"It's been 12 years and it still amazes me!"

It's been 12 years down the line since this game was released into the Playstation library and we now have things like the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3. Brilliant graphics and lifelike gameplay. But what do we really want to do? Go back and play the classic platformers that started it all. When someone mentions a classic platform game on the Playstation, the first thing that comes to mind is Spyro the Dragon and how awesome that game was. Every second of it was flawless!

The basic storyline is that a herd of dragons lived in 6 different worlds in peace and while doing an interview with someone, one of the dragons mention a creature who goes by the name of Knasty Knorc. He is described as being an evil and dispicable creature. Unluckily for the dragons, he can hear what they say and happens to hear an insult and decides that the dragon took it too far so he freezes every dragon into crystal. Except for Spyro of course.

The basic object of the game is go through the many different worlds and find as many crystalized dragons as you can. Finding enough dragons allows you to advance to the next home world. Along the way, you must collect gems that are scattered across each level. It is quite similar to Banjo-Kazooie in a way.

Gameplay:
This is one of the game's strongest points. The game is fun and addictive. It makes you think on your feet as well as test your gameplay skills as you get through the game. The first few dragons are easy to reach but as you go through the game, you will need to keep your eyes open to find the dragons on further levels. The gameplay is in-depth and it makes you want to keep playing until you collect everything in the game.
10/10

Graphics:
For the very first console released by Sony, the graphics are brilliant. The scenery is filled with stunning detail and beautiful backgrounds to top it off. There isn't much to say about the graphics other than the fact that it is fantastic overall.
10/10

Music:
The music in the game fits perfectly for every time that it has been put in. Every piece is perfectly plated and arranged into the game for every level. Enough said.
10/10

Voice Acting:
This may be one of the game's only flaws. Most of the voice acting is good but there are some parts which gives you the familiar 'wtf?' impression. One example is when a dragon is released and says a high pitched 'Thank you for releasing me!'. There aren't many voice acting problems in this game. Just a few parts.
8.5/10

Controls:
The controls for this game could not be decided any better. They are easy to follow and easy to get used to. What adds to that is that even though there aren't any unlockable abilities or moves in the game, that gets rid of any button combination problems when trying to execute a certain move.
10/10

Overall: 10/10
Spyro the Dragon is one of the most fun and addictive games ever created, let alone in the Playstation library. It perfectly defines the meaning of a platform game and gives a brilliant experience. If you didn't get this game back then, you missed out on a lot. Definatily consider trying to find this game. It is well worth the trouble.
