2006 June 27th  - Version 1.3, had another replay of the game, a few
additions: miscellaneous, extra knights, and the equipment sections, a few
more monsters in the monster ability list, a few more Knights and classes in
the Knights list, and a "revamp" of the last battles section with more info
included and a couple of fixes. Finally, a more concrete update. 

2006 December 2nd - Version 2, a new Response and Summary section is added.
Small additions here and there as well as adding in more 3rd level classes and
Knights info. Also, the Recollection section is GREATLY expanded as I list the
events. Some minor corrections as well.

-Introduction-

Brigandine: Grand Edition is the remake of Brigandine: Legend of Forsena.
Unfortunately, it was never released in the US. For most people who have
played Brigandine: Legend of Forsena before, the gameplay style in the game
remain pretty much unchanged, and it would not be difficult to play and
complete the game even if one does not read or understand Japanese at all.

However, I decided to create this FAQ to help anyone who needs an extra
reference, or anyone who is totally lost, to at least enjoy this great game
in spite of the language difference.

Points to take note:

-Though this FAQ was not created with the intention of a walkthrough at first,
but seeing as how this is the only FAQ for this game on the site as yet. I
have decided to include as much information as I can with each version update.

This FAQ is also for the purpose of providing necessary clarification and
information one might need to play the game smoothly in terms of controls,
mechanics and understanding.

-In this guide, some stuff are explained down to the basics. So don't think
I'm insulting your intelligence. It's just for the sake of providing exact
and completely clear information all round.

-I will make reference to the original Brigandine: Legend of Forsena as 
'LoF'and this game, Brigandine: Grand Edition as 'GE' for short forms. 

-Please take note of the implied differences in the meaning of the following
words I use in my description text so you may not be confused:

army: This refers to all the Knights and Monsters under you in a particular
castle battle. Take note that the Ruler of the country is also considered as
a Knight in the game, therefore he/she is counted in the total number of
Knights.

troop: You can use up to a maximum of 3 Knights in a castle battle. Each
Knight and the monsters under him/her I refer to as ONE troop. This means,
in my context, you can use a maximum of 3 troops in a castle battle.

unit: 1 Knight is a unit, 1 monster is a unit. So, 1 Knight and 1 monster
make 2 units.

Knight: Knights are the people you can use in battles. There is a class in
the game called Knight(which is Cavalier in LoF). Do not be confused as to
which one I'm referring to, if I'm talking about the Knight class, I will
specify it clearly with the "class" word.

++++++++++++++++++(1)THE GAME'S VARIOUS MENUS AND CONTROLS++++++++++++++++++++


This part lists the menus and controls of the games. All options listed
are in exact order with that in the game.

Note: When you click to confirm some actions, a message may pop up and
you get two choices. The message is asking "Are you sure?" The left choice
is where the knife is by default pointing to, it means "Yes", and the Right
side choice means "No". 
If you want to play safe, you can just press the X button to cancel.

***Main Menu***

We start off at the main menu, after you have watched the opening anime.

To decide, press circle button. To cancel, press X button. If you want
to reset the game and return to the main menu at any point in the game,
you don't have to switch off the console's power. You can just press the
select and start button simultaneously.

So, on the Main Menu, we have four choices:

1)New game 
2)Continue 
3)Tutorial 
4)Recollection


---New game---

After you choose New game, you get a screen having 2 options:

1)Story Mode
2)MultiPlayer Mode

The Story Mode is a single player mode whereby you choose one country and
start to unify the entire continent.

After selecting Story Mode, you get to choose the game difficulty.
1)Easy
2)Normal
3)Hard

Take note that the Easy level has no time limit for unifying the continent,
but the Normal and Hard Mode each has a time limit of 6 years.
The Easy Level also has a brief inbuilt tutorial to teach you the basic
factors like World Map Organize phase/Attack phase and so on.

Next, you choose the country you wish to play as. There are 6 playable
countries:

West Almekia(New Almekia in LoF, they are the same)
Norgard
Caerleon
Leonia
Iscalio
Esgares(yes, I'm not kidding you. In GE, you can play as Esgares without any
secret code whatsoever, in GE, it's called Estgares, but they are the same, so
don't bother too much) 

Then you get the screen which shows the land of Forsena, and text which
explains how this land has the ability of rune power, and about the war
between Almekia and Norgard that has finally ended with the former as the
victor. And that it seems as though peace has returned, but...

