Monster Hunter Freedom 2
Review by rubsnick
"Giant monstes galore"
Ever dream of killing giant dragons? Ever dream of killing a giant monkey perhaps? Ever dream about killing a giant unicorn? Well if you have then this game is for you. In Monster Hunter Freedom 2 you go around killing monsters left and right carving there carcasses for items to make better weapons and armor. Sounds simple right? Wrong this game will tare you apart if you're a newb. The monsters are three times faster then you, five times stronger and about 25 dumber then you. You need to use your mind in this game a lot devise a strategy to beat the monster easily but that will still take you a long time. In this game you will rack up about 100 hours if you enjoy it, if you love it that's a whole other story. Now down to the review of Monster Hunter Freedom 2 (MHF2)
Graphics: 9/10
The graphics for this game are outstanding, some of the best I've seen on the PSP in a long time (well since Monster Hunter Freedom 1) The graphics aren't really changed from that first one but that doesn't mean they are bad since Monster Hunter Freedom 1 has incredible graphics also.
Story: 1/10
The story is almost nonexistent. You're this Hunter who was called to Protect this village since the old Hunter got injured and well can't hunt anymore. On your way to the village this giant dragon knocks you off the side of a cliff. Turns out the Hunter who called you found you and took you to your home. That's basically the story for the game you go around hunting various animals and stuff with no real ending. Oh and the Quest have little Messages that add to the story of why you are doing that particular quest. For example some guy goes gathering in the desert with his crew and this giant crab stops them and you have to kill it so they can continue. That's all there is to the story really.
Sound: 10/10
The sounds are basically the same as the first but the first had incredible sound. Put some headphones on and you'll feel like you are right there fighting that dragon. There is some music when you're fighting the monster but you really don't pay attention to it but it does set the mood and doesn't get in the way. Once you're on your 100th slash of the thing you forget about it since you're to busy listening to the Monsters roaring, dodging attacks and just trying to survive.
Game play: 9/10
This is where the game really shines, You start out with these starter weapons: Hammer, War Horn, Sword and Shield, Dual Swords, Long Sword, Great Sword, Bow Gun, Bow, Lance, and Gun Lance. Each weapons has its weakness and strength
Good news for you old monster hunter players You can also import your old save and get items and money from what you have in your Monster Hunter Freedom 1 inventory, the downside is well you only get items which rarity is ranked 3 or lower and you can't change your name.
Now the meat of the game is in the Quest, each quest is different and you have different types of quest. The quest are divided in the following type's:
Gathering- you go around looking for the item that they sent you to look for and deliver it back to the base
Hunt- you either kill of Capture the monster(s) they tell you to.
Slay- Kill what they tell you to kill
Those are the main types of quest in this game you go around doing that and making better weapons and armor to kill the next thing monster, rinse and repeat and your hours will go by in a flash.
Now for you're character, You have a Health Bar and a Stamina Bar, You eat Rations or Steaks to raise the stamina an Potions for the Heath. You're Stamina goes down after you do several activities for an extended period of time like slashing or running. The controls for your character are rather clunky but what do you expect from a guy wearing armor? But that's about my only complaint.
Multi-player: 10/10
The multi player for this game is amazing, It's the game but Multi-player, you have the same missions as the main game but you can take them on with your friend and team up and do everything just as the main game It's fun b/c it makes everything easier and well more fun.
Replay Value: 10/10
Monster Hunter Freedom 2 will last you well over 100 hours. You are constantly doing the same missions to get better armor and weapons so you can beat the next monster. Most of the quest last around 20 minutes minimum on your first try and that will rack you a lot of time also. The game's multi-player is also very good and worth all that time and effort to just go out with you friends and kill a giant dragon then dancing on its corpse. With very long missions and the need to do them more then once and the multi-player of the game this is a game that will last you well over 100 hours.
Buy or Rent: Buy
You will not get the most out of this game in one Rent so you should buy.
