"The Most Popular Fighting Game Series In The History Of Videogames Finally Goes 3-D!!!"

Introduction

The most popular fighting game series in the history of video games finally goes 3-D. Street Fighter Ex Plus Alpha for the PlayStation is an enhanced version of the rather successful arcade title, Street Fighter Ex Plus. This will be another PlayStation exclusive game, with some exclusive features to make it a must for all Street Fighter fans who have a PlayStation at home.

What Is It About?

Although the characters are polygonal 3-D on a 2-D plane, anyone who has played it will know that it plays and feels like any of the classic Street Fighter games. Due to the extra frames of animation that each polygonal fighter gets treated to, the gameplay may feel a bit more sluggish than the 2-D Street Fighter games. Nevertheless, the game manages to run at a reasonable fast pace, with little slowdowns. The final product is a smooth-moving game that can really stand up to the graphical might of the earlier Virtua Fighter games and Tekken games.

What's New???

The arcade Street Fighter Ex series introduces several new characters to the Street Fighter universe, which includes the acrobatic Skullomania, C. Jack, Allen, Hokuto, Kairi, D. Dark and so on. Luckily for PlayStation owners, several new extra characters that are not found in the arcade version like Sakura, Cycloid Beta, Cycloid Gamma and so on are added exclusively for you. Familiar characters like Ryu, Ken, Chun Li, Akuma etc can also be found in the game. With a sheer cast of over 23 characters, it is sure to keep fans of the fighting genre satisfied.

Several never-before-seen moves have been added to the fighters, mainly the new ones but the joypad executions to perform them remain the classic, if not an outdated Street Fighter style. Some of the older moves have also been slightly modified. For example, Chun Li's Spinning Bird Kick is now executed with a fireball motion instead of a charge down, then up combination. In short, long time Street Fighter fans should be able to pick up the game quite fast.

Music and Sound

Each fighter has his or her own background tune that suits him or her the best. The sound effects are majestic to say the least. Expect to hear many familiar sound samples.

Conclusion

Generally speaking, Street Fighter Ex Plus Alpha doesn't play any much difference to the older 2-D Street Fighter games, except that the entire engine has been changed to polygons. What you are playing in Street Fighter Ex Plus Alpha is essentially what you have played before in the old 2-D Street Fighter! Nevertheless, I applaud Capcom for their effort to make a decent 3-D fighter. With Street Fighter Ex Plus Alpha, it's clear that Capcom will continue to invest in both 2-D and 3-D games, keeping its hard-earned 2-D loyalists and slowly winning devotees of 3-D brawlers away from competitors. Be sure to keep an eye out for this hot polygonal fighter.