You get a cut-scene of Zemeckis talking about war with Cador at his back.
After which, the background change to a burning castle, Zemeckis has rebelled
and formed the Esgares Empire.

You get cut-scenes of your country's leader and Knights discussing about
Zemeckis' rebellion and their various views and decisions.

After that, the screen switches to the world map. Finally the real gameplay
has started.

---MultiPlay Mode---

The MultiPlay Mode basically allows you to battle one other. There are 3
scenarios to choose from. The scenario options are as follows:

1)Year 215, Month 3, for 6 people
2)Year 216, Month 6, for 4 people
3)Year 218, Month 6, for 3 people

After choosing the scenario, you can select the country you want to play as.


---Tutorial---

The Tutorial section provides tutorials on battle gameplay. Go here if you
wish to try out the battle system but don't want to jump straight into the
main game.
There are 4 options to choose from:

1)Battle Basics
2)Abilities of Units
3)Individual attack
4)Sandwich attack

Battle Basics and Abilities of Units teaches you as the names say: the basic
mechanism in controlling, moving, attacking, aligning and using your units.

Individual attack and Sandwich attack are two forms of battle styles the
tutorial teaches you on the battle field when you get attacked from 2 or 3
directions by the enemy.
Instead of staying at the same spot and guarding until the enemy units all
advance towards you,

I)The Individual attack suggests that you split up your troops and attack
the enemy units as individual groups. It means something like one-on-one.

II)The Sandwich attack suggests that you first go for the enemy troops in one
direction with all of your units, and then moving on to the next.

Overall the tutorial section provides merely basic battle gameplay teachings.


---Recollection---

The Recollection section allows you to re-view the various anime cutscenes and
conversations etc you have so-called went through in the Story Mode. However,
you need to have the memory card data in order to enable this function.

That means, for example, if you have played as West Almekia until the end,
and have kept your last save data in your memory card, you can go to the
Recollection section, load that save data, and choose to view the cutscenes
for the New Almekia storyline from the start until that point in the save
data. Of course, it also means that you have to switch discs if the cutscene
you choose to view is on the other disc. Simple, simple.

One thing to note is that if you have a system save data for Almekia on say,
memory slot one, when you play as another country, for example: Norgard and
also save your game under slot one. The system data will automatically be
overwritten, so you can view BOTH the events for Almekia and Norgard with
that one system save data. The system data only takes up one memory card slot
so you can keep your events with that alone.

Here, I shall list the events I have gotten. This is just an addition for
people who wants to complete this game in all aspects. A bonus info I have for
you is that once you have COMPLETED playing ALL of the countries and if you
have saved your data on the same memory card throughout (meaning your system
data will continously get overwitten with more events), go to the recollection
section and events that you have not gotten will show up as well, only that
they are darkened and you cannot view them of course.

My current overall collection percentage is at 73%.

***The World Map Menu***

When you first reach the World Map screen, you will be in the Organize
Phase. Look to the upper left(the flag look-alike thing) for the current Year,
Month and Phase.

Use the D-pad to move the cursor as and where you wish. Press either the
Square or X button together with your D-pad buttons to move the cursor at a
faster speed.

The Circle and X button usage is the same from start to end, decide and cancel
respectively.

Pressing the Triangle button will show you your country's current status:

Press the Start button on the World Map to bring out a list of rectangular
icons on the upper right corner. The functions are as follows:

---Execute---

You choose the Execute function after you have finished organizing your
troops. This will end the Organize phase and start the Attack Phase.

---Unit---

This allows you to view which Knight is located at which castle and their
current status.

---Troops---

You can choose to view the troops of your own country as well as that of the
other enemy countries in a summarized form by selecting this.

---Strength---

This lets you view the minimized map of the entire land. The areas under
various countries are indicated by their respective colors. 

West Almekia   :Red

Caerleon       :Green
Iscalio        :Yellow
Leonia         :Light Green
Esgares        :Purple




When you point your cursor to an occupied castle that is under you, and press
the Circle button, once again you get a list of rectangular icons popping up,
they are:

-Organize(This will be explained in the Organize Menu section)
-Move
-Wait
-Quest
-Summon


---Status---

You view the status of the Knights and Monsters in that particular castle when
you choose this. When you select an enemy's castle, the only icon that comes
up is the Status option, so you can view the status of your enemy's troops.

---Move---

You can select the troops in this castle and move them to another castle that
is also under your control. 

---Wait---

If you accidentally made the wrong Move or Quest command for a troop, select
it under Wait to...well, wait at the castle and don't do anything.

