"Fun, Fun, Fun"
Well, here we go. My first shot at a review. Spyro 2 is a follow-up to the popular Spyro 1. Anyone who was turned off bu the cutesy exterior should really check out this amazing game shouild go out and get it RIGHT NOW!
Simply put, amazing. Everything from the character models to scenery is out of this world. The character animations are super-smooth. All of the scenery is clean and crisp. There are lots of different environments so it never feels like you're doing the same thing over and over. Also, the camera is tuned to perfection. You can rotate it to get a perfect view of the area you are in with the R2 and L2 Buttons. Utterly brilliant.
The music in the game leaves some to be desired, but it does change to ''fit'' the level. But the sound effects, whether it is a burning plant to Spyro headbutting a yak, its all great.
There is no true story or plot twists. It is basically ''saving the world'' and leaves a lot to be desired. The first level occurs in a place called Glimmer, inhabeted by odd-looking mole-people. They are gem miners. When you get there, they see you and ask your help to get rid of them. You just have to get to the end of the level, but you should take out all of the enemies for the gems.
The control scheme in Spyro is very simple. X is jump, O is fire, is charge, pretty much the same as the first. The one twist is the ability to learn new moves, such as swimming and diving, really adds new dimension to the game. Just so silky smooth.
Fun. It is a GIGANTIC game. There is so much to do, you may never finish it. Every goal progresses evenly so you're not pounded with a difficult level in the beginning, yet they are just tough enough to keep you interested. Even if you don't feel like getting seriously into it, it is fun to just run around and tako out the enemies. It is a simple formula: collect gems, clear levels, beat bosses, and save the world. And I've never had so much fun doing it!
After you beat the game, you'll want to play through it again, positively, but it isn't as much fun. You will still enjoy it, though.
Rent or Buy: BUY, BUY, BUY!!! You can get a used Greatest Hits copy for less than $10. BUY IT!!!
You're guaranteed to have tons of fun with this amazing game. Buy it. You won't be dissapointed.
