Dungeon Maker: Hunting Ground

Review by IMRavnos

"Decent game that 'should' have been great"

This game is very fun. However it's a typical case of "could have been great". The graphics are overly simplistic, the dungeon pieces are not especially fun to look at and the way the game plays out is decent but not great.

The combat is mediocre, it's not horrid like a lot of games, but it's also not very fun either. There are around a dozen or so combat spells and maybe a dozen weapons to use. They all feel different but it's your typical Press 'O' to attack press 'O - O - O' for a combo and press 'Triangle' for a power attack. Very basic.

Overall if you own a PSP and were ever one of those D&D types who always had graph paper at hand and would draw out dungeons for fun or to use in play, you'll dig this game but prolly won't fall in love with it.

If your looking for an Action RPG, unless you don't mind mediocrity with a fun twist of building dungeons, stear clear.

If the graphics were more like Tales of the World or Monster hunter Freedom, this game would be a lot better, however the graphics are ultra simplistic and everything is just too small to appreciate the details, not that the details are impressive at all.

The "city" you live in is comprised of an Armor shop ( weapons and armor ) a magic shop ( two Incestual sisters who sell weak items , MP potions and spell books ) a Build shop ( where you buy peices for your dungeon ) an apothecary ( where you buy potions to heal your HP and where you end up if you die in your dungeon ) the Castle ( where you can earn titles based upon number of monsters killed, each title gets you a magic ring of the same name i.e. Warrior = Warrior Ring ) the town plaze ( where you have a buyer and a market - the buyer will buy ANYTHING and the market will buy/sell items used in cooking and used to upgrade branches which are like magic modifiers for your weapons. There is also a Museum that tracks items, accessories, weapons, armor and creatures, then there is your home, where you Sleep and eat. You must eat once per day and you usually sleep after your daily visit to the dungeon [ [ [ you can only enter your dungeon ONCE PER DAY ]]] that's in game days not real world days THANK GOD.

Overall this title could have been a masterpiece but at every turn the developer settled for mediocrity instead of quality.

7/10
