Twisted Metal: Head-On
Review by Matt Ludwig
"Another great game in the Twisted Metal series"
The Twisted Metal series has been with us since the Playstation 1. It was a huge hit from the beginning. So why not bring it over to their newest system, PSP. So lets dig deeper into this game and bring Twisted Metal to a whole new world.
Starting off let's discuss the gameplay. The controls are about the same in every game but since there are less buttons on the PSP console they had to figure out ways to add in some of the controls, like boost and jump. You must double tap buttons to use boost and jump which you would think get in the way but it doesn't. So the controls are laid out pretty well considering the fact they are missing a couple buttons from the PS2 controller.
The main point in the game is to destroy you enemies with different types of weapons like machine guns, napalm, missiles and another weapons. There are 5 enemies in different arenas and your job is to be the last one standing at each level. After so many levels you will fight a boss until you reached the end of the game. You have three lives per level and the enemies only have 1. There are also bonuses that can heal you and or give you armor.
Calypso has another annual Twisted Metal tournament for one great prize, one wish of your choice but you must fight the another combatants and destroy major landmarks all over the world while also destroying the lives of many innocent people. Are you willing to fight for the prize?
The sound couldn't sound better with a huge variety of music to each level and the beautiful sounds of machines guns killing innocent people. The explosive noise of bombs blowing up the Eiffel Tower. The sound of Twisted Metal has never sounded better especially on a portable system. They even have real voices for the ending videos with each character having their own unique voice.
The graphics of this game are probably the best looking PSP graphics out yet. It's as clear the Playstation 2 game Twisted Metal: Black. The levels are in great detail to each little pole in the Eiffel tower. One cool thing is at the end of the game with each character you get a character ending video. The videos are sort of like a comic strip, they don't move they are just individual drawings with people talking.
The best part of this game is that includes online mode. Their online mode has a waiting room where you can choose from a handful of games going on. You pick your game or create one and you can battle up to twelve people in one room. You can choose your own username and password and in the game your username appears over the car. The makes this game one of the best games on the market.
So this games loaded replay ability, you can try to get all the characters ending videos, there is also mini-games for each level. There are also over 5 new characters you can unlock through doing different stuff throughout the game. Plus there is online mode which will give you plenty of playtime for this game. So I am going to say this is a must have launch title for the PSP.
