Monster Hunter Freedom 2
Review by Doom Toaster
"The best MH game to date."
Ever since the very first monster hunter game for the PS2 was released back in 2004, I have been completely hooked on the monster hunter series as a whole. This game seems to shine above the others however.
Graphics: 7/10
The graphics are great for a PSP game. Some parts of the game it just seems the developers got kind of lazy on, such as the graphics in the town, but all in all, the graphics are on par with the very best for the PSP.
Difficulty: 9/10
The only reason I didn't give this part a 10/10 was that it can be so hard at times, it's just insane. Sometimes you just need to have a friend to play co-op with, and if you don't, it's a real downer. On the other hand, it's good to have a game that really challenges you to the limit. Games these days lack that oftentimes.
Controls/Camera: 8/10
I lumped these two in together because you need to manipulate the controls to get the camera right in a way that is very...... bad. Basically, to move the camera, you either hit the L button, or use the directional buttons. Not a problem, right? But when an enormous dinosaur/ Wang demon (You'll find out)/ Pink chicken/ Monster made of rocks/ Dragon/ Enormous crab is running full speed toward you, you're gonna have a problem. It takes a lot of practice to do this right. Otherwise, controls are damn near perfect.
Overall value: 11/10
This game will hook you immediately. Then hang onto you for five hundred hours of win. There are veterans of this game who have invested upwards of a thousand hours into this series. If you are looking for a game for a long car ride, something to do, it doesn't matter, You'll love monster hunter.
Notes:
Sometimes the loading can be a pain, but if you turn on background loading at the main menu, that pretty much solves it.
Some people may disagree with me on this, but I think the battery life is fine for a PSP game. If you turn off the background loading, you'll be fine.
All in all:
Even with it's minor flaws, this game never ceases to amaze me. The sheer depth of it all, with the weapons, the armor and the hundreds of hours of pure epic win are awesome. So basically, (and I might be biased) this is an awesome game, so go out and buy it. Now.
