"Mario Clash is the original Mario Bro's all over again, it has pleanty of levels though ;)"
Genre: action
Game play: 7/10
In Mario Clash, you are in a giant tower. The tower has, not ten levels, not twenty levels, not fifty levels, but one hundred levels! Now don't get too exited. Each level is only one room, and most of them are the same. The levels are like the original Mario Bro's, only imagine them viewed a little more to the top, so that it is 3D. As the level you are on gets higher up, the enemies get harder and harder. Easy enemys you can just jump on. Some, you must use a turtle shell (an upside down koopa). Though the game has little depth, it is fun.
Entertainment Value: 8/10
If you loved the original Mario bros you will love Mario Clash. It has the same "don't get hit" feel to it. And added a nice 3D twist. If you bothered picking up a V-boy, you should check Mario Clash out. It may not be as good as the Super Mario Worlds, but it is still very entertaining.
Graphics: 7/10
As far as V-Boy Games go, Mario Clash has great graphics. The areas mostly look the same, though the floors will change from normal to ice from time to time. Mario can get to feel bulky some times (he will take a while to stop moving in one direction). Overall though, the graphics don't stand out in the current gaming world.
Music: 7/10
Ahh, bland borring music at it's greatest. It won't take long for you to turn of your V-Boy's sound and click on your CD player.
Sound effects: 8/10
The sound effects are, oddly, very well done. When you collect coins, they actually sound like coins, though the "plop" turtle shells make can only get so good. It is still very nicly done.
Replay Value: 5/10 :(
100 levels may sound like a lot, but it won't take long for you to realize that this game gets borring rather fast. Big fans of the old mario might enjoy it though the first half of the game. But it's hard to stomach THAT much of the same thing (and it being Mario does not help one bit). Mario Clash, is a game that you will not want to play to the end. Only a few people with a lot of free time will ever want to play from start to finish.
Overview: 6/10
Mario Clash could of been a lot better. It's flaw is that you are always in the same setting. If you would walk from room to room, get upgrades that stay forever, the game might of had more appeal. The sound effects managed to be ok, though there is not much in the game that can make sound, they put a lot of time in what they did have to do. The music, may sound good at first, but after a while you will get tired of it. 100 levels of Mario is a bit too much for my liking. This is the kind of game you would regret spending $20 on. But it is fun. So it deserves more than a five. I give Mario Clash a solid 6/10 because of it's low replay value.
Rent or Buy?
Well, if you see it for $10 it would be worth it. But anything more than that would be far too much. I recommend renting it.