---Quest---

Send Knights on quests to obtain items, equipment, bonuses or better yet,
gain extra Knights.

---Summon---

If you think you can fight and win a battle normally by using only 3 Knights,
I'm sorry, I think it's not very wise for you to play Brigandine after all.
Monsters are your friends(well, almost) in Brigandine. You need them to help
you in your battles. Here is where you summon them...if you have the Mana.

The Summon screen goes something like this:

You press Triangle button on the monsters to view their statistics. Once you
confirmed that you want to summon a certain monster, some brief white light is
shown on the right after which it appears on the Portal.
  


Take note that moving troops from one castle to another takes 1 month, and 
letting Knights go on quests takes even longer before they return. So you
won't be able to use them in your battles during that amount of time.



When you enter into the Attack Phase and Circle button on any occupied castle
under your control, you get YET another list of those familiar rectangular
icons. This time, it's much shorter though:

-Status
-ATTACK!
-Wait(duh)


---Status---

You check the status of your troops with this. But isn't it too late to check
it when you have already entered the Attack Phase?

---ATTACK!---

Select troops, press Circle button, move cursor to enemy's castle you want to
attack, press Circle button again, simple isn't it? Go kick some butt! If you
don't, they will come after you soon enough.

---Wait---

In case you accidentally selected the wrong troop to attack an enemy's castle,
use this to revert their status to wait at the castle and eat and drink and
enjoy watching their comrades fighting and bleeding on the far-off
battlefield.

***The Organize Menu***


Okay, before you go screaming at me, I have a reason why I put the Organize
Menu as a sub-section. It's quite huge and I don't want to confuse you all by
squeezing it under the World Map Menu sub-section. Alright, the Organize
screen has the follwing rectangular icon selections at the upper right side:


-Shift
-Class Change
-Equipment
-Item
-Name
-Delete


---Shift---

You do whatever you want with the Knights and Monsters in here. If you press
the Right button, the screen moves to the right(yeah) and you can see the
monsters that are still currently in stock...well they specify it using the
exact english word 'Stock' so you can't blame me for the weird description.
Why do I think about poultry whenever I look at the Stock word in Brigandine?

Ah...so anyway you can select and move the monsters in the Stock section and
put them in the Knight's row so you can use them in battles.


---Class Change---

If this is your first time playing Brigandine, be it LoF or GE, remember that
like Knights, monsters have classes as well. Once they gained experience
points in battles and reached the required levels(usually in terms of Level
10 or 20), check their status under this screen or the Status screen.

If you see a bright golden shiny exclamation marked word "UP!", that means you
can "upgrade" that unit into a better and stronger unit with more special
abilities!

Select the unit and you will see the various classes available for you, if 
common sense doesn't tell you, you can check the status of the various classes
by Triangle button them, well, choose the one with more stars as compared
to the current stars your Knight/monster has(obviously). Take note that some
units have double classes to choose from at that particular Level.
E.g: When you reached Level 10 for a Dragon, you can choose to upgrade it to
a Fire Drake, or a White Dragon. So make your choices carefully. There is no
undo button. Okay, there is a reset button though.


---Equipment---

Equip equipment on your Knights and monsters. In GE, you can obtain extra
special equipment not just from Quests. Some enemy monster units and even
Knights drop equipment items when you "kill" them.


---Item---

Use items on Knights and Monsters.


---Name---

Change names of monsters(only). The name-change screen looks like this:

To backspace and delete a character in the name box, press X button.
By default, the list of characters are Katakana characters.

To the right,

If you choose the Kana option, the characters list on the left change to
Hiragana characters instead. If you select it again, you get the Katakana
list back.

If you choose the English option, the list on the left change to English
alphabets.

Space...is well, add an empty space in the name.

Choosing End will bring you back to the Organize screen without changing
anything.

Choosing Decide will make permanent any changes you have made.



---Delete---

Release any unwanted monsters here. You won't get them back once they are
gone.

Ah, so you finally attacked/are being attacked. It is easy to get used to the
controls of moving your units and positioning them so I won't go into that.

Pointing to a unit and pressing the Triangle button brings you to its detailed
statistics page. Pointing to an empty patch(grass/land/river etc) and pressing
the Triangle button shows you the overall status of you and your enemy's
troops in this current castle battle:

Let the AI do the work for you. I highly suggest that you avoid this
option unless you are lazy, or if you are that confident in your troops.
Take note that if you do not monitor the Auto mode progress, you may run a
risk of situations like, for example: you set to Auto, put down your
controller, exit your room, go to the restroom, wash your hands, take a drink,
grab a bite, and when you come back and look at the screen, you started
wondering:


"Huh? Where did my Silver Dragon go to?"

