Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee
Review by Loc_Tran
"An overrated game but nevertheless, still a good one"
Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee is a cute "anime" golfing game for returning players of Everybody's Golf. Newbies to the series can come play as well.
Hot Shot Golf is about golfing and trying to beat the opponents that face your way and grab rewards like different clubs, new characters, new outfits to wear and various types of golf balls.
Graphics: 8 out of 10 - The graphics in Hot Shot Golf are pretty okay for a PSP game. The graphics are rendered but for some reason, some parts of the game are not anti-aliased. This sometimes makes edges look rough. The camera, thought very flexible and neat, can get annoying if you ever accidentally shot it in front of a tree. You won't able to see the tree making it difficult for you to shoot.
Game Play: 7 out of 10 - This game isn't nice to newbies. The game is slightly difficult at the start. There is no tutorial which makes it difficult to understand all the concepts of the game. For me, I found the game a bit too repetitive. First of all, it is usually started of with a drive (3+ par) or with a special shot (-3 par). The obstacles are usually obvious and you can just spin the ball to get out of the way. The putt putt is quite fun as you actually need challenge and skill in order to get a birdie (1 shot less from the par). The putt putt always involve some type of obstacle. It could be that you need to get a right amount of power in your shot or you might have to move with the current in order for your ball to "curve" into the hole. The most annoying bit I had found about of this game that when you verse the computer, you MUST watch what he is doing, instead of skipping his/her shot. This makes it extremely tiring and it wants you to zap the opponent to go faster. It also sometimes lags and the computer just stops for 10 seconds (brain strain?) before making his/her shot. Nevertheless, there is much to do, but soon gets too repetitive.
Music: 7 out of 10 - The music and caddies (voices) is not too bad. The downside is that there is not many songs you can listen to, which is a shame (gets boring to listen to the same tune all over again).
Replay Value: 8 out of 10 - After when you have finish the game, there is certain awards you can get which are hard to get if you are just average. Even getting 100%, you will be coming back to this game for a practise on a course or a putt putt challenge.
Multi-player: 9 out of 10 - It is quite good actually, Customise your own match and off you go with a friend!
Rent or Buy: You must buy this game as in you cannot finish this game without buying it. If you intend to just try it, off you go. :)
Overall: It's is a nice golfing game with its cute quirks and plays but yet, it does not fully appeal to me. I give it 7/10 for this reason.
