"One good, one bad, a 2 part review, 5 points a piece, Begin review!"
Hello there Final Fantasy Fans! And welcome to my second review!
I decided to write my first Final Fantasy review about a game that is half amazing, and half terrible. This is Final Fantasy Origins, a collection of Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy II on one disc my question is why did Final Fantasy II have to exist?
This review gives 5 points to each game, so 10 total Lets see...
Overall Score 5/5
This game is amazing, simply amazing! I played this game for the first time on the PS1 on this Final Fantasy Origins collection. I sat for many hours fighting evil monsters and trying to restore peace to the world also trying to figure out where to go next
You choose a party of 4 between 6 jobs (Warrior, Black Mage, White Mage, Thief, Red Mage, and Monk) and you stick with that party till the very end. The game can be complicated at finding your next destination since you are given virtually no hints where to go, but it still stays fun till the end.
These graphics are good because they are a great improvement over the original (I've seen pictures of the original) and they have vibrant colors and beautiful but simple spell effects. I have nothing to complain about at all.
I love the music in this game, it is simple, but clever, nice tunes that you can hum to, and that don't take long to learn. The sounds are nice, nothing special but nothing bad.
OOOH how clever! Little shortcut buttons to things like the equipment or magic menus! And no I am not kidding; I do think that is clever! Anyway, Standard RPG controls, nothing special but if you keep things the same way, you are sure to do em right!
Simple, run around, kill monsters, get money, buy equipment and magic, kill stronger monsters, go to next area, repeat. Oh and don't forget about saving the world while your at it! Gameplay is fun, just a little hard at times to figure out where to go, but with a trusty GameFAQs guide you should be fine. The basic plot is your four characters you chose are the heroes and they carry magic crystals; you have to take those crystals and defeat evil guardians to regain power to the crystals. Simple ya? But fun!
Overall Fun Factor and Replay Value: 5/5
Great Game! And it will keep you busy for a while and you will be having fun. Replaying this game is fun because you can always choose new party combinations and/or magic and equipment choices.
Now For the dark side of the review .
FINAL FANTASY II
Overall Score: 0/5
This game is evil it's bad and it isn't fun AT ALL. There is little I can say about this game, because I didn't get far because it is THAT BAD.
Character sprites look weird, misshapen sort of and magic animations are terrible.
The environment looks about the same to ff1 so I can't say anything about that
The music is so bad, I can't even remember a bit of it. Sounds don't ring a bell either maybe my brain gave me amnesia about it because it was so bad I dunno
This is the only good thing I can say about this game, the controls are much like FF1's and it even gives you a quick level gain cheat if you know how to work it right.
This game makes me want to do just that, because I can't sit for 10 minutes with this game. Leveling up is tedious and annoying, even if there is a cheat for it, that doesn't make a game's leveling up fun. You don't level up normally in this game; in fact, you don't level up at all. In this game your weapons level up, not you. You gain stats in strange way I'll take an excerpt from the manual
Action: Attack = increases strength.
Action: Lose HP in battle = higher Max HP
So when you do certain things, certain things level up, which can cause a big pain in the butt it is tedious to level up, not fun, this is the main reason why I will not play this game.
I can't tell you much about the storyline except that you are against an empire and your main character is Firon
Overall fun factor and replay value: 0/5
I can't find anything fun about this game and it's not even worth playing if you get FFO.
Rent or Buy: BUY! But don't play FF2
The game is well worth it for FF1 and some people do like FF2, and some people even think the reverse of what I think, so I say get the game and try em both, but I don't think you will be satisfied with FF2.
