The Legend of Heroes II: Prophecy of the Moonlight Witch

"Not adventurous, but ok"

This review might be a little short, but I don't like criticizing a game, since the manufacturer spent a lot of time making it. I just put in enough information. I enjoy RPGs, but when I bought this game, I was highly disappointed. Here's why:

Story: 7/10 Slightly monotonous, 2 kids on a coming-of-age expedition to deliver a sword to a shrine. As they go on their way they discover more of the Shiroko Majo (White Witch) and Galuga, a great sea beast. Slowly, their paths becomes intertwined. All is just like a traditional RPG.

Gameplay: 5/10 All is simple but challenging if you can't read Japanese. You walk around, speak with people, they will have speech bubbles above their head. Then you find an ! mark and then go to a place. Sometimes the event wouldn't happen unless you stand there for 10 seconds. It quickly becomes monotonous and boring. The game wants you to focus on the narrative, not the side-quests. Outside of cities, enemies appear, bumping into one of them will take you into a battle. There are many loading times in the game, making you wait 10 seconds each time you go into a battle, and some other times.

Battle: 3/10 The battles doesn't really involve you, the characters just attack on their own accord. Sure, you can give them items, command them of special attacks, and attack or defend, but that is pretty much it.

Graphics: 9/10 Here is one point in the game where the game shines up. The graphics are really pretty. When a person speaks, a 2D sprite appears at the bottom right corner. The scenery and details of the city are real good.

Sound: 6/10 Ok, not great, not bad. The battle music is kind of skimpy though. The background music is ok, but a lot of it is classical. I don't really like classical, but that's just me.

Overall: 6/10 I was really really disappointed, I thought it would be better, but I was wrong, since the catalogs said it was good. Oh well…
