Prince of Persia Revelations
Review by The IcecreamMan
"I could sure use the Sands of Time as well"
First I'm gonna say that this is my first Prince of Persia game. And I don't know how the original game that this game is based on plays out. But as far as I'm concerned, this game sucks. It just boggles the mind to think of a reason why this game was released with all the obvious flaws this game has in the first minute of gameplay! I know Ubisoft is out to make a quick buck on this piece of turd from unsuspecting players, but why release such a blatently obvious hackjob?
Graphics: 8
It looks good on screenshots. And it moves great....that is if it's just you and a few other characters on screen. And if there's no wierd loading in the most inappropriate places. Once the game gets more than three characters on screen (including yourself), the framerate drops considerably. It's like watching a bad claymation movie. And then there's the bad model collisions. Almost half the time when one character attacks another, the animation shows that he'll miss completely. As much as 2 feet away!
Finally there's the environment itself. Some parts are way too dark to see puzzles that come your way. You know what? Portables are played in multiple lighting conditions. Does the room have to be incredibly dim for this game to be visible?
Music/Sound: 4
The sound is great if it works. No one wouldn't know because it hardly ever does work. Music skips litterally every few seconds or stops all together, missing sound effects, and out of sync voiced dialogue (like watching badly dubbed foreign movie)
Gameplay: 6
I can imagine the game to be fun. But the gameplay is ruined by animation glitches, horrible sound glitches, lengthy load times, unexpected load times that seemingly appear out of nowhere and often, and the high learning curve (difficulty is not a big deal until it stacks up with the super annoying glitches).
Final Word:
If you have the patience to go through the problems this game has, you might enjoy a decent adventure this game has to offer. However, in my opinion, portable games are meant to be played right away. A "Pick up and Go" type of game. I would forgive the load times on a portable, but not when it's paired with bad gameplay and graphics.
Update: Some fans of this game have told me not to mind the glitches that this game has cuz it appeared in the original. I actually got to play Warrior Within which Revelations is based on. All I can say is...
- Warrior Within has some problems
- Not fixing the same problems that plagued the original is a crime
- Adding even more problems to this port is unbe-****ing-lievable.
