Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror
Review by AlucardZero
"Truly the most amazing PSP game yet!"
---------------------------------------------------------------------INTRODUCTION-----------------------------------------------------------------
Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror is the 5th installment of the Syphon Filter series. The series started on the PS1(Syphon Filter 1, 2, and 3) then it moved onto the more advanced console, the PS2, a lot of people thought that Syphon Filter: The Omega Strain was a let down, but I found it rather fun, and exciting(I'm not British, by the way). Now the game goes portable, on the Sony Playstation Portable. This isn't one of those ports that a bunch of people hate, but it's a whole new game made entirely from scratch, except the characters, of course. Now that your introduced, heres the review.

I Sounds/Music:
Well, I haven't heard a lot of music in the game due to all of the shooting and what not, but when you defeat all of your foes, it's still, and quiet, and you can hear the amazing music. The music is actually quite nice, and fitting to the scene your in. If your being attacked, you have a rock type of music, if your playing the game stealthily, you get soft, quiet music fitting to the situation.
The gun sounds aren't the best I've heard, but they're pretty damn good.
Once again, I haven't heard a lot of it but it gets a good score.
8/10
II Game Play:
This, and story is what make the game happen. You can do A LOT in this game.
The controls are pretty much not too easy, not too hard to learn, I myself on occasion mess up the controls, when selecting the specific goggles, or weapon buttons, but overall they're like riding a bike. Aiming in this game is easier than other games like this(Coded Arms) it's easy to get the bead on the enemy. This game uses alike maneuvers as the Metal Gear Solid series uses. Such as hanging to objects, clinging to walls, and peeking out of corners, and you can even jump out from a corner and shoot an enemy(and you can choose where to shoot before you even jump out!) There's lots of weapons, and accessories(which I'll explain more in the next section) as well. I know I'm forgetting something important... Oh yeah! You can either go through this game Rambo style, shooting every living thing that moves( don't do that when your escorting someone!) or you can go stealthily, covering behind every object, using silenced weapons, knives, and hands , just like Sam Fisher from Splinter Cell.
Anyway, I'm sure you'll love the game play
10/10
III Weapons/Equipment:
This game offers quite a lot of different gadgets and weapons, I won't do an entire list, since I didn't even beat the entire game yet! Anyway, it offers things from melee weapons like the K-bar, EDT(taser) and your bare fists. Machine guns like the UZI, FAMAS, SPECTRE, AR-galil (I'm not sure if' it's one of them). Sniper rifles, like the VSS-DU. And handguns, like a silenced Mark 23, and the .40 MM. There's also a bunch of neat stuff like Goggles. There's NV(nightvision) EDSU (which lets you see all interactive objects, like computers, locks, files, etc) IR(infrared, no more needs to be said) and the PID(which is a flashlight). Oh and not to forget, there's selectable darts to shoot at people, like Gas Darts, Explosive darts, EDT darts, and regular 6 MM bullets. Plus there's grenades. You should have fun with these weapons, because you can unlock more for online play!
10/10
IV Online Play:
I haven't got to use this feature too much, just once, and this will be based on the online play I've see. Anyway, you're hooked up to the network wirelessly, and you start to play infrastructure mode right after you register(which some idiot, not mentioning who, took it and wants 2 dollars in PayPal for him, he sucks) Anyway, once your in, your in the lobby, where you get to either make a game, join a game, or chat. You can chat using the custom keyboard, or using the microphone. Once you join a game, you wait for other player to join, then wait on the host to start confirming the players, and you appear in the load out room, where you select weapons that you have unlocked on your journey collecting files, and doing certain things in the story mode. Then you start the game, no lag, even with 8 players, and you do objectives(this is in objective mode.) Who ever does the objectives first, wins the round. If you get killed you wait about 30 seconds, and you have the option to respawn. Anyway, I'm not giving online play anything that will change the final outcome because I didn't get to fully explore.
6/10 <--- not counted towards total **Read above**
V Game Sharing:
I've got a few words for this. As far as I know, it only lets you play the story mode level the host PSP user was on, not the entire game, so I don't think you can use Ad-hoc on a different PSP without the disc, I might be wrong.
8/10
VI Story:
The story is just great so far, I can't tell you much about it because I haven't finished the game yet. Basically, you play as Gabe Logan most of the time,( you play as Lian Xing later, maybe some other people, too) and you were sent to find something out, this was too dangerous for the government, and too sensitive for the military response(as the game said). Just trust me it's great.
10/10
Replay Value:
I'd say it's pretty damn good. Whatever you do in story mode, adds to the equipment you have in online mode. By that I mean you have to collect secret files hidden across the map, and you have to do certain things to get your "career" up, which just indicates what you did like Knife Kills and whatever, and when you have enough you unlock a weapon. Did I mention you could unlock 5 new levels by finding those files as well?
10/10
FINAL SCORE 9.5/10 (rounded to 10)
-------------------------------------------------------------FINAL WORDS--------------------------------------------------------------------------
It's a great game, and it's lots of fun, so do Sony Bend a favor and buy the game, I swear to you, you WON'T regret it.
