"If you own the original, GET THIS NOW!"
Metal Gear Solid is a truly innovative title, one of the finest you can get on the Playstation. Combine the dazzling graphics, involving story line and the always cool espionage theme and you came up with a superb little package. There was only one problem, the fans couldn't get enough of it, to satisfy the demands of these hardcore gamers Konami released this add-on disc, and satisfy it did......
MGS: VR Missions is more of a follow on from the VR Training section of Metal Gear Solid rather than the actual game, a lot of you are probably groaning as at times this training seemed more like a chore than a novelty, but there are so many extra modes and features to make this add-on worth the money.
The graphics still have the wire-frame look that the VR Training had, some people may find this boring and repetitive, but once you get into the game and become more focused on completing the task at hand that the graphics will become unimportant. Going past the backgrounds, the characters are well designed and look as good as they did in the previous game, the only fault that I have is with Snakes running action (why cant he move his arms) but that's just a personal thing.
There isn't really much in the sound department to comment on, all the weapons make solid satisfying noises, the footsteps are almost realistic, apart from the small snippets of speech there isn't much else at all. I suppose some background music wouldn't have been entirely out of the question on some of the missions.
The gameplay is just fantastic, this game will keep you hooked for months unlocking and trying out all the different modes let me run through some of them for you. Theres sneaking, weapons, puzzle, mystery, battles against twelve enemies, you even get to control the Ninja from MGS! Each one of the levels (and theres a lot of them) are well designed, and every one of them provides a decent challenge, you'll have to use every trick that Solid Snake knows to work your way through.
A lot of thought must have gone into this disc as some of the ideas they've come up with are amazing. The one I really must elaborate on is the Mystery feature. You're presented with a murder victim, a number of clues, and three suspects. It is up to you to use the clues that you're given, find the murderer and arrest his sorry butt. This feature alone shows the great variety that VR Missions offers the gamer.
There is a big fun factor. Some of the modes and levels are so enjoyable you'll just squeal with delight whilst playing them. Even with the huge amount of levels on offer you'll still always look forward to advancing to the next one.
The lifespan of the game is great, it'll be a while before you make it to the grand total of 100%, and then you'll want to go out and beat your old times into the dust. There's plenty to see and plenty to do, this is one add-on that you won't tire of in a hurry.
The challenge that the disc offers is absolutely superb. The game is as hard as you want it to be. Some of the levels are extremely difficult whilst others are just a stroll in the park. It's a matter of finding your own level of difficulty and testing yourself to the fullest. Something here for all players of the game, no matter how terrible you are.
Overall, I think that if you own MGS and enjoyed it even the slightest bit, you should consider buying this. It has amazing depth for an add-on and at the price it's being sold for it's an absolute bargain. And if you don't own Metal Gear Solid, it might be worth purchasing just to get this lovely package.
