"The Best Tomb Raider game of them all!"
Tomb Raider 1 in my opinion was the best of the so far 3 game (and soon to be 4) series. This game was a mix of puzzle solving, pure action, 360 degree environments so you can roam around to hearts desire. You play as Lara Croft, an English beauty who is very skilled. She is an archeologist who sets out on her quest to find one of the three pieces of the ancient Atlantean Scion, a talisman of incredible power. Once she finds it, she finds herself fighting off many different people. Soon she discovers the mystery of the Atlantean civilization and the effect on the world when it collapsed. You will find yourself exploring eerie, dark, and even prehistoric environments throughout your adventure. Lara can do many things such as jumping, rolling, hanging off of cliffs, and of course shoot and kill the bad guys. The graphics are really nice and the backgrounds are super detailed. The controls are also very easy to get used to. Finally, the music fits the game just right. You will feel as if you are actually there, it is truly great!
The really good:
Gameplay: Tomb Raider is a very fun game. The mix of action and puzzles work really great for this title. Also, the 360 degree environments add a whole new level of fun to this game, as you can find many different paths to take that may lead you to secret areas or possibly even a trap. This will make you want to explore almost every part of each level.
Music: The music fits the game perfectly and makes you feel as if you are actually there. The sound effects also lend to that effect. You will different sounds from different animals, which adds to the realism of the game. Also, the running water and other natural things will sound as if you were really there.
Story: I thought this was very well done. Each part progresses nicely and it has the necessary plot twists to keep the game fresh, this way you are never truly sure what will happen next.
Graphics: I just love the backgrounds in this game. Each one is so unique when compared to the other. They also fit the actual image of their respective environments (ie: a jungle actually looks like a jungle!) Also, the characters themselves are nicely made.
The Controls: They are very easy to learn and to get used to. It should take no more then an hour to be able to execute perfectly timed jumps and roll and the right time, instead of pressing the wrong button and attacking.
The story although good, is not that unique. As many people may tell you, Tomb Raider is a little bit of a Indiana Jones Clone.
Sometimes the camera view is not that good, making it hard for you to know when to jump or know where a certain item or enemy is.
There is nothing really wrong with this at all!
So in closing, if you are looking for a good time, get Tomb Raider. Eidos has even released a Gold version with some extra levels on it. This game is a must have!
My score: 9/10