When you check the status of each Knight, you have three sections to view.
First is what I call the detailed statistics page, where the HP, class, MP etc
are all listed.

The second page(press decide button twice) shows the attacks, skills and magic
the Knight has.

The third page(press the decide button thrice) describes the Knight's
background, story and character. Their age is also listed here.


Since listing each and every stat of every Knight here is a waste of your time
and mine. So here is how the detailed statistic page of a unit looks like,

In cases whereby you noticed that a certain stat of a certain Knight is in
green or orange gold color, this means that they are equipped with a certain
item which increases that stat. Go to the Equipment screen to see the
equipment and the exact boost amount.

Also, if a Knight has a special weapon equipped, the name of his/her attack
may follow the name of the weapon. So especially for Knights who joined later,
don't count on the attack names of my list to be absolutely correct, as enemy
countries may equip them with the weapon while they were with them and so on
and so forth. But I think it won't affect anything much anyway.


And now for the complete list of class, attacks, skills and magic for the
various Knights.

All names of attacks, skills, and magic are listed in exact order as they are
in the game. If I cannot figure out the exact english word, or if it cannot
really be translated without sounding weird, I will just put the name in its

If a Knight has more than 1 Attack, take note that the second and third Attack
moves cannot be performed after moving the unit.

The best Level 20 class in my personal opinion, would be the Ninja Master.
Decent HP with high AGI, plus auto react, and able to use two times Thunder
magic(when equipped with a MP increasing item), has a 3 hex attack as well.
The only bad point would be the lower magic resistance.

Same as Knights, if a monster has more than 1 Attack, the 2nd and 3rd Attack
moves cannot be performed after moving the unit.


Demons and Angels are harder to level up, but keep them in your battles and
you will reap the benefits soon. Two Meteor Dooms and 1 Holy Word will kill
almost every enemy besides those with higher HP. I almost always have 2
Satans, 1 Seraph and a Necromancer or Witch in my main troop.

It's understandable that the higher MP a magic requires, the more powerful it
is.

**Meteor Doom is the most powerful spell in the game. You can only get it for
certain units past Level 20. If you want to know whether any of your unit has
it or not, look under their magic list. If you have one that consumes 255MP,
THAT is the Meteor Doom spell.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++(5)THE LAST BATTLE+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I created this section to provide help for anyone who wishes to know about
Bulnoil, his Guardians, the last 2 final battles etc, since it will be hard
to beat them without knowing what are they up to...somewhat.


---The Bulnoil Battle---

Once you have conquered the entire continent, you get different cutscenes
based on which country you are using, obviously.

Whatever happens(see it for yourself), Halley will appear injured and
have a rather long conversation with your country's ruler, telling him/her
the Snake of Chaos: Auro Volos was sealed a long time ago by the gods using
mana. And Bulnoil, in his attempt to revive the snake, acted behind the scene
to start this continent war. This is because with the war, much more monsters
will be summoned, and that will deplete mana rapidly, thus the effect of the
seal is greatly lessened and gradually be broken.


So anyway, it will be revealed that Bulnoil's castle can be found on an
island somewhere near the West Almekia, well it's named the Draw Rasgardo
castle....or so I think. =) Correct me if I am wrong.

Well Halley said that there is still hope and request the ruler to put a stop
to Bulnoil's plans. No matter what, there's no avoiding the coming battles,
so let's just see it to the end.

The screen changes to the World Map once again in the Organize phase, the
exact location of Bulnoil is presented to you, a message below says that you
have 3 months to defeat Bulnoil, else it's game over. Also, you can no longer
send Knights on quests.

Take note that once you passed the first turn, you can no longer save until
after the Bulnoil battle ends.

So arrange and move your units as you wish and move the Troops that you want
to use to fight that pesky moronic irritating Bulnoil to either of the castles
that have routes connected to Draw Rasgardo. 

Once you are ready, you can attack that castle and you will enter into the
battlefield whereby the land is completely barren. 


Bulnoil has no monsters under him(be thankful). His 2 Guardians each has 3
monsters under their command.

The Right Guardian is more dangerous (in my opinion) as she can attack(by
shooting) an enemy unit 4 hexes away even after moving.


