames. Also this game added boost chaining in which if you do enough crazy things like, drifting, smashing opponents, and riding towards oncoming traffic, you can earn back your boost and ride long chains of boosts to help you either catch up or to help you keep the lead.
My one problem with the controls is probably mainly focused on the way I play it. In order to use drifting effectively you have to be able to press the break button and keep going very quickly, so I wind up holding my left thumb pressed down against X and hovering over square, which tends to hurt after a short while. However, when I try to do the button jumping the moment just isn't fast enough.
Replay Value: 10/10
The fact that I still bust out Burnout Legends and this game whenever I get bored, should tell you that it is very addictive. It is always fun to be able to go a few matches in the various modes ranging from regular races to my favorite mode which is road rage in which your goal is to take out as many racers as possible in the time given.
Overall: 9/10
This along with Burnout Legends has become one of my most played games on the PSP. Burnout Legends is still a solid game though so if this game is still expensive by all means pick up the other game. The main fault with this game is the music. Beyond the only other faults that I found were actually very minor things that were surprisingly well taken care of in Burnout Legends, like the fact that in Burnout Dominator there isn't any easy retry button at the end of a race. Other then that though really its a great game and well worth trying out.
