Star Wars: Battlefront II
Review by no2morro
"FORCEd into liking star wars. What a game!!!"
Never been a fan of the series, never liked much of anything to do with star wars. Like some people, thought it was cliche...
What can I say, I am hooked
5 - Story line"...Dont expect any. Bereft doesnt quite cover it, but did you ever play Gran Turismo, or Ridge Racers for the Story Line? Didn't think so, so its not a big issue. What you know of the star wars world you will see here. Little is retold, but maybe its for the better. How many times have you heard it? Hearing it again would be like hearing Goldielocks and the 3 bears again, or maybe Red Riding Hood, do you really need to hear it? Basically, Jedi Good, Sith bad, nuff said.
8.5 - Graphics: Very tight, everything looks how it should. I might never have liked it BEFORE, but I know what everything looks like . How could you not know? Everything moves smoothly and looks golden. Its not as smooth or crystal as Ridge Racer or Wipeout, but these games set the standard for the PSP, so lets be fair
10 - Handling: Very tight here. Of course you have to figure out which setting best suits you. I am a syphon filter man myself so I find the retro style more to my flavour of fighting. Initially though, figure out what works best for you and you will be getting that War Hero medal in no time (just keep trying the styles...if you choose the wrong one it feels really bad, but retro really worked for me).
8 - Sound: Light Sabres sound like they should and Blasters sound like they should, what more can you ask for? That is all I wanted. The game also includes Star Wars theme songs...Wonderful if that is what you are into. Personally I would rather put on some Silverstein or Unearth, but that is my personal preference.
9 - Fun factor: We can talk about depth and all the things that this game is lacking but lets be reasonable...this is a game made for 'on the go,' and it does its job well. If you want depth, go grab an RPG (a wealth of them are coming out on the PSP soon, so that will soon be possible). This is a strong title though, in considering I never liked star wars, and the fact that I keep coming back to this, it says something about how good this title is. This grabs me more than just about any game on the PSP and I own about 40 games (including wipeout, burnout, metal gear Acid 1 and 2 [MGA2 is awesome]) . Kashyyyk is crazy fun to rip through, especially trying to fight through the unbalanced playing field which works toward the highly expendable/replaceable wookie race (that you will soon learn dont count to the total of characters you need to take out (only rebels count))...with the right strategy though, you will have a ball. Dagobah is also a ball.
Also being able to play jedi or boba fett is fun too. Its great to rip through the battlefield with a Jedi when it looks like you are on your last legs. Boba Fett as well as Jango Fett carve through the wookies on Kashyyyk like a blow torch through butter.
9- Overall: This is an awesome game for first or third person shooter fans. It offers a good variety of opponents. A good level of weaponry. An effective battle system (though it might be a litle frustrating at the start to learn how it all works), as well as the opportunity to fight as some of the most powerful characters in the Galaxy. Overall its great fun for anyone into 3rd person shooters (I love them, I cant play 1st person like coded arms and Ghost in the Shell, they make me dizzy).
Recommendation:
If you like this Genre, you might also want to check out Socom, it also does the job quite well. Gundam Battle Tactics is also an option if you are proficient in Japanese.