With careful planning and full understanding, it is possible to get rid of
Bulnoil with no losses.


1)Bulnoil is in Barrier status, so nothing will hurt him. To get rid of that
status, you need to keep attacking him until his barrier turns from the
original purple colored globe to a red color globe, and finally until you can
inflict damage on him.

2)The Lucifer AND Lilith are equipped with what is called "Lapis Ecshiris",
basically, it revives them after KO. So it means that you have to kill them
twice to get rid of them for good.

My suggestion is to advance cautiously. Enemy units will wait until you are
around 4 or even 5 hexes away from them before they start attacking. But once
you make a single attack on any of their unit, even if you are very far away,
they will start to advance towards you. Unless the AI is very desperate, or
else they will seldom use Meteor Doom when they can only hit 2 to 3 of your
units. For your information though, there was once whereby the Lucifer just
used Meteor Doom when it hits only 3 of my units, it's partly luck I guess.

Anyway, if you go straight up 3 or 4 hexes away from them, you will run the
risk of 3 consecutive Meteor Doom spells falling on your Troops(by Bulnoil,
the Lucifer and the Lilith), all the more so if your Knights are below Level
30. Since same Level Knights/Leaders get their act randomly. 

An example, if I'm using Vaynard, Brangien and Guinglain, and they are all at
Level 30. For the first turn, Vaynard may get to move first, then maybe say,
the Level 30 Left Guardian. But for the next turn, the Left Guardian may get
to move first before Vaynard, because they are both at Level 30, and it's
randomly selected which Troop gets the move first.

BUT! Take note that for Bulnoil, he will always the first one to get his move.

So my main advice for the battle, is to kill off the Guardians first. When you
have killed the Guardians, the monsters under them will still be there, but
they won't attack you anymore. That way, you can just concentrate on removing
Bulnoil's barrier and killing him.

One more thing about Bulnoil(at least in the Normal Mode) is that once your
units surround him or are scattered around him in all directions in a mess, he
will tend to use Geno-Thunder instead of Meteor Doom. Don't ask me why. 

If your units are not very strong or mostly of the White innate, try to keep
units that can use Area Heal in the middle. Since it's common sense that the
weaker your units are, the more time it takes, and that may mean the increased
amount of times in being hit by devestating spells, and so you NEED that Area
Heal spell.


When you managed to reduce Bulnoil's HP to 0, congrats!...okay not really.
You still have one more battle waiting for you.

---Snake of Chaos, Auro Volos---

You wound up at the Organize phase screen again. The same message shows that
you have only another 3 months to defeat the Snake of Chaos. Replace any lost
units, save your game and go for it!

Ah, the final boss. "Why can't the final boss be the final boss we think is
the final boss?" Yeah I saw that sentence somewhere a long time ago. Well, I
don't know why, but here is the translation of the description of Auro Volos
under its status page.

the "Snake of Chaos". Once, it was sealed in the earth by the gods of Rune
using the power of Mana.
Having neither feelings nor thoughts, its actions are based on mere (purpose

Auro Volos appears alone at the start, but once the 3rd turn comes, its
minions will start to manifest endlessly. If I am not wrong in my estimation,
Auro Volos should have around 1500-2000HP. Its full HP is hidden until you
manage to decrease it below 999. Don't lose hope when it seems neverending,
once its body turns to a red color, it indicates that its hp is getting near
999.


"Enigma" is an attack which shoots out TWO parallel rows of beam reaching as
far as 6 hexes. Take a look at the below diagram.

Okay, it's ugly I know. But that should explain things clearly. Oh I almost
forgot, Engima will also do damage to its minions if they are in the path.

"Chaos Infinity" is an attack which will spread out like your normal Geno
spells, watch out for this, as the status effects can be greatly handicap
your troops.


Alright, now on to the underlings.

Leviathans looked like scorpions. These are pesky creatures because Void Wind
can be used even after they move, something like what your Jinn type monsters
can do. They don't have very high HP, hovering between 350 to 380(I think),
and they have no reprisal attacks as well, so you can use even a pixie to hit
them without worrying.

Doppelgangers looked like Ghouls. They have even lower HP, at most 200, and
have about the same hit rate as a Ghoul as well, so they do miss sometimes.
But the bad thing is if they managed to have a strike, they will turn into
what they hit.

Don't understand? Okay, let me list a simple example, it attacked my Fairy,
and didn't miss, it then changed into a Fairy with the same stats as mine.
Duplication, just as the name says. When it takes the form of your knight,
well...good luck.

