Namco Museum Battle Collection
Review by food789
"Good arcade or bad arcade?"
Nameco Museum Battle Collection is filled with a bunch of classic arcade games, and 4 remakes of awesome ones like Pac-Man! Looks like a good buy, But is it worth the cash?
Gameplay:
First of all, you have to select either one of the reworks, or classics. With the reworked ones come a type of "World Play" where you have to beat 5 levels in a world to get to the next world, with each level looking significantly different and harder. The classics are just what you think they are, The Classics. There are a truckload of arcade games here. When you start one, a small demo of the game appears, and you have to press start to get things moving.
One thing I didn't like is that there aren't any instructions before you start a game, making the first few minutes of a game you've never heard of just figuring out the game.
Graphics:
The classic graphics have been preserved to look exactly like the original games. The reworks have nice 3D graphics (with the exeption of one) with a very smooth look. It has a very retro feel to it, with a 21st century remake.
Sound:
This has the same principals as the graphics, the classic games have all the same sounds, and the reworks have more sci-fi'ish sound to it. (For example: Pac-Man has in game music while gobbling dots, and a cool intro sound)
Play-Time/Replayability:
I'm not much of a retro junkie, so most of the retro games wont last long for hours on end, just for more casual gaming, like on a bus to work. The retro's might get old soon but they will eventually be calling your name to come crawling back to it. The reworked games will last a while, but not for 5 hours sitting in a closet.
This game will eventually crawl back into your UMD slot for some more arcade fun every once in a while, and a lot more for those arcade junkies.
Summary:
Namco Museum Battle Collection is good for those rides to work/school, but not for hardcore gaming for hours on end. The 15+ games on it is like a trip to the past which will keep you satisfied on small trips and bus rides.
Rent or buy: You should buy if you really enjoy arcade games, but rent if you are more of a casual gamer then see if you like it.
