"Multi-Colored Virtual 3-D Action! Well, something like that..."
Well, red and black are 2 colors, so that's more than one so that can be considered multi, right?
Also so it was the 90's, everyone was overjoyed and amazed at the sight of ''Virtual 3-D Graphics''. Nintendo went as far as to create this system with those goofy looking headsets. Though they neglected to mention in most TV advertisements and magazine advertisements that it was only 2 colors, but they did promise and deliver 3-D graphics, I'll give them that much.
Alright, how did I come across this system in the year 2003? Well I was at a local flea market [hey you can find some rare games there you know] and a vendor was selling the system, in box with 4 games inside, for $25, I haggled it down to $20 and thought, ''oh what the hell, right?'' I already knew what most people thought of the system, but for $20 I figured, meh why not play it and try it myself?
Alright first, this is SO NOT PORTABLE. You have 2 curved rods under the system itself to hold it up, you aren't taking this anywhere other than a desk, a table or some other flat surface if you're going to play it.
The controls actually not too bad, controller was a little different than I was used to, and a little heavy, though didn't have too much time to get used to it as I put it away after a few days of playing it, you can tell how much I enjoyed and the length of time I played it by now right?
Let's take a look at a few notables. Well certain games I'll admit were alright, Pinball and Mario Tennis notably, they were actually alright, decent graphics and control. Though other games such as Red Alert were fun, for a while, but I soon got tired of the wire frames. You can't judge a system by 1 or 2 bad games, although if a large amount were only ''so-so'' then...
Alright, let's take an over all look at this system.
Portability - not there
Graphics - depended on the game like on all systems
[Though over all, eh, pretend a red and black instead of green a black Gameboy jammed in your face while you played]
Sound - same as above [Though over all, alright]
Control - same as above [Though over all, alright]
Price - Don't pay more than $20
So really, I'll give Nintendo a hand for trying, they were the first or by all I could tell the only one who tried to break into the market trying to offer ''portable 3-D action'' though it wasn't exactly portable, I still will give them their due, they tried, maybe not have been a success or all that great, but still, I give them their credit for trying.