Anyway, my advice for this battle, is to aim straight for Auro Volos. Try to
spread out your units to avoid getting hit by Enigma. However, you can use
the line formation as a decoy for it to use Enigma instead of Chaos Infinity.
This is probably the best when you employ all your units to attack it, as it
would hurt your troops more if Chaos Infinity is used when you are surrounding
it. It's up to you.

P/S: It has been noted that the type and number of underlings that appear each
turn are random.


This snake CANNOT, I repeat, CANNOT retaliate any attacks, so you can just
hack away at it with any unit without worry for counterattacks, because it
doesn't have one.

Once you defeat this monster, all of its underlings will perish as well. And
that marks the end of the game. Well it has been a long journey, enjoy the
ending.

Oh, one more thing, at the very end, you can say yes to a system save, that
way, you can view more stuff(the last few scenes) at the Recollection section.
If your memory card is full:

I don't want to see you end up with that kind of sad fate(sounds familiar
right? ^.^), so make sure you either have a free slot, or if you didn't
delete the system data that comes along with the save data(meaning, a save
will take up 4 slots, 3 slots for game data, 1 slot for system data), saying
yes will overwite that system data. So no problems.

              |the elder will comment on Limlight's maturity and send Pereiner
              |along as well. But well, she's only a Level 1 Scout...

Knights like Cortina and Vanessa who were recruited by enemy countries via
quests before you managed to, may or may not join you after you eliminate the
countries they are working for(Thanks to Kensyu for correcting me). So even if
you spotted them in an enemy's caste, don't get your hopes too high but don't
think you have no chance of getting them as well.

It depends mainly on which country you are using I believe.

+++++++++++++++++(7)Miscellaneous[and other bits and pieces]++++++++++++++++++


This section is just as the title says: all the information which do not fall
under the other sections.


1)The *cheap* escaping trick

-I have used this trick a couple of times while I was playing LoF, and ONCE in
GE. So what is it exactly? Alright, every battle will only last for 13 turns.
Once 13 turns are over, the knights decided that they are weary and so had a
mutual agreement to end the current battle and leave it till the next time...
alright not exactly.

In my countless LoF replays, the rule is: once 13 turns are up, whoever are
the attacking troops will retreat, so it means that if you got attacked, can't
win, but is able to defend for 13 turns, you get to keep the castle.

However, in GE, this form of system is improved. If you decided to escape till
the turns are up, the enemy troops will no longer chase after you, when 13
turns are up, whoever is the one who stands on the hex where the castle is
located will be the winning side.


2)Mana Loss

-If your mana upkeep is higher than your mana income, resulting in a mana loss
each month, and if you keep up this loss, the bad side effect is: all your
monsters start to have their HP lowered. The more powerful the monster, the
higher the upkeep. The greater the deficit, the greater the reduction in the
monsters' HP. The Knights won't be affected though, which makes sense.

This also explains why enemy countries with only 1 or 2 castles left have
monsters with reduced HP.


3)Dryst's Meteor Doom

-If you haven't already known, when Dryst reaches Level 30, he says it's time
to become more serious, and so he became the Mad Monarch Z (^.^). Along with
this class change, there are a few changes. And one of them is the addition
of the Meteor Doom spell. BUT! I believe in most plays, his MP is NOT enough
to use the spell, unless you got lucky in MP upping with increased levels.
I'm not sure whether does the INT stat affect the MP points gained, because it
could mean equipping units with stuff that increase INT so with each level
gained, their max MP will be higher.

Nevertheless, if your Dryst is still lacking in MP at Level 30, just equip the
Sorcery Pierce or Kenja no Medal(Sage's medal) or use one or two of your 
precious Potions of Magic that you may get from quests and Dryst should be
ready for more ass kicking.


4)The King of West Almekia

-After you have defeated Esgares and have captured the castle Logres, the
crowning event will take place, and Lance will become King. With that, he will
be able to use Geno-Thunder. This is very useful.


5) Portraits and images

-The fellowing Knights got their image portraits redrawn in GE for no apparant
reason:

Galonwand

-And many classes have their super-deformed images redrawn as well, the more
significant ones would be Dinadan, Halley and Iria.


