"Good, but not even close to the PC version"
C&C (not the music factory) is a great real time strategy game, but unfortunately the PSX version doesn't really do it justice. Do yourself a favor and get this game (or its sequels) for the PC.
Fun Factor: 9
Almost as fun as the original PC version, although it is hampered by the obvious faults that the port to the PSX gave it. Still, taking over enemy bunkers with your engineers is just as fun on either platform. Lack of serious multiplayer also hampers the overall fun of the game.
Easy to learn, easy to master. Once you know what units work against what, you're pretty much set for the rest of the game. Don't let that fool you though, the AI can be pretty tough at times (mostly during the later levels).
Compared to the control found in the PC version, the PSX controller just cannot do this game justice. I would like to think that real life troops are just a bit more responsive than the digital ones found in this version of the game.
Pretty good story, no major changes from the PC version. Basic "mad army of psychotic terrorists try to take over Europe and the world" story. I really liked the guy who plays Kain especially... He just exudes evil.
Nothing much here. Probably will be muted after about ten minutes or so, due to the repetitive nature of the soundtrack. The original PC version had much more varied (and higher quality) tracks, IMHO.
Sound FX: 7
The sound of rockets tearing into enemy lines just isn't as satisfying on the PSX...
This one really depends on how well you remember individual maps. There are some places where you can take alternate routes (different combat maps) but even then the missions are basically the same.
Rent or Buy: Possible buy, but most likely a rental. I would recommend buying the PC version, though. (can you say expansion pack?) :-)
