Tekken: Dark Resurrection
Review by Jerrythefunguy
"it's like playing Tekken 5 in the palms of your hands"
Graphics - I was so amazed it looked like the PS2 version of Tekken 5 and even moved like the PS2 version of Tekken 5 so I was very shocked that this game was like Tekken 5 with out being 60fps but still it runs as good as its old cousin and its one of the best lookin fighting game you'll ever see on the PSP but then there was smaller poly counts diffrences but there still so tiny to even tell I mean even a close up there faces there clothing looks Extemely detailed for PSP game and I love Namco for doing us a beautiful looking Tekken game even though the stages are from Tekken 5 but there just inverted meaning that some day stages are night stages with a few new stages that looks awesome of disbielieve that this tiny small handheld can deliever these beautiful graphics for this games, so Im happy that it looks perfect as the Arcade port which is just Tekken 5.1 with 2 new characters which they both look perfect for the Tekken series.
Graphics- 10
Sound/Music - Some stage music still isnt as worth listening to like the theme song from Forest Law from Tekken 3 which was an awesome song but theres only a few new songs that do fit for the new stages but I just wish that they had the old Tekken 3 music in there and the Tekken 5 soundtrack isnt in this version except for one stage so all the stages are all new songs that can sound a bit annoying and some of it can sounds a bit out of place like for example the tittle screen music which is very generic for a AAA game like this they couldnt put the effort of sounding it bad @$$ which is how the gameplay is for this game or they should of used a licence song from a real artist to make the theme song or stages with the generic sound to it, so for me the music in Dark Resurrection is mix bag of a little good and a lot of bad tunes which I was surprise from a Tekken franchise.
Sound/Music - 7
Gameplay- What can I say about the gameplay its basically a carbon copy of the PS2 but then with using the PSP D-pad its not that great to execute the moves as perfect as if it was on a PS2/PS3 controller so it if you are a real nit- picker when it comes to your Characters moves you might be disappointed that the PSP D-pad is not meant for making a good half circle movement and that can lead to making mistakes if you mastered the controls on the PS2 version of Tekken so hopefully if the newer PSP D-pad they fix it as it was the same as the PS2 d-pad and using the stick would be a bit akeward to pull any move off so just moves that dont dont required down foward movement because it may lead your thumb to injury but thats about it so the game moves and feels right but dont play the game to long or your wrist would feel some discomfort and the edges would give a rub burn on your middle finger from an hour playing.
gameplay - 8
Replay Value- This is were it shine, just like Tekken 5 you need to earn gold in this game to buy your fighters items of what they might wear or have weird animals or strange things to wear which can make your fighter as unique as possible but the item are limited and some are from Tekken 5 but theres a lot of new stuff that DR has you would like it better then Tekken 5 items and then agian you have to earn your money in arcade battle and also Rank your fighters which also has newer rankings but then agian the AI is so heavy in this game that it would make you nuts to achieve Tekken Lord or the newest Dark Lord but it depends if you want to rank and get money in this new Dojo which is Actually pretty fun and very challenging which can make your fighter from a beginner rank all the way up to a deity in matter of hours but very painful hours so this game have a lot and they brought back Tekken Bowl which this version only has a few less features and feels a bit lack in terms of detail but its still a way to calm down after a hard match of ranking to just ease back and start bowling.
Replay Value - 10
overall a 9 so far the best Tekken game that can deliever so much replay value in a small portable System
