"The last of the AC1 series is a success"

First let me tell you what Armored Core is all about. Armored core is a fully customizable mech game. This is an action game with lots of shooting (I mean lots) and a little adventure. You play the role of a hired mercenary, or a Raven as the game calls it, now lets break it down.

Game play: The game play says it all! You can run, slide, dash or fly! This is a third person shooter, but it's fast. The aid of a lock box makes aiming a lot easier so don't think it's to fast. This game is the sequel to Armored Core Project Phantasma and also the expansion to the original Armored core. This game is broken up into about 19 missions, where you must protect, save, destroy, or find targets. This may not sound unique, but doing it in a fully customizable robot is certainly great. This means that it will take some trial and error since one mech will work one place, while another will fail. With the new expansion you can load up your AC's from Armored Core(1) and Armored Core Project Phantasma. It adds even more parts then before. As the name suggests this game also has a very arena. Their are way over 100 one on one battle, 100% fair and 100% fun. You also have a store to buy and upgrade your armored core. You lose money for getting hit (repair bills), using ammo, and doing things your not suppose to while you gain money from rewards and doing extra good (This only applies to the missions). Outstanding

Challenge: The game starts off easy and ends really hard which is perfect for a game. The games mission aren't the hardest but the arena's extra challenging battles are extremely hard (To this day, this has the hardest arena) The arena is where you want to test your skills and will be where most of your time is spent. This game is even more harder is you start over opposed to a AC1 or a AC1pp load up. Outstanding

Control: The one problem most people may have is the control. This game is easy to pick up from if your used to these type of action games, and if you started on Armored Core(1) you'll know these controls like the back of your hand and want all your first/third person shooters set up like this. It may take a while to get used to since some times it's a must to boost + move forward + turn + shoot + look up and down. Any ways, there's nothing wrong with the controls and no confusing combinations. Outstanding

Story: This game is mainly based on one thing, Your role in the arena. This game actually has a story that's start to finish, the arena is also part of the story, too. (You actually have to go through the arena if you want to beat the game.) Great

Graphics: For the PS1's time, this game is one of the best. Paint flies off you when you get hit, Fire look decent, and the robots move really good. The graphics are the same way they were in AC1 and AC1pp, so no outrageous changes. Great

Audio: This game sports great music. Most of it is Techno but it suits the game really well. You will love the main theme song in this game, I know you will. Armored core also has very nice effects. You can even hear you mech turn! The missiles, rockets, and grenades sound really great. Most of the good tunes show up again in this installment and only the good ones. Outstanding

Replayability: This game will keep you occupied for a very long time. You may only go through this game once or twice, but with all the different combinations (Head, Core, Arms, Legs, Firing Control System, Generator, Boosters, and 4 types of weapons {That range from machine guns to bazookas}). This game also has a very great two player versus. You and your friend can go head to head with your own armored cores (by a load up from a memory card) and battle in about 10 different levels. The arena will also keep you occupied for a very long time, over 100 AC's to kill is funner that you think. Outstanding

This game is a must buy if you like these type of games. But I would highly recommend playing and beating AC1 and AC1pp before trying this, it will make the whole ordeal much more enjoyable since this game's arena is VERY hard.

I give this game a nine out of ten mainly because it's more of the same of the sequel with an even bigger arena and because it is a two disk game...