6)Hit Percentage/Hit Rate

-We all hate to miss, and the game creators understand that. So if you
select the unit you wish to use, then choose attack, after which you point to
the unit you want to assault and press confirm once, look at the two big boxes
that fill the screen, the upper box shows the stats of your unit, and the
lower box shows the stats of the enemy unit you have picked to attack. In the
lower right corner, there is a percentage figure. That is the hit percentage.
If it is at 100%, it means you won't miss for sure. 

It would be beneficial to NOT attack if the percentage is very low, since you
will be at a high risk of missing. If you decide that you don't want to
attack, just press the cancel button. Don't double-confirm, and you can get
a chance to undo your selection.

Of course I have seen enemy units with hit percentage at 25% still managing to
get a strike, so it all depends on your choice and luck.


7)Special items

-There are items you can get by going on quests which can further change the
classes of some of your most powerful monster units. Some of them are:

Forbidden Fruit: Changes Seraph to Lucifer
Sweet Wine of Seduction: Changes Satan to Lilith
Bolt of Wrath: Changes Titan to Thor
Seed of Wisdom: Changes Gigantes to Loki
Crown of Gold: Changes Lizard Guard to Lizard King

Missing Link: This is a gem, because it can change the class of your monster
even when your levels are not enough. It practically means that if for
example, say, you have 2 Missing Links, you can use them straight away on a
demon and get a Satan. I was wondering how did the enemy managed to get a
Level 1 Arch Angel. After I got this item, yay, the answer is known. However,
remember that stats like HP, MP etc will not increase. So in the earlier
situation, it means that the Satan will still have Level 1 stats.


To get these items depends on luck, as I have set at least 8 Knights to go on
quests for nearly one year before I obtained one of these special items.

Just keep going on quests. If the background screen is something like a
faraway forest island, there is around 1/4 chance of that particular quest
happening. Okay, so what is that particular quest I'm talking about?

If the background image is as I mentioned above, there are 4 types of quests
that may happen,

1)Dancing with fairies -increases AGI
2)Talking to an old man who has assimilated with a tree -increases Rune Power
3)Spending a night on an island -increases MP
4)Worshipping the statue of a forgotten god - gives you a special item


Pressing the circle or x button for each quest message pop-ups for 10 Knights
for every month may be rather boring, so if you have not already discovered
it, pressing the SQUARE button skips dialogue and messages boxes much more
rapidly.

I still have the save data with me and before I delete it(I delete saves after
every complete play due to lack of space and memory cards), I had better make
full use of it.

Ninja Master he mentioned is in LoF, in GE that class is named as Shadow

Another thing to note is that if a rival country gets an optional rune knight
they don't always join if you defeat that country.

you can also get pereiner (not sure if that's her name) the female elf by
questing Hyude and Limlight together. I forgot if there was an event before
this to indicate when though.
 
Ninja classes in GE need to go through the ranger class and has to have 5
stars ninja master for anyone to become a ninja master.

On Aldis lessening dragon usage, seeing her quest and then reduce castle to 2
and she will eventually join after 2 or so turns. But it's hard to gauge if
you exceeded the dragon usage # though. And I'm not sure if lizard men and
wyverns count.

~~Playing as West Almekia: your typical ideal storyline~~

Don't depend on Halley too much when she joins you as she won't stay for long.
Instead, try to concentrate on leveling up Lance, he has the highest stats
among all rulers at level 30. Green innate knights and monsters have lower
magic resistance, so is the same for Lance, but his high HP will make up
for that weakness. You can break the alliance with Caerleon if you want to
(I did, as well as when I was playing as Caerleon ^^), but of course do it
only when your troops are much stronger. 

Overall, it's a rather easy one with Almekia, all the more so if you maintain
the alliance.


~~Playing as Norgard: the king who talks a lot~~

For Brigandine LoF and GE, I have played as Norgard the most, probably at
least 10 times. But, anyway...

Norgard may not have knights at level 20 or above, but it won't take long to
get a few to level 20, and the lower level knights are the strongest as
compared to other countries', e.g: Noie, a level 1 Cleric has much better
stats than a Cleric from another country.

The combination of Guinglain, Yvain and Palomides are the only group which
I have never bothered to use at all(meaning all monster units are at level 1
besides the Silver Dragon Guinglain comes with) but the castle they are
guarding never got attacked. Even Dinadan+Beauarte+Shast is greatly aimed at.
Well, at least for normal mode.

Brangien is the Archer(later turned Artemis) with the best overall stats in
the game, and it really shows. You can use Noie for the whole of the game,
so don't worry about leveling her up and lose her halfway through because of
her illness. She is good no matter which class path you level her up as.


