Dungeon Maker: Hunting Ground
Review by drakiller22
"Fun, unique game but gets repetitive"
After reading up on this game, I decide to get it. Upon playing this game, I was immediately hooked on. I played for hours straight but eventually grew bored of it. Why? Well read on.
Story: 5/10
The main character you move in this game wants to defeat the Wandering Demon. But in order to do so, you must create a massive dungeon to attract it and to kill it.
Game Play: 9/10
Well here is where this game owns other games. To build your dungeon, you need to buy rooms and corridors. Then you let your imagination run wild while making your dungeon as elaborate and confusing as you can to attract more and stronger monsters. As you continue to build, monsters come into your dungeon and you kill them for money and equipment. Then you use this money to continue building your dungeon. This sounds great at first but it gets repetitive if you do this for 20 floors, but for some, it is really enjoyable.
Battle: 6/10
Building the dungeon is not the only thing that gets boring after a while. The battle with monster is real time. You can use two buttons to attack and pressing them in a row causes you to do a combo. There is also several types of weapon you can choose from: dagger, sword, staff, bow, axe, mace, etc. Of course like all games, the dagger is the fastest while axe and mace is slow but cause tremendous damage.
In a battle, you can keep on smashing your attack buttons to defeat the monsters. Its not that hard really. The monsters move and attack incredibly slow, so you can go behind them and hit them several times before they realize it. Also as you advance down more floors, you find it a lot easier to cast magic. Its kinda cheap but it blows away the enemies and even the bosses. For the first few boss, you can just cast magic over and over til its dead. Not really fun and challenging if you ask me.
Graphic: 7/10
Well the graphic is pretty decent for a psp game. Its not mind blowing but not painful to look at. I only wish your character was more customizable. He wears the same thing all the time no matter what you equip except for your weapon and shield.
Control and Camera: 9/10
Well no problem with these two. Its not like monster hunter where you end up seeing the wall when your cornered. Control is pretty straight forward and easy to learn.
Overall: 8/10
For me, this is a love-hate game. You hate it but you can't put it down. It gets repetitive but you still want the go to the next floor and find new weapons. But seriously, this game is great and I recommend playing it. Although many might not have heard of this game, it should be.
