Mega Man Maverick Hunter X
Review by drakiller22
"A classic game revived for the psp"
Back on the SNES, I would put countless hours into Megaman X replaying it over and over. Megaman X also started a great series on the SNES and the first one of the series was remade for the psp. When I first got my psp, this game was coming out, so it was my first psp game. Thinking it was like the SNES one, it was like that, but a lot better. I'm usually disappointed at remakes since company tend to just port it for easy cash. But this game is truly a great remake for the old classic.
Game Play: 10/10
If you played the SNES Megaman X, it is exactly the same thing. If not, then let me explain. This 2D side scrolling game have you move the main character Megaman. You only have one cannon on your arm to blast the enemies away. As with other Megaman games, when you defeat a boss, you gain their powers.
As for the levels, you run through the level avoiding the spikes and gunning down the enemies. Also, as you blast your ways through the levels, there are many power upgrades. Finding them will make your life easier and treasure hunting is always fun. Its the same as any other Megaman game, but thats what makes it so fun.
Story: 9/10
Well for the story, its not that new. Megaman must save the city from Sigma and his henchmen. But the game includes a short anime on the story before the game starts. And there are some nice cut scenes in the game which makes the story flow nicely.
Controls: 10/10
There are no problems here. The buttons are pretty straight forward so new players should grasp it pretty fast. What was new to me was the analog stick. You could also use that to move Megaman, but I like the directional buttons since I'm use to it.
Graphic and Sounds: 9/10
What makes this remake sweet is the 3D graphics. They have been totally redone and it looks amazing. The music is very upbeat and voices can be heard when the characters talk. There are also the cut scenes and the anime part in this game. It is also nicely done.
Replay Value: 8/10
You can probably beat this game in one sitting but that doesn't mean its over. There are many unlockables such as the armor, sub-tank, and the famous Hadoken move. That should give your more hours of fun, but if thats not enough, you can also play as Vile. Vile has his own story as well as his own weapons. I found playing Vile more fun than Megaman for this huge amount of weapons to choose from. Also there is a small Megaman Power Up demo so you can try as well.
Overall: 9/10
This game is wonderful. If you played the SNES, get this one as well. If your new to Megaman, I highly recommend this game. It will have you missing the good old days when you played this as a kid. Rent or buy? It is your choice of course. If you want to try this game, rent it to see if its your type. But if you want a great Megaman game that will last you longer than this, try Megaman Power Up. Hopefully Capcom will continue to release more games from the Megaman X series for the psp.
