Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters
Review by theauburntiger
"This Game Is Great, But There Is Alot Missing. and there is Alot Wrong"
Two and a half years ago, we were given the first portable Ratchet and Clank game. There was alot of hype for this game, and there was alot of prattle. This game sorta balanced out between the predictions. On with the review!
Gameplay: The gameplay, while decent, had alot missing. There is only one classic Clank section, and only one classic Giant Clank section, which you couldn't do everything you could do before. There are only 12 weapons(excluding the weapon only available in challenge mode.) There are only 10 levels, which one of them you can't replay! The gameplay itself is alright, but it too, has problems. The camera goes crazy when strafing in tight rooms. When in one of the new races, controlling Ratchet can be a hassle, as steering is way too loose, causing you to crash into a wall when you were just trying too do a small turn. Other than these problems, the gameplay is decent. There is new stuff as well, such as Clank challenges, Giant Clank challenges, new armor pieces, new skyboarding races(as mentioned above,) and a couple of new gadgets. 7/10
Story: In Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters, our favorite duo is relaxing in the beach when a little girl comes up and asks Ratchet to do some stunts for her, after which she gets kidnapped by alien robots, and the story takes off from there. While funny, and with a few plot twists, isn't that great of a story. It doesn't even compare to the stories of 1,2, or Deadlocked. 7/10
Audio: Music isn't as great as it's been in the past. It's alright, but it's not really that great. Sound Effects can be annoying, and there not like how they were in the past. voice acting is a bit silly, and sometimes even corny. Audio isn't one of the games strong points. 6/10
Graphics: There are two different kinds of graphics. Gameplay graphics and cutscene graphics. The gameplay graphics, while a bit pointy and pixelated, are still solid. Bolts and enemies are detailed well and weapon effects are cool looking(8/10.) Meanwhile, the cutscene graphics are just horrible. Considering the power of the PSP, there is no excuse for the amount if pixelation and lack of detail. Ratchet and Clank look horrible.(5/10) Overall, l have to give the graphics a 6.5/10.
Replay Value: This is the game's strongest point. Once you beat the game, you can focus on skill points(of which you get 24, you can start a new game where you don't get to save, and if you die, you have to start the whole game over again, and when you get 25, it unlocks a large secret,) you can collect titanium bolts that you can use to purchase skins, you can try to level up all of your weapons to Titan lv4, or you can try to collect any remaining armor pieces you need to collect. 10/10
Overall: I wouldn't recommend this to be the first Ratchet and Clank game that you play. I recommend playing the others first. If you are an ongoing fan of Ratchet and Clank, I recommend that you buy this used, as used copies of this game are pretty cheap nowadays. If you don't know whether to but it ir not, l recommend renting it, to ensure whether or not to buy or stay away from this game. My overall score of this game is 6.8-7/10.
