ATV Offroad Fury Pro

"An improvement over the original PSP title"
I enjoyed the original Off-road Fury game on the PSP despite the long load times. I know this sequel is almost a year old but I gave it a rent and I must say it wasn't what I was expecting. Is that a good or bad thing? Read on!
The original PSP title looked excellent. This game has taken a small downgrade in the graphics department. Not too noticeable but I could tell. Animations are good but the levels themselves have slightly bad draw distance. Besides that some of the spots in the maps kind of pop into place. Smoothing them out ECT. Kind of a disappointing considering how pleasing to the eyes the original was.
The sound in the game is nice. The vehicles sound nice, even if most sound the same. The music selection is a nice mix of rap, hip hop and some rock. Got to love any soundtrack that offers Lost Prophets and bands like them.
The other game had very responsive controls. This game, while responsive, it's also very loose. It took me a few hours to get the hang of how floaty the control are and in a racing game it is kind of a problem. Think of an arcade game but looser and you'll have a vague idea of how it all controls.
Like the other games in the series you pick the event you want to enter and try and get first place. Getting first nets you cards, money and other bonuses. It's nice to always be rewarded for doing well.
Each event is a race. They all have their own vehicle type and there is a good amount of races or freestyle events. The tracks themselves are interesting in design and the outdoors ones were very nicely done. They are also fairly long. Some being about two minutes per lap and all races being 5 laps long.
This time around we get to drive atvs, bikes, snowmobiles and buggies. It's an interesting idea and while they all handle kind of differently, not all are that fun. The buggy is one I found to be kind of annoying to drive with as it felt bulking and turns ended in a sloppy manner.
There's a lot of races in the game with about 36 tracks and all of the different vehicle types. Plus I believe the game can be played against others so that's always a plus as well. The game has shorter load times than the previous game and more content so it is a beefier title.
The game is worth picking up if you like the series and you need a new racer for the PSP. It's a pretty good game over all but there are a few problems here and there with control and the graphics have taken a minor step down. If you're still on the fence about the game then give it a rent as most rental places do carry it.