~~Playing as Caerleon: a twisted plot~~

You start off only needing to guard ONE castle, so you can take your time to
regroup, earn mana, buy monsters and blah blah blah. Make use of the higher
Rune Power the knights of Caerleon have. You have the fewest knights to start
with, so quickly destroy a neighbouring country to gain some knights, of
course not to mention quests.

Later on, everything becomes a piece of cake. But take note that along with
the storyline, Merriot will be unavailable for QUITE some amount of time until
you expand your territory wider. But with Cai and Dinadan, things are easy.


~~Playing as Iscalio: Sometimes, a mad man is wiser than a Wise King~~

Stick 2 Demons and 1 Pixie to Dryst, group Dryst with Camden and Victoria,
level them all up, and the next thing you know, you have 6 Meteor Dooms all
falling on your enemies. Great.


~~Playing as Leonia: a priest who wears a earring...~~

Madness. Leonia is PLAIN weak. It will probably take you the longest time to
complete the game using Leonia, and sadly, Lyonesse is very weak even at Level
30. She doesn't have many good spells, though she will be a handy healer.
Using Kiloph may cause you to throw your controller and smash your TV with a
hammer because he misses so badly in battle it hurts to see his face. Only
a great amount of patience will get him to Level 10, thereafer he gets MUCH
MUCH better. 

Equip lotsa patience, bear and tolerate and you shall reap the rewards of
seeing how the holy queen isn't really *that* holy after all. ^^

Well, jokes aside, the Phoenix and Holy Griffin gets very strong and evade
attacks easily as they gain more levels, at least you won't lose the game if
you will just try.


~~Playing as Esgares: sadly, sadly, sadly...~~

Things to take note when playing as Esgares is that while you start off with
the most amount of Knights - 18, that amount won't increase. In other words,
Knights of eliminated countries(besides Iscalio) WILl NOT join you unlike in
the case of playing as other countries. E.g: Usually when you defeat Almekia,
Knights like Carlota will join you. But as Esgares, sadly...nope.

That also pretty much means that the rest of the countries will gain more
Knights.

Worse, somewhere during the course of the game, you will lose 3 of your 18
Knights - Cador, Enide and Meltorefas. Play the game for yourself to know
why, since I don't wanna spoil it for you, it's a sweet-bitter event I would
say(hey, have you ever wondered where did the 2 guardians of Bulnoil come
from?...oops haha), but anyway make sure you don't waste too much of your time
letting them gain experience points. And that includes Soleil as well...

After the Cador event, wait for a few months and Esmeree will free the one
and only Champion from the underground prison. He's Shred and will choose to
fight alongside Zemeckis, but Esmeree will say that she has one more prisoner
to free, and that's Soleil's mother. With that, you gain Shred, Level 20
Champion with very LOW rune power but you will lose Soleil, low level bishop
but with extremely high rune power...sadly.

But hey cheer up, with 3 of the feared demon generals of Almekia(Escalados,
Gish and Shred) on your side, no way you will lose.

The rest of Knights that you have are also very strong, though you won't
get to send them on quests too much as the entire Esgares gameplay is pretty
intense and tight.

A:Everyone makes mistakes, this is my first attempt translating stuff in an
import game, so please forgive me for them and kindly email me to inform me so

This is provided that you have played GE and really spotted a mistake. This is
because many of the names in GE and LoF are different, e.g: Iria's class is
not listed as 'Valkyrie' like Halley, but 'Killer Doll' instead. And don't
pick on my kanji translation, the world of vocabulary is big, 'big' can be
translated as 'huge'or 'enormous' and so on. You get the idea. 


Q:Hey I can help you with some of the moves/magic/skills's english names which
you haven't figured out.
A:I welcome all suggestions and help with regards to this. Currently all work

A:Sorry, but I don't have them. I do not have a gameshark nor anything for
cheatcodes, so you can say that I do not use them, and so won't have them.
Please search elsewhere.


Q:Where can I get a copy of this game?
A:Obviously this game is long out of print, it is very rare these days. Your
best bet is to search around to see if the friend of the son of the sister of
the mother of your friend has it and try to borrow from him...alright, bad
joke.

Internet's the only more possible way besides scouting from fellow gamers'
stash. There is no way around this, as it is not easy to locate old games in
gamestores nowadays, not to mention old imports.

Be prepared though, even if you managed to locate a copy online, because it's
most likely a used one.
