Worms: Open Warfare

Review by drakiller22

"Wheres the holy hand grenade?!"

I've been a big fan of worms ever since I played Worms Armageddon. When it came out for the psp, I had high hopes for it since it brought me countless hours of fun on the PC. But boy, was I wrong.

Game Play: 7/10

Well for the worms fan, the game play is pretty much the same. You command a group of worms to shoot another group. It is turn based so only one worm can move at one time. Its almost the same as the online game Gunbound.

For single player mode, there is the challenge mode, which I wouldn't call a challenge at all. The A.I. could be improved and it is not nearly as hard as the challenges in the PC. Within a couple of hours, you could go through the entire 20 challenges and beaten the game. But do you get anything when you beat the game? Absolutely nothing. No unlockables, yes that means no secret stage, nor secret weapons. But worst of all, the game doesn't even tell you that you have beaten it. Just after you finish the game, then thats that.

Now multi-player, was also a disappointment. If you want to play with a friend, there is two ways. One is to have two separate psp with each a copy of the worms game. The other way is to share the psp and pass the psp around when it is your turn. This is pretty annoying since you can't see what you friends are doing (sometimes even playing your turn).

Weapons: 5/10

I was extremely disappointed in the lack of weapons. They took out my favorite one, the holy hand grenade. Not only that one, they took out the Priceless Ming vase, Super Banana Bomb, Super Sheep, and much more. You only get the basic weapons with the Banana Bomb being the strongest.

Graphic and Sounds: 8/10

Same as all other worms game. Nothing new here. For your worm team, you can set up different accents and voices for them. This can get you a chuckle here and now when your in a heated battle.

Replay Value: 3/10

Unless you like playing alone with the computer all the time, this game is pretty boring. My copy of this game has been on the shelf for quite some time. Occasionally, I would play it with some friends but its really not that much fun. If you want real fun multi-player, get some PC worms where you can actually see everything on the map without squinting.

Overall: 6/10

Well overall, this game is a little above average. But Worms 2 is coming out for the psp, and that looks more promising then this one. What I recommend? Wait for the Worms 2 or just rent this game. Its not worth buying.
